This offers a new theological reading of Calvin's Genesis commentary and sermons, with an eye to systematic interests. This analysis is presented in four chapters: The Creator, The Agent and Act of Creation, Creatures, and Providence. Calvin on Genesis gives unique insights into each of these. First, the Creator has priority in Calvin's thought. The Creator is l'Eternal, who is infinitely distinct and abundantly for creatures in his virtues. Second, the agent of creation is triune and the act of creation is "from nothing" as well as in and with time. This is a purposeful beginning. Third, Calvin affirms creaturely goodness and order. The relation of humans and animals illustrates Calvin's holistic view of creation as well as the impact of corruption and disorder. Providential sustenance and concursus are closely tied to the nature of creatures and the initial word. Fourth, fatherly governance for the church is presented separately and demonstrated by Calvin's treatment of Abraham and Joseph. Earlier presentations of Calvin on Creator and creation are incomplete, because of the lack of sustained attention to Calvin on Genesis. This analysis supplements works that concentrated on the Institutes and Calvin on Job, by bringing new material to bear. Further, throughout this analysis lies the implicit example of a biblical theologian, who pursues what is useful from scripture for the sake of piety in the church. Insights from Calvin's thought on Genesis provide a foundation for systematic work that reflects on this locus and the integrated practice of theology.

For instance, firmly as he believed the doctrine of the Trinity, he refuses to derive an argument in its favor, from the plural form of the name of God in the first chapter of Genesis. It were easy to multiply examples of this kinds which, whether we agree in his conclusions or not, cannot fail to produce the conviction, that he is, at least, an honest Commentator, and will not make any passage of Scripture speak more or less than, according to his view, its Divine Author intended it to speak. Calvin has been charged with ignorance of the language in which the Old Testament was written. Father Simon says that he scarcely knew more of Hebrew than the letters! The charge is malicious and ill founded. It may, however, be allowed that a critical examination of the text of Holy Scripture was not the end which Calvin proposed to himself; nor had he perhaps the materials or the time necessary for that accurate investigation of word and syllables to which the Scriptures have more recently been subjected. Still his verbal criticisms are neither few nor unimportant, though he lays comparatively little stress upon them himself. F5 His great strength, however, is seen in the clear, comprehensive view he takes of the subject before him, in the facility with which he penetrates the meaning of his Author, in the lucid expression he gives to that meaning, in the variety of new yet solid and profitable thoughts which he frequently elicits from what are apparently the least promising portions of the sacred text, in the admirable precision with which he unfolds every doctrine of Holy Scripture, whether veiled under figures and types, or implied in prophetical allusions, or asserted in the records of the Gospel. As his own mind was completely imbued with the whole system of divine truth, and as his capacious memory never seemed to lose anything which it had once apprehended, he was always able to present a harmonized and consistent view of truth to his readers, and to show the relative position in which any given portion of it stood to all the rest. This has given a completeness and symmetry to his Commentaries which could scarcely have been looked for; as they were not composed in the order in which the Sacred Books stand in the Volume of Inspiration, nor perhaps in any order of which a clear account can now be given. We know this truth as Jesus as the Eternal living word (Jn 1:1), told Moses all that Moses needed to know and write down as historical fact. This author has research over 60 works - scholarly books to discuss and confirm the truth of the Bible for this title: Bible Creation Truth - Genesis 1. Man is the apex of the Lord God's creation not the ape of evolutionism. God's creation of His fullness apart from man was different for He said "Let the land produce living creatures..." (Gen 1:24). However, when God made man, it was a personal relationship - "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule ......" (Gen 1:26). Man was made viceroy of God's creation, in charge of all God's work under God until man was disobedient. The aim of this work is to encourage believers to focus on the absolute truth of the history of the Bible - Holy Scripture (2 Tim 3:15-17). The focus is literal Biblical truth as opposed to a focus on metaphor, allegory or poetry. Some will suggest there is a place for these but this leads to liberal relativism. The question is - which worldview? In the theological subject "Apologetics" much has been written emphasising that Christians must be prepared to give a reason for heir hope in Jesus, but also to be well versed in the Historical fact of Scriptural truth. Thus this work is an encouragement for diligent study of literal Biblical truth. In this work, this author will not limit the theology of the existence of God. The Biblical fact is that God does exist and that He is sovereign. The sovereignty of God, (Elohim) (Ge 1;1-2:3), the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit - YAHWEH (LORD) (Ge 2:4ff) is Biblical fact and the truth of the Trinity and the authority of the Person of Jesus is not questioned. Separate chapters are devoted to these truths. Jesus is the eternal second Person of YAHWEH, who came into our history but who has always been present in God's eternity in the loving unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 1:19,20) Jesus was to be Saviour as this Scripture teaches - Saviour before the world began. This work focuses on firstly an overview of the truth of 6 literal days of creation. The supernatural and miraculous works of God are never questioned. Natural God given laws of physics and a cosmological model are examined. The question of evolution is also examined. There then follows the truth Scripture gives on these questions. Several subjects are repeated and added to, depending on their relation to key subject areas. Leaders of the continental Protestant Reformation (Lutheran, Calvinist, and Anabaptist) all grappled with the Roman Catholic Church's moral teaching on the practice of lending money at interest. Although these three theological streams addressed the same moral problem, at relatively the same time, they each responded differently. Reforming the Morality of Usury examines how the leaders of each major stream in the continental Protestant Reformation adopted a different approach to reforming moral teaching on the practice of usury.
