Book Synopsis Model of the Response Function of CUORE Bolometers by : Marco Vignati
Download or read book Model of the Response Function of CUORE Bolometers written by Marco Vignati and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-29 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large mass bolometers are used in particle physics experiments to search for rare processes, like neutrinoless double beta decay and dark matter interactions. In the next years the CUORE experiment (a 1 Ton detector composed by 1000 crystals of TeO2 operated as bolometers in a large cryostat at 10mK) will be the particle physics experiment with the highest chance of discovering the Majorana neutrino, a long standing and yet fundamental question of particle physics. The study presented in this book was performed on the bolometers of the CUORE experiment. The response function of these detectors is not linear in the energy range of interest, and it changes with the operating temperature, worsening the performances. The nonlinearity appeared to be dominated by the thermistor and the biasing circuit used to read the bolometer, and was modeled using few measurable parameters. A method to obtain a linear response is the result of this work. It allows a great improvement of the detector operation and data analysis. With a foreword by Fernando Ferroni.
Book Synopsis Follow Your Heart by : Susanna Tamaro
Download or read book Follow Your Heart written by Susanna Tamaro and published by Delta. This book was released on 1996-08-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An international bestseller with tremendous word-of-mouth appeal, Follow Your Heart is a bittersweet, heartwarming novel spanning generations and teaching the universal truths about life, love, and what lies within each of us. Originally published in Italy, Follow Your Heart won the coveted Premio Donna Citta di Roma and sold over 800,000 copies in that country alone before hitting bestseller lists throughout the rest of Europe. Now North American readers can enjoy the novel that has won over the world. It begins in late autumn 1992 as an elderly Italian woman, prompted by the knowledge of her encroaching death, sits down to write a letter to her granddaughter now grown and living in far-off America. Through these moving reflections, we see one life laid bare--joys, sorrows, regrets, and all. And through the eyes of a woman nearing the end of her days, we come to understand what life experience has taught her: that no matter what the stakes, we must look within ourselves and gather the courage to follow our hearts.

Book Synopsis Idiomatic Constructions in Italian by : Simonetta Vietri
Download or read book Idiomatic Constructions in Italian written by Simonetta Vietri and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-11-15 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is devoted to the analysis of Italian idioms with either ordinary or support verbs (also called light verbs). The research focuses on the exhaustive description of idioms, and is based on their systematic classification according to the principles of the Lexicon-Grammar methodology developed by Maurice Gross (1975, 1979 and further). A thorough examination of the literature shows strong disagreement on the acceptability of some idiomatic constructions. For this reason, the Web was used as a corpus to verify judgments on the supposed ungrammatical constructions. This approach showed that idiomatic constructions which have always been considered ungrammatical are instead perfectly acceptable if contextualized. The results obtained include the following: passive is not a "special case" when it concerns idioms, and idiomatic constructions show the same complexity as non-idiomatic constructions.

Book Synopsis Event Classification in Liquid Scintillator Using PMT Hit Patterns by : Jack Dunger
Download or read book Event Classification in Liquid Scintillator Using PMT Hit Patterns written by Jack Dunger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for neutrinoless double beta decay is one of the highest priority areas in particle physics today; it could provide insights to the nature of neutrino masses (currently not explained by the Standard Model) as well as how the universe survived its early stages. One promising experimental approach involves the use of large volumes of isotope-loaded liquid scintillator, but new techniques for background identification and suppression must be developed in order to reach the required sensitivity levels and clearly distinguish the signal. The results from this thesis constitute a significant advance in this area, laying the groundwork for several highly effective and novel approaches based on a detailed evaluation of state-of-the-art detector characteristics. This well written thesis includes a particularly clear and comprehensive description of the theoretical motivations as well as impressively demonstrating the effective use of diverse statistical techniques. The professionally constructed signal extraction framework contains clever algorithmic solutions to efficient error propagation in multi-dimensional space. In general, the techniques developed in this work will have a notable impact on the field.

Così, nei racconti di Kate Chopin, ambientati in questi luoghi, si consumano amori felici e infelici, soprusi e storie di riscatto personale.
Book Synopsis Italian Literature: Il tristano panciatichiano by : Gloria Allaire
Download or read book Italian Literature: Il tristano panciatichiano written by Gloria Allaire and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2002 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first critical edition with English translation of the prose compilation Tristano panciatichiano, preserved in a unique manuscript in the Biblioteca Nazionale of Florence (MS Panc. 33); it is the first time the Italian text has been published in its entirety in any form. Assembled by the mid-fourteenth century, the manuscript is an original compilation in Italian based on several French models: the Queste del San Graal, Joseph d'Arimathie, the Mort Artu, and notably, the Roman de Tristan en prose. While the edition itself will be of great interest, the translation into English is a major opportunity for Arthurians and other medievalists, and furnishes important new evidence for the study of Arthurian material in Italy. Apparatus includes a finding list of Arthurian manuscripts produced, owned or read by Italians; a select bibliography; and an index of proper names found in the narrative.
