Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only a few years following its original development by the English physicist G.N. HOUNSFIELD, cranial computerized tomography has proved to be of revolutionary importance for the diagnosis of brain disorders. This is reflected not l~ast by the almost immediate and worldwide ac ceptance of this diagnostic method. Meanwhile, computerized tomography has in addition led to a considerably improved diagnosis of lesions within the orbital region. With the technically advanced systems of the second generation that will soon be available, the method can also be applied to the study of pathological processes of the facial region of the skull and the neck as well. Finally, although at present still at the stage of clinical investigation, the whole-body scanning system will enable investigation of all parts of the body. Stimulated by the successful 1st and 2nd Internalional Symposium on Computerized Tomography held in Hamilton, Bermuda, in ~'arch 1975 and in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in April 1976, we organized a meeting on cranial computerized tomography which took place in ~unich, June 10 to 12, 1976. It was the aim of this symposium to provide basic informa tion as well as to exchange the experiences with the new method.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by experts in the field, this beautifully illustrated text/atlas provides the tools you need to directly visualize and interpret cranial CT and MR images. It reviews with exacting detail the normal anatomic brain structures identified on sagittal, coronal, and axial imaging planes. Use this book to make accurate and complete neurological assessments at the earliest possible stages - before reaching the sectioning or operating table. This revised and expanded third edition contains nearly 600 illustrations - most in color - that provide graphic representations of brain structures, arteries, arterial territories, veins, nerves and neurofunctional systems. The illustrations depict anatomic structures in shades of gray similar to the way they are seen in CT and MR images.Highlights of the third edition:- Content and illustrations expanded by more than 20%- High resolution T1 and T2 weighted MR images- Improved anatomic terminology for more accurate descriptions of findingsClinically relevant, easily readable, and clearly organized, this well-illustrated book is an essential introduction to the field for medical students and residents in neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and radiology. Practicing specialists will also benefit from this practical day-to-day tool.

Book Synopsis Imaging of Head and Neck Cancer by : A. T. Ahuja
Download or read book Imaging of Head and Neck Cancer written by A. T. Ahuja and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise integrated handbook looks at all available imaging methods for head and neck cancer, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each method. The information is provided in a clinical context and will guide radiologists as to the information the clinician actually needs when managing a patient with head and neck cancer. It will also provide the clinician with the advantages and limitations of imaging. The text therefore deals with Ultrasound, CT and MRI. The initial chapters aim to give the reader a core knowledge, which can be used in imaging by the various methods described. The subsequent chapters are directed towards clinical problems and deal with the common cancers in a logical order.

Book Synopsis Computed Tomography in Intracranial Tumors by : G.B. Bradac
Download or read book Computed Tomography in Intracranial Tumors written by G.B. Bradac and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current book represents a distillation of the experience gained in diagnosis of intracranial tumors with computed X-ray tomography at the University Hos pitals of Berlin, Mainz, and Miinchen. To what purpose? Standard radiological techniques such as pneumoencephalography with lumbar puncture and cerebral arteriography with puncture of the common carotid artery are invasive proce dures which entail a certain amount of risk as well as discomfort for the patient. Furthermore, diagnoses made with these procedures rely primarily on indirect signs of an intracranial space-occupying lesion - such as displacement of the air-filled ventricles or of normal cerebral vessels. Only a few types of tumor are demonstrated directly with these techniques. In contrast, computed tomography demonstrates the pathology directly in almost all cases, and this with a minimum of risk and discomfort. In addition, normal intracranial structures are demonstrated, so that the tumor's effect on its surroundings can be evaluated. Today, almost a decade after HOUNSFIELD'S revolutionary invention, diagno sis of brain tumors without computed tomography is almost unthinkable, if not in fact irresponsible.
Book Synopsis Computerized Tomography Brain Metabolism Spinal Injuries by : W. Driesen
Download or read book Computerized Tomography Brain Metabolism Spinal Injuries written by W. Driesen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: W.DRIESEN This volume contains the original text of 60 papers delivered at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the German Society for Neurosurgery, held in TUbingen, 22nd to 25th April, 1981. They represent a selection from 91 papers submitted, a third of which had to be excluded on critical analysis. This was deemed necessary on account of costs, and in order to keep the volume of a size and standard usually achieved within the last few years. Three main subjects were considered: 1. changes in methods of investigation and treatment of neurosurgi cal·conditions, brought about by the use of computerised axial tomography (C.A.T .• scanning); 2. papers dealing with fundamental research concerned with normal and abnormal cerebral metabolism; 3. trauma to the vertebral column and spinal cord, and its sequelae; and, 4. free communications. The organisers of this meeting tried, in contradistinction to pre vious custom, to shift the emphasis away from highlighting major communications, and so to remain true to their intention to allow experts in their fields to introduce their subjects and pin-point problems, to which subsequent speakers could then address them selves in detail in their own papers. In my view, this did occur in a meaningful way, although not to perfection; a goal always difficult to attain.
