Several aspects of the thin film field from fundamental properties to applications are examined. Interesting results for the Bi system are also reviewed. The 132 papers, including 8 invited, report mainly on the 1-2-3 system, indicating that the Y-Ba-Cu-O and related compounds are still the most intensively studied materials in this field. The volume attests to the significant progress that has been made in this field, as well as reporting on the challenging problems that still remain to be solved.

Book Synopsis Transport Critical Currents and Grain Boundary Coupling in High-{Tc} Superconductors by :
Download or read book Transport Critical Currents and Grain Boundary Coupling in High-{Tc} Superconductors written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We propose that the transport critical current density for high-{Tc} thin films, bicrystals and bulk ceramics is determined by the magnetic field penetration into the grain boundaries; the grain orientation may not be an important factor. The parameter ([lambda]{sub L}/[lambda]{sub J})2 can characterize the strength of the grain boundary coupling, which depends mainly on the crystal coherence and connectivity at the boundary area, but not on the crystal orientation.

Book Synopsis High-Temperature Superconductors by : Ajay Kumar Saxena
Download or read book High-Temperature Superconductors written by Ajay Kumar Saxena and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the current knowledge about superconductivity in high Tc cuprate superconductors. There is a large scientific interest and great potential for technological applications. The book discusses all the aspects related to all families of cuprate superconductors discovered so far. Beginning with the phenomenon of superconductivity, the book covers: the structure of cuprate HTSCs, critical currents, flux pinning, synthesis of HTSCs, proximity effect and SQUIDs, possible applications of high Tc superconductors and theories of superconductivity. Though a high Tc theory is still awaited, this book describes the present scenario and BCS and RVB theories. The second edition was significantly extended by including film-substrate lattice matching and buffer layer considerations in thin film HTSCs, brick-wall microstructure in the epitaxial films, electronic structure of the CuO2 layer in cuprates, s-wave and d-wave coupling in HTSCs and possible scenarios of theories of high Tc superconductivity.

Book Synopsis Iron-Based Superconducting Thin Films by : Silvia Haindl
Download or read book Iron-Based Superconducting Thin Films written by Silvia Haindl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-27 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a modern introduction to the growth, characterization, and physics of iron-based superconducting thin films. Iron pnictide and iron chalcogenide compounds have become intensively studied key materials in condensed matter physics due to their potential for high temperature superconductivity. With maximum critical temperatures of around 60 K, the new superconductors rank first after the celebrated cuprates, and the latest announcements on ultrathin films promise even more. Thin film synthesis of these superconductors began in 2008 immediately after their discovery, and this growing research area has seen remarkable progress up to the present day, especially with regard to the iron chalcogenides FeSe and FeSe1-xTex, the iron pnictide BaFe2-xCoxAs2 and iron-oxyarsenides. This essential volume provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art coverage of iron-based superconducting thin films in topical chapters with detailed information on thin film synthesis and growth, analytical film characterization, interfaces, and various aspects on physics and materials properties. Current efforts towards technological applications and functional films are outlined and discussed. The development and latest results for monolayer FeSe films are also presented. This book serves as a key reference for students, lecturers, industry engineers, and academic researchers who would like to gain an overview of this complex and growing research area.
