Book excerpt: Neutron Cross Sections, Volume 2: Neutron Cross Section Curves presents data for total reaction cross sections and related fission parameters as a function of incident-neutron energy. This book covers energy range from 0.01 eV to 200 MeV to exclude crystalline and magnetic effects for slow neutrons and relativistic effects for high energy neutrons. The data in this volume are grouped into sections corresponding to the element of the target nucleus in the neutron-induced reaction. These sections are ordered in increasing atomic number. Within a section, graphical data are presented for the natural element followed by the isotopes of that element in order of increasing atomic mass. A list of the reaction types is provided at the end of each section. This book also provides graphical section, wherein each graphical page is annotated on the outer edge with a symbol for an element or isotope followed by the list of the cross section data for that element or isotope. The data plotted in the graphical section are tagged by a mnemonic consisting of year, laboratory, and author's last name. This tag can be used to find the corresponding reference on the bibliographic pages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isomeric cross section ratios for several nuclear reactions in the medium mass region were measured. The cross section ratios of isomers produced by the thermal neutron irradiation of Se/sup 60/, Rh/sup 103/, Pd/sup 106/ TE/sup 128/ and Cs/s up 133/ were measured. Isomeric cross section ratios for the formation of the isomeric pair In/sup 110/ and In/sup 110m/, produced in the Ag/ sup 107/ (alpha, n) and the Ag/sup 109/ (alpha,3n) reactions were also measured at several energies of the incoming projectile. He ions were accelerated to a maximum energy of 43 Mev. The relative amounts of the isomers produced in the reactions were determined by scintillation counting. In the case of the In/sup 110/ isomers the efficiencies of the scintillation counter for detecting each isomer were measured, so that absolute cross sections as well as cross section ratios could be determined for these isomers. The isomeric cross section ratios were also calculated theoretically using a statistical model, in which angular momentum effects were included. By comparing experimentally measured cross section ratios for the formation of isomeric pairs to the calculated ratios, information about the dependence of the nuclear level density on angular momentum was obtained. Book Synopsis Alternate Approach to the 239Pu(n,2n) Cross Section by :
Download or read book Alternate Approach to the 239Pu(n,2n) Cross Section written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using existing experimental data for neutron-induced total, elastic, inelastic, reaction and fission cross sections, as well as results from nuclear model calculations and evaluations from nuclear reaction data libraries, we derived an estimate for the cross sections for the 235U(n,2n) and 239Pu(n,2n) reactions for the neutron energy range from threshold to approximately 12 MeV. In effect, our approach is based on subtracting the fission and inelastic cross sections from the total reaction cross section where the difference is expected to yield the (n,2n) cross section. In addition to this subtraction approach, a ratio method and a differential method have also been explored. For 235U(n,2n), as a test case, we arrive at a cross section consistent with previous measurements, and for 239Pu(n,2n) we obtain a peak value of 400 " 60 mb for the incident neutron energy range of 10 (less-than or equal to) E{sub n} (less-than or equal to) 12 MeV.
