Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the second time the International Workshop on Responsive Com puter Systems has brought together a group of international experts from the fields of real-time computing, distributed computing, and fault tolerant systems. The two day workshop met at the splendid facilities at the KDD Research and Development Laboratories at Kamifukuoka, Saitama, in Japan on October 1 and 2, 1992. The program included a keynote address, a panel discussion and, in addition to the opening and closing session, six sessions of submitted presentations. The keynote address "The Concepts and Technologies of Depend able and Real-time Computer Systems for Shinkansen Train Control" covered the architecture of the computer control system behind a very responsive, i. e. , timely and reliable, transport system-the Shinkansen Train. It has been fascinating to listen to the operational experience with a large fault-tolerant computer application. "What are the Key Paradigms in the Integration of Timeliness and Reliability?" was the topic of the lively panel discussion. Once again the pro's and con's of the time-triggered versus the event-triggered paradigm in the design of a real-time systems were discussed. The eighteen submitted presentations covered diverse topics about important issues in the design of responsive systems and a session on progress reports about leading edge research projects. Lively discussions characterized both days of the meeting. This volume contains the revised presentations that incorporate some of the discussions that occurred during the meeting.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Software Engineering by : Ronald J. Leach
Download or read book Introduction to Software Engineering written by Ronald J. Leach and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-11-24 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software engineering lies at the heart of the computer revolution. Software is used in automobiles, airplanes, and many home appliances. As the boundaries between the telecommunications, entertainment, and computer industries continue to blur in multimedia and networking, the need for software will only increase, and software will become increasingly complex. Introduction to Software Engineering gives your students the fundamentals of this growing and rapidly changing field. The book highlights the goals of software engineering, namely to write programs that have all the following attributes: efficient, reliable, usable, modifiable, portable, testable, reusable, maintainable, compatible and correct. The nine chapters cover topics that include project management, defining requirements, software design, coding, testing and integration, delivery and installation, documentation, maintenance, and research issues. The author uses a hybrid approach, combining object-oriented technology and classical programming techniques to solve computing problems. He also places a strong emphasis on Internet technology and resources. A simple, but non-trivial, running example illustrates all stages of the software engineering process. In addition, where applicable, he covers the impact of Internet technology. Introduction to Software Engineering presents the basics of software engineering in a concise and direct format. With emphasis on Internet technology, software tools for programming, and hands-on learning, this book effectively prepares students to move from an educational situation towards applying their knowledge to the complex projects faced in the professional arena. Book Synopsis Optional Choice of Court Agreements in Private International Law by : Mary Keyes
Download or read book Optional Choice of Court Agreements in Private International Law written by Mary Keyes and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the importance of optional choice of court agreements, and the need for future research and legal development in this area. The law relating to choice of court agreements has developed significantly in recent years, reflecting their increased use in practice. However, most recent legal developments concern exclusive choice of court agreements. In comparison, optional choice of court agreements, also called permissive forum selection clauses and non-exclusive jurisdiction clauses, have attracted little attention from lawmakers or commentators. This collection is comprised of 19 National Reports, providing a critical analysis of the legal treatment of optional choice of court agreements, including asymmetric choice of court agreements, under national laws as well as under multilateral instruments. It also includes a General Report offering an overview of this area of the law and a synthesis of the findings of the national reporters. The contributions to this collection show that the legal treatment of optional choice of courts differs between legal systems. In some countries, the law on the effect of optional choice of court agreements is at an early stage in its development, whereas in others the law is relatively advanced. Irrespective of this, the national reporters identify unresolved issues with the effect of optional choice of court agreements, where the law is unclear or the cases are conflicting, demonstrating that this topic warrants greater attention. This book is of interest to judges, legislators, lawyers, academics and students who are concerned with private international law and international civil procedure.
Book Synopsis Biological Diversity and Genetic Resources by : Biological Diversity & Genetic Resources Project
Download or read book Biological Diversity and Genetic Resources written by Biological Diversity & Genetic Resources Project and published by Commonwealth Secretariat. This book was released on 1992 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of genetic resources have been priority issues for a number of countries and international organisations over the past decade. We have begun to realise that the rapid rate of development at all costs has generated forces that are threatening to destroy the very substratum of life on Earth.Biological diversity is the building block of the myriad life forms on our planet and our defence against global climate changes. Wider acceptance of this truth has given an impetus to the need for further work at political and scientific levels. However, little information is available on how to study, use and conserve our biological and genetic resources. The Commonwealth Science Council's programme on biological diversity and genetic resources attempts to redress this imbalance. Launched in 1986, this programme recognises that good policies for conservation of our genetic resources require not only public investment by a systematic approach for institutionalising the key process of such conservation. The programme supports the development of appropriate courses, documents and training materials for capacity building at the local level. This book discusses the programme and aims to contribute significantly towards establishing relevant mechanisms and developing practical action plans for conserving and sustainably using our rapidly vanishing biological diversity.
