When Maisy sets off to go camping in the country, it’s only natural that all her friends come along, too. But they soon find that pitching a tent is not an easy thing to do. Even if they do manage to keep the tent up, there’s the matter of fitting them all in -- Maisy, Charley, Cyril, Tallulah, and finally, the huge elephant, Eddie. What a squeezy squish-squash! Good night, campers! Uh-oh-what’s that popping sound?

Book excerpt: A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year! A multicultural family story that celebrates kindness and differences Lila is excited for her cousins Takeo and Rosie to visit. They're going to ride bikes, paint, and camp together! But when the cousins arrive, everything's wrong: Rosie and Takeo are better painters than Lila, have skateboards instead of bikes, and don't want to camp outside. Lila is terribly disappointed until the cousins make her a surprise: a big banner for their "best cousin" Lila! Inspired by the author's own large, diverse family, When the Cousins Came is a sensitive story about insecurity, hosting, and friendship. Katie Yamasaki's tale, paired with bright mixed-media art, reminds children that negative thoughts and anxiety over exclusion don't always translate to reality, and that even when plans go wrong you can still have a good time together.

Book excerpt: Ernestine has never been camping before, but she’s sure it will be lots of fun . . . won’t it? An endearing story about a girl’s first experience with the great outdoors. My aunt Jackie invited me to go camping with her and my cousin Samantha this weekend. I’ve never been camping before, but I know I will love it. Ernestine is beyond excited to go camping. She follows the packing list carefully (new sleeping bag! new flashlight! special trail mix made with Dad!) so she knows she is ready when the weekend arrives. But she quickly realizes that nothing could have prepared her for how hard it is to set up a tent, never mind fall asleep in it, or that swimming in a lake means that there will be fish — eep! Will Ernestine be able to enjoy the wilderness, or will it prove to be a bit too far out of her comfort zone? In an energetic illustrated story about a first sleepover under the stars, acclaimed author-illustrator Jennifer K. Mann reminds us that opening your mind to new experiences, no matter how challenging, can lead to great memories (and a newfound taste for s’mores).

Book excerpt: Four young cousins, ages 11, 8, 5 and 3 are excited at the prospect of spending Spring Break at their grandparents' ranch in Texas. Jack, Sam, Ava and Matthew love the ranch life as well as the fun they have there together each year at "Cousins Camp". The book tells about all the fun activities children enjoy on a ranch. Arriving at the ranch, bad storms force the cousins to change their plans for recreation. Finding a puppy that has been abandoned causes them to chase after the little dog, and they go farther into the woods and away from familiar territory. They are lost with a big storm approaching. The cousins must stick together and be resourceful to find their way back to the ranch headquarters. They brave the elements and use their heads, but find that the dam is washed out preventing them from getting to safety. A fishing canoe by the creek enables them to try for a safe crossing, but takes them on a wild ride down a creek that is now a raging river. Frightened and lost, they make it to the other side, then help each other as they try to make their way home. The cousins are finally rescued by their grandfather who has employed the assistance of mounted cowboys from neighboring ranches. The cousins are now safe, but in deep trouble, as their grandfather requires them to recall the rules of safety for conduct at the ranch and in the outdoors. The cousins have violated almost every rule, so they are given a punishment. They must "muck out" stables and barns, an odious task, indeed. The cousins all agree that they learned some valuable lessons. However, they also agree that there is one rule they complied with perfectly: stick together! They celebrate Cousins Camp with "high fives" and the pledge to always stick together...cousins forever!

Book excerpt: The Bay City, Michigan, YWCA camp began as a small gathering of 65 women during the summer of 1916 at a rental cottage in Killarney. The second site, selected two years later, was on Aplin Beach near Saginaw Bay. In 1924, the YWCA purchased the Camp Maqua property in Hale, on the shores of Loon Lake, with a solitary farmhouse, and numerous cabins were then completed. After the YWCA sold the property to a private owner in 1979, it was subdivided into 10 parcels. In 1987, the Baker/Starks families purchased the lodge and 14 acres. Ten families continue to keep the spirit of Maqua alive through an association dedicated to retaining the historical integrity of the land and remaining buildings.

Camp Grandma is full of innovative ideas that Marianne Waggoner Day, a highly successful businesswoman who became a committed and dedicated grandmother, modified from her working life in an effort to connect with her grandchildren. Along the way, she realized that in teaching her grandchildren, she in turn was learning some unexpected and invaluable lessons from them. Here, Day offers a new and refreshing perspective on grandparenting. Readers will be introduced to a compelling, sometimes humorous, and totally unexpected twist on a role people often take for granted—as well as enter into the larger societal conversation we should be having about the possibilities and value of grandparenting and how the women’s movement has reinvigorated and reshaped women’s approach to being grandmothers. Full of ideas and creative ways for grandparents to help their grandchildren grow strong, think critically, and have fun all at the same time, Camp Grandma reveals the importance of grandparenting and the value of passing on traditions, knowledge, and wisdom to the new generation. Babysitter? Not even close.

And when her beloved Piggy is left in the dryer in the basement, Ava knows she’ll have to face the ferocious monsters lurking in the dark if she wants to rescue her favorite stuffed animal. So she puts on her brother’s superhero cape, grips his sword tight, puts on her pink rain boots and sparkly princess crown, and creeps downstairs. Not even the roar of the greenest and hairiest monster is going to stop this spunky girl. Even though she’s scared and the monsters smell terrible, Ava is determined to rescue Piggy. Ross Felten’s brisk, sketch-like illustrations help bring energy and humor to this story of bravery and loyalty. Young readers will relate to Ava’s mission and delight in her victory over the monsters. Ava the Monster Slayer is sure to appeal to children worried about monsters in their own homes and kids devoted to their own stuffed animals. Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can you do to pass on the legacy of faith to your grandchildren? Could there be a way to impart all the lessons you have learned to the precious children in your family? Yes, and I believe you can enjoy yourself in the process! Teaching the next generation must be our desire because the Lord instructs us to raise up our children and our grandchildren in the faith. How can we accomplish this task? Creating Cousin Camp, How to Leave a Legacy of Faith to Your Grandchildren can be the tool you use to efficiently plan and successfully hold a Cousin Camp of your own. What is Cousin Camp? In 2000, my mother-in-law created Cousin Camp as an intentional time set apart for the spiritual training of her grandchildren and for building a team mentality in the family. You too can pass on godly character traits and create unbreakable bonds that last far beyond your time on this earth. While our goals may vary, we all want to be positive influences in the lives of our family members. Do you want to create something that will outlive yourself? Do you want to glorify God? Do you want the faith to continue in your family? You will find easy-to-follow plans in this book which will enable you to establish Cousin Camp this very summer. I have laid it all out for you. I will help you choose a theme to teach and give you plenty of activity and meal ideas to get you started right away! Follow along as we prepare for something beautiful. Your family will thank you for putting in the effort to become more present in their lives. It takes more than a few villages to raise a child these days. Be more than the name on the bottom of a birthday card. Commit to creating something great! Stacey Randall has enjoyed writing her entire life. She was inadvertently published in 2001 as her poem "Met in the Stairwell" went viral after the attacks on September 11th. Stacey is married to her high school sweetheart and has three children. Encouraging and equipping the next generation for service to the Lord is what drives her most. "Creating Cousin Camp, How to Leave a Legacy of Faith to Your Grandchildren" is a treasure chest. I do not have grandkids, yet, but this book makes me so excited for the day my grandkids arrive! While most people are not embracing the term grandparent, Stacey makes grandparenting a prize to be longing for. When my grandchildren are finally here, I will be using her comprehensive book as a guide to pass my (and my husband's) faith on to my grandkids. She has laid it all out in the book, leaving me no need to guess what to do. She has included ideas for crafts and fun time as well as discipleship materials and sample schedules. This is not a book I will read only once. It IS the guidebook I will be studying until the day my grandchildren are finally here, and we can have a Cousin Camp of our own! Amber Fox, Author, Speaker, Blogger, and Mama to seven awesome kiddos, allnaturaljoy.com I was inspired four years ago to hold my first Cousin Camp. I had no format or guide, but I did have five grandchildren living in four different states. We came together that first year with the desire to build unity and relationship among the cousins but also to impact their lives for Jesus Christ by modeling and teaching biblical principles in a fun way. I experienced success in some areas and colossal failure in others. I would have loved to have had a guide to walk me through the process, and this is precisely what Stacey has so beautifully put together in this book. She weaves her family's personal story along with the practical "how-to" of Cousin Camp. I highly recommend this resource to any grandparent who loves Jesus and their grandchildren!
