Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do women in Niger experience pregnancy and childbirth differently from women in the United States or Europe? Barbara M. Cooper sets out to understand childbirth in a country with the world’s highest fertility rate and an alarmingly high rate of maternal and infant mortality. Cooper shows how the environment, slavery and abolition, French military rule, and the rapid expansion of Islam have all influenced childbirth and fertility in Niger from the 19th century to the present day. She sketches a landscape where fear of infertility generates intense competition between communities, ethnicities, and co-wives and creates a culture where concerns about infertility dominate concerns about overpopulation, where illegitimate children are rejected, and where the education of girls is sacrificed in the name of avoiding shame. Given a medical system poorly adapted to women's needs, a precarious economy, and a political context where it is impossible to address sexuality openly, Cooper discovers that it is little wonder that pregnancy and birth are a woman's greatest pride as well as a source of grave danger.

Book excerpt: Oh, the Sundays when the powerful voices of “Wings Over Jordan” flooded, no, bombarded every house in the neighborhood. Perhaps sun oozed into our parlors or rain beat down the roses in each yard. Perhaps, the snow fell in white layers on the pavements, porches, yards of our houses but the melodic voices of our talented brothers and sisters encouraged us to go on and on and on. I’m sure this was what inspired Papa to go each day for long hours to barber, what inspired him to keep on keeping on. What made us all go ever forward in our every day happenings since, in these wonderful, inspirational songs, always introduced with, “Go Down Moses, Way down in Egypt Land. Tell Ole Pharaoh to let my people go!” our lives were peaceful because all was well with our souls. These great, grand spirituals gave this all-Black community a promise of hope and the expectancy of good things to come. To us, that was what it all was about.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed analysis of the Messiah’s bloodline that reveals many important concepts related to the human condition of mankind. The analysis expands our understanding of the scope of God’s love for all of mankind. The bloodline includes God’s patriarchs, many godly kings, many women who were gentiles, and men who were evil. The Messiah’s bloodline reflects a cross section of mankind and fulfills Old Testament prophecies. The bloodline is the introduction to God’s only Son, Jesus, and his life, death, and resurrection. God loves and communes with his creation on a daily basis. The only possible way for God to continue his relationship with man beyond death was to send his only Son to act as an escape for the penalty of sin. At no time has the bloodline of the Messiah been more important than now. The worship of idols and the new paganism of today are very dangerous and extremely contagious to all of mankind. 1 Peter 2:9 reads, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans are comprised of a body and a soul, yet most of them take care of their bodies and forget about their souls. This book wakes them up, the author hopes, and provides them with a dose of spirituality which they may never have had before. This book is written for everyone, and its stories will appeal to many, if not most, people who will find in them beauty and universality: There is One God, one human family started by Adam and Eve, one truth, one heaven, one hell, one right and one wrong... and one religion. Call any of these by any name, it does not matter, for calling a rose by any other name does not change its beauty, hue, aroma or anything else. So is the case particularly with God whom the Muslims prefer to call “All¡h” for reasons which the book explains. This Volume discusses the “99 Attributes of All¡h” or how Muslims view their Creator. Knowing a maker is done by knowing what he makes. It discusses not only prominent figures but other beings as well: jinns (or genies), angels, demons, etc. It narrates interesting tales about a number of God’s prophets and messengers such as Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon and Jesus Christ, peace with them all and many, many salutations.
