This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the still very valuable Biblioteca histórica de la filología by Cipriano Muñoz y Manzano, conde de la Viñaza (Madrid, 1893), our knowledge of the history of the study of the Spanish language has grown considerably, and most manuscript and secondary sources had never been tapped before Hans-Josef Niederehe of the University of Trier courageously undertook the task to bring together any available bibliographical information together with much more recent research findings, scattered in libraries, journals and other places. The resulting Bibliografía cronológica de la lingüística, la gramática y la lexicografía del español: Desde los principios hasta el año 1600 (BICRES) began appearing in 1994. BICRES I covered the period from the early beginnings to 1600), followed by BICRES II (1601–1700), BICRES III (1701–1800), and together with Miguel Ángel Esparza Torres of Madrid there followed BICRES IV (1801 to 1860). Now, the fifth volume, has become available, covering the years from 1861 to 1899. Access to the bibliographical information of altogether 5,272 titles is facilitated by several detailed indexes, such as a short title index, a listing of printers, publishers and places of production, and an author index. More than twenty years of research in the major libraries of Spain and other European countries have gone into this unique work — relative sources of the Americas have also been covered — making it exhaustive source for any serious scholar of any possible aspect of the Spanish language.

Book Synopsis Explorando las relaciones intradiscursivas by : Catalina Fuentes Rodríguez
Download or read book Explorando las relaciones intradiscursivas written by Catalina Fuentes Rodríguez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-29 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explorando las relaciones intradiscursivas: Un enfoque multidimensional takes a multifaceted approach to provide a complete and integrative analysis of intra-discursive relationships. This edited collection approaches intra-discursive relationships from different discursive dimensions (such as informative, argumentative, or modal) which influence the construction of the text to identify common and functional relationships to any type of discourse. Covering a wide range of topics from multiple perspectives, the volume arrives at a global, multidimensional, and integrated vision that allows the study of relationships to be defined without apriorism or exclusions.Drawing on real texts from various corpora of Spanish, the contributions explore the connections between the basic units of the text in order to construct a linguistic model that goes beyond the sentence level. This research offers both general and focused studies on specific phenomena of great interest within a well-constructed and comprehensive framework. This innovative volume is ideal for researchers and teachers of discourse analysis, linguistics, and Spanish as a foreign language. Additionally, Explorando las relaciones intradiscursivas complements undergraduate and graduate studies in pragmatics and linguistics.

Book excerpt: Alexandra Cornilescu is an internationally renowned linguist, whose pioneering ideas have been influential in developing generative grammar in Romania, Europe and beyond. The weightiness of her contributions to the field is matched only by her talent for disseminating them. Ever since 1970, when she started teaching at the University of Bucharest, she has continuously played a tireless and inspirational role in the creation of several generations of linguists, which the academic world has come to admiringly refer to as The Bucharest School. As the initiator of the AICED conference, held annually in the English Department at the University of Bucharest, she has turned it into one of the leading platforms of generative linguistics in Europe. She has published extensively on Romanian and English linguistics and is also the founder and past editor of the journal Bucharest Working Papers in Linguistics. On the occasion of her 75th birthday, her friends, students and colleagues celebrate Alexandra Cornilescu’s work with this collection of essays on various topics of current theoretical interest.
Book Synopsis Spanish Word Formation and Lexical Creation by : José Luis Cifuentes Honrubia
Download or read book Spanish Word Formation and Lexical Creation written by José Luis Cifuentes Honrubia and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contributes a wider approach to word formation processes and sheds light on some unsolved issues. While the formal relationships established between the different constituents of a complex word have been analyzed in great depth, the semantic links have received little dedication. In order to complete the analysis, it is necessary to pay attention to the semantic properties associated to verbalization. The main purpose of the book is to integrate both the semantic proposals and the formal perspectives concerning word formation. This theoretical aim becomes the framework to study several mechanisms of lexical creation and neologisms. Furthermore, word formation is presented as a new source for Applied Linguistics. Although the volume uses Spanish as a starting point, it means to delimit formation patterns which may also be productive in other languages. This book is sure to become an important reference in the controversial field of word formation.
Book Synopsis Applicative Morphology by : Sara Pacchiarotti
Download or read book Applicative Morphology written by Sara Pacchiarotti and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-10-03 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about recurrent functions of applicative morphology not included in typologically-oriented definitions. Based on substantial cross-linguistic evidence, it challenges received wisdom on applicatives in several ways. First, in many of the surveyed languages, applicatives are the sole means to introduce a non-Actor semantic role into a clause. When there is an alternative way of expression, the applicative counterpart often has no valence-increasing effect on the targeted root. Second, applicative morphology can introduce constituents which are not syntactic objects and/or co-occur with obliques. Third, functions such as conveying aspectual nuances to the predicate (intensity, repetition, habituality) or its arguments (partitive P, highly individuated P), narrow-focusing constituents, and functioning as category-changing devices are attested in geographically distant and genetically unrelated languages. Further, this volume reveals that spatial-related morphology is prone to developing applicative functions in disparate languages and phyla. Finally, several contributions discuss the diachrony of applicative constructions and their (non-syntactic) attested functions, including a case of applicatives-in-the-making.
