Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of John Cowboy Style: A Paraphrase of the Gospel in Cowboy Language steps into the boots of countless books, compositions, paintings, and sculptures that have, over the centuries, turned to the gospels for inspiration and to particular cultures for means of expression. Author Mel Hooten, drawing upon personal history and long experience, retells the gospel of John in the lingo of the cowboy. From start to finish, including both the gospel writers narrative and every figures words, this retelling presents the gospel afresh through the straight-talking dialect of the Texas Panhandles traditional cowboys. With this approach, The Gospel of John Cowboy Style presents familiar passages in a new light. In John 3:16, for example, Jesus says, Ya see, God loves this world so much, that He gave His one and only Son to die, so that every man, woman, boy, and girl who believes in Him will not die, but will be a-livin forever. If you struggle with unfamiliar words in traditional translations of the Bible, The Gospel of John Cowboy Style offers an easy-to-understand retelling of the good news of Jesus Christ. Whether you love the heritage of the American West or enjoy the thrill of hearing the gospel in new ways, this paraphrase will rope you in with its powerful mixture of cowboy culture and gospel content.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The “paradigm-influencing” book (Christianity Today) that is fundamentally transforming our understanding of white evangelicalism in America. Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping, revisionist history of the last seventy-five years of white evangelicalism, revealing how evangelicals have worked to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism—or in the words of one modern chaplain, with “a spiritual badass.” As acclaimed scholar Kristin Du Mez explains, the key to understanding this transformation is to recognize the centrality of popular culture in contemporary American evangelicalism. Many of today’s evangelicals might not be theologically astute, but they know their VeggieTales, they’ve read John Eldredge’s Wild at Heart, and they learned about purity before they learned about sex—and they have a silver ring to prove it. Evangelical books, films, music, clothing, and merchandise shape the beliefs of millions. And evangelical culture is teeming with muscular heroes—mythical warriors and rugged soldiers, men like Oliver North, Ronald Reagan, Mel Gibson, and the Duck Dynasty clan, who assert white masculine power in defense of “Christian America.” Chief among these evangelical legends is John Wayne, an icon of a lost time when men were uncowed by political correctness, unafraid to tell it like it was, and did what needed to be done. Challenging the commonly held assumption that the “moral majority” backed Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 for purely pragmatic reasons, Du Mez reveals that Trump in fact represented the fulfillment, rather than the betrayal, of white evangelicals’ most deeply held values: patriarchy, authoritarian rule, aggressive foreign policy, fear of Islam, ambivalence toward #MeToo, and opposition to Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community. A much-needed reexamination of perhaps the most influential subculture in this country, Jesus and John Wayne shows that, far from adhering to biblical principles, modern white evangelicals have remade their faith, with enduring consequences for all Americans.

Author Brian Smith shares his story as an athlete and coach, and his experience working with high-level athletes in the last decade to help readers better understand how to integrate faith and sport by: Assisting those who want a wide-angled understanding of how to live the Christian faith in the context of sports Walking through the many questions Christian athletes ask about winning, losing, injuries, practice, and everything in between Moving Christian athletes from simply having clichéd spiritual sayings decorating their bodies or t-shirts to actually living out their faith through all the opportunities their sport offers them The Christian Athlete will show readers how to live out a biblical perspective on athletics and urge them to engage in the gifts they are given to glorify God whether they are the team MVP or riding the bench.

Book excerpt: Join Kris Wilson, a working cowboy and founder of Western Faithbook, on a 40-day journey of transformation, hope, and grace. For cowboys there is a set of unwritten rules known as cowboy etiquette. Not all the rules are the same, and often they will be different from outfit to outfit. However, one thing remains the same. The rules are deeply rooted in a respect for one another and the quality by which they perform their job or trade. Respect amongst a group of men or cowboys is earned and not bestowed. By spending just a few minutes a day, for 40 days, you'll be transformed from a cowboy to a Christian. Just as the cowboy boss drops off his crew for the day at various spots throughout the ranch, let the Lord drop you off. Try it. Give God the same undivided attention that you give your drive leader every morning. In the next 40 days, He has a plan to change your life. "'For I know the plans I have for you, ' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV). Whether you are a working cowboy on a line camp somewhere, or a weekend warrior who simply loves the lifestyle, give Him the opportunity to move in your life. You may not be the cowboy yourself. You may be his wife, mother, father, brother, sister or friend. That's okay, give Him the opportunity to move in your life. You may not be a cowboy at all simply because you are a cowgirl. That's okay, one of my best full-time cowboys is a cowgirl. If that's you, give Him the opportunity to move in your life. For the next 40 days, pull your cinch tight, jig in behind Christ, give Him your undivided attention, and allow Him to drop you off.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book is from that of which it came; a group of cowboy believers wanting to know what the Bible really says about the return of Christ Jesus to planet earth. John, the revelator, was in the aEURoeSpiritaEUR on the LordaEUR(tm)s Day when he heard a loud voice speaking to him as of a trumpet. The voice said to him, aEURoeI am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last. What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia.aEUR It is clear that God wanted to get a message out to the believers. It is that message that we at Cowboy Country Fellowship seek to understand. In our world today we have many who teach on the book of Revelation. Our problem is that they cannot all be right! Some teach a pre-tribulation Rapture. Others teach a mid-or post-tribulation Rapture that must take place at the return of Christ. Still, there are others that teach something totally different. So who is right? Not everyone is going to be right! What is the truth concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together unto him? We wanted to know!It was readily accepted that the only way to know the truth was to know it for ourselves. We set aside our preconceived ideas brought about through doctrinal teaching and set out to learn the truth from the Scriptures for ourselves. If something didnaEUR(tm)t fit, we would acquit any preconceived idea not backed up in Scripture as un-provable. Nonetheless, it was difficult to let go of some things we had held so dear from our lack of knowledge. It is much easier to believe something that may not be true when it sounds so good and requires little effort. Few are willing to suffer for His cross. For the first year we spent a lot of time on the words of Jesus given to the early church leaders in Matthew chapter 24, which took us to the book of Daniel. In Daniel 2:44, it says: aEURoeAnd in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.aEUR We, therefore, set out to identify if those kingdoms were in existence today. After a rather hard start we began to fit Scripture with Scripture found in both the old and New Testament. We began to understand the symbolism God used in scripture based on prophecy already fulfilled. We studied the symbols used concerning the coming of Christ Jesus to become the only propitiation for our sins that God would accept. After about a year we were ready to begin a detailed study into the book of Revelation written by the only disciple of the twelve who lived to an old age who was not martyred (killed) for the testimony of Christ. Some will escape the sword! It may interest you to know that Daniel and John the revelator are the only two men in the Bible of which it is written of them personally that God either aEURoegreatly lovedaEUR or aEURoewhom Jesus loved.aEUR We know that God loves us all. John 3:16 tells us that. But for some reason God saw to it to mark these two men by saying he loved them in Scripture. You can find it in Daniel 10:23 and John 10:19, and both wrote some of the most prophetic words ever written.Enjoy this study. Time is running out to forever know the truth within our hearts for ourselves. All we need is the aEURoewant to.aEUR God will do the rest to open our understanding. You will find that this study places Scripture with Scripture, line upon line, here a little and there a little, and precept upon precept as it is written within the scriptures. This study is much more than just a bunch of drug-store want-a-be cowboys blowing off steam. We discovered Truth! It is exciting to begin a new year with a president who is not a polished politician. Will he drain the swamp? Or will he become a creature of the swamp? Will he keep his promises? Or will he morph into broken promises as one of them? Only time will tell! Personally, I was bred and born a democrat some sixty-two years ago. But within himself, this man is neither! Pray for him. He could be a modern-day king Cyrus.Thank You, Mike Coe

Book excerpt: Is Reading the Bible the Fastest Way to Lose Your Faith? For centuries, the Bible was called "the Good Book," a moral and religious text that guides us into a relationship with God and shows us the right way to live. Today, however, some people argue the Bible is outdated and harmful, with many Christians unaware of some of the odd and disturbing things the Bible says. Whether you are a Christian, a doubter, or someone exploring the Bible for the first time, bestselling author Dan Kimball guides you step-by-step in how to make sense of these difficult and disturbing Bible passages. Filled with stories, visual illustrations, and memes reflecting popular cultural objections, How (Not) to Read the Bible is a lifeline for individuals who are confused or discouraged with questions about the Bible. It also works great as a small-group study or sermon series.
