Why the sudden change? And what do we mean by being 'spiritual'? John Drane presents a whirlwind tour of the phenomenon of cultural change as it is being experienced in the West, identifying the challenges and opportunities this presents to the Christian church. He examines the question of whether human beings are intrinsically programmed to be 'spiritual,' offers theological reflection on the 'New Age' phenomenon, and focuses on how the Christian community can connect with spiritual seekers in today's world.

Book Synopsis Above Common Christianity by : Pilgrim Preacher
Download or read book Above Common Christianity written by Pilgrim Preacher and published by Pilgrim Preacher. This book was released on 2023-06-18 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are six stages of spiritual growth, the Creator wants every Christian believer to experience. If you are desirous of being the best you can be, then this book is for you. Are you keen on living the best Christian experience? This book signposts each stage of progression from the conversion experience to the ultimate stage of parenthood (and grand parenthood). The eldership in your assembly wants you to grow in grace and knowledge, and to become a spiritual leader in your own right. This book is a must-read if you want to live above the rate of common Christianity. The purpose of this book is to give you some ideas and principles to instill into your life so that you might live your Christian life above the rate of common Christianity. This book is divided into six parts: One: Sinner. Two: Sainthood. Three: Surrender. Four: Servanthood. Five: Soul winner. Six: Spiritual parenthood. You'll notice that these all start with the letter S, so it's easy for you to remember. Everyone born into this world is supposed to progress along this six-step pathway. This is the way of God. This is the way to God. This is the way to paradise. If you have not begun this journey, then begin today. If you are stagnating in sainthood, then move on to servanthood. If you are a soul-winner, then move on to spiritual parenthood. Make sure you are progressing to gain the rewards in life. Make sure you are moving through these six stages to live above common Christianity. The title of this book comes from David Brainerd’s personal diary. David Brainerd was a Presbyterian missionary to the native American Indians along the Delaware, New Jersey. He was born in the year, seventeen eighteen, and died in the year, seventeen forty-seven. During his years of ministry, he suffered many setbacks and hardships, which he recorded in his diary. In his later years, he suffered from Tuberculosis, which eventually he succumbed to. There, as he lay on his deathbed, about to depart, he urged his brother, to live above the rate of common Christianity. David Brainerd had done that himself in his life; he had not succumbed to just going with the flow. He wanted to live to the glory of God. He was a man of intense prayer; a man of intense yearnings after the unchurched, and to see his adopted Delaware Indians trained in the scriptures. David Brainerd had lived that himself and he had a desire that others live above the rate of common Christianity. In the New Testament, we can read about what we are supposed to be doing here, in our Christian lives. The new believer needs these questions tackled: Why are we here? What are we supposed to be doing? Those questions become easier to answer when we know the six stages of living Above Common Christianity. I trust that you might also have that desire: not to be lukewarm, not to compromise but that you would indeed desire to live above the rate of common Christianity. The purpose of this book is to help you to live above the rate of common Christianity. Get this book to be the best you can be.

The Swindoll Study Bible offers the best of Chuck Swindoll's wit, charm, pastoral insight, and wise biblical study directly to you as you study God's Word. Chuck's warm, personal style comes across on every page, and his informed, practical insights get straight to the heart of the Bible's message for the world today. Reading each part of this study Bible is like hearing Chuck speak God's Word directly to your heart. It will both encourage readers' faith and draw them deeper into the study of God's Word. In Chuck's own words: "This study Bible was designed with you in mind. As you read the Scriptures, imagine my sitting beside you and sharing personal stories, important insights, and hard-earned lessons that will encourage you to walk more closely with Jesus Christ. You'll discover the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the Bible: Who wrote it and when? What does it mean, and where did its events occur? Why should I trust it? And most importantly, how can I apply it today? "It's that last question more than any other that has fed my passion to publish this Bible. My primary focus in ministry has been teaching biblical insight for living . . . for genuine life change. After all, that's why God has communicated His Word to us--so that we may become like His Son, Jesus Christ, the central figure of this Book." Free app with purchase! Book Synopsis God Is Not a Vending Machine by : Marvin D. Hinten
Download or read book God Is Not a Vending Machine written by Marvin D. Hinten and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are much better at supporting the idea of prayer than we are at praying. This book combines Scriptural insights on pleasing God in prayer with practical insights on making prayer effective. Making prayer effective, however, doesn’t mean “getting what we want.” Hinten tells how to use prayer to move from a desire for what we want to a desire for what God wants. And, in the “Putting Prayer Into Practice” section at the end of each chapter, he suggests specific techniques and topics to help readers meet their goal of not just reading about prayer, but praying. Best of all, while this book is intellectually stimulating, it is also eminently readable, with clear examples and an engaging sense of humor.

Book Synopsis Other-Centered Leadership by : John R. Strubhar
Download or read book Other-Centered Leadership written by John R. Strubhar and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After fifty years of being a leader in various capacities, author Dr. John R. Strubhar has concluded that the most important aspect of leadership is how the leader engages and serves his/her ministry colleagues and the larger church constituency. In Other-Centered Leadership, he calls all leaders back to the basics of leadership, teaching pastors how to engage with others in a relational capacity that reflects the clear teachings of God’s word. Focusing on putting others first, Strubhar discusses how leadership rises and falls on the ability of the leader to treat ministry colleagues with love, acceptance, and accountability. The ability to respond biblically to a ministry colleague is the prerequisite for a healthy ministry team. Strubhar offers simple principles, gleaned from God’s word and interaction with hundreds of leaders, to stimulate a new generation of pastoral leaders who will treat others better than themselves for the glory of God.
Book Synopsis The Second Commandment by : Joey R. Peyton
Download or read book The Second Commandment written by Joey R. Peyton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-02-07 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an increasingly broken world filled with hate and violence, God’s plan from the beginning was to save and restore the world to the glory for which he had created it. This simple plan has not changed with the evolution of sin, time, or man’s rejection of his creator. Rather, God’s simple twofold plan of redemption included both a commandment to love the creator with all one’s heart, mind, soul, and strength, and a commandment to love one’s neighbor as one’s self. Neither commandment stands in isolation, for one cannot fully love others without a consuming love for God, and neither can one completely love God without a love for the neighbor created by God. The answer to hate is love; the answer to war is love; the answer to violence is love; and the answer to all of societal disfunction is love. The answer is not a commandment to like God and others, because one only likes others because of likeness. Rather, love is a choice. A choice to love what you don’t like. A choice to love what you don’t understand. A choice to love until the God you love sets everything right in eternity.
