Download or read book Much Loved written by Mark Nixon and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Award-winning photographer Mark Nixon has created a trove of quirky and nostalgic portraits of teddy bears and other stuffed animals that have been lovingly abused after years of play. MuchLoved collects 60 of these images along with their accompanying background tales. An exhibit in the photographer’s studio led to a small sensation on the Internet when a few of the pictures circulated unofficially on scores of blogs and on many legitimate news sites. Viewers have been intrigued by the funny, bittersweet images and their ironic juxtaposition of childhood innocence and aged, loving wear and tear. When you see these teddy bears and bunnies with missing noses and undone stuffing, you can’t help but think back to childhood and its earliest companions who asked for nothing and gave a lot back. Praise for Much Loved: “Much Loved is impossibly endearing in its entirety.” —Brain Pickings
Book Synopsis The BOOK of TEDDY BEARS - Adventures of the Teddy Bears by : ADAH LOUISE SUTTON
Download or read book The BOOK of TEDDY BEARS - Adventures of the Teddy Bears written by ADAH LOUISE SUTTON and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2020 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE crate in which the Teddy bears had journeyed from their birthplace in the factory to the big department store had at last arrived and was being unpacked, much to the delight of its occupants. Being packed so tightly in tissue paper meant they had not been able to move, even as much as a whisker. Some made the whole trip standing on their heads! Deft hands now unpacked them. Their coats were brushed until they shone, and their limbs were carefully straightened. Some were dressed in delightful sweaters and peaked toboggan caps, with the cutest leggings to match. Others were arrayed in little cotton overalls and a few in the most fascinating pyjamas. Most of them, however, wore only their own furry coats. And very fine they looked after all the brushing and grooming. THE Teddy bears sold like hot cakes. Never before had any one toy called forth such a demand, and very soon they were being wrapped in fine paper, ribbons and bows. But one afternoon a car stopped out front of the store. Out of it stepped a fashionably dressed woman, and after her sprang out a plump little girl. She had round, rosy cheeks and a pair of round blue eyes. She couldn’t make up her mind as to which bear she wanted, so her mother bought them all for her. This is how the Teddy Bears met Sally and this was the start of their many adventures. What were the adventures you ask? Well, you’ll have to download this book and read them for yourself. If you can’t read, then ask your mother or father to read them to you at bedtime. Only, be sure not to fall asleep in the middle of an adventure! 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated by the publisher to charity. ======= KEYWORDS/TAGS: Teddy Bears, adventures, action, travel, , Peter Pan, Sally, Bedelia, beautiful, Bob, children, discover, mamma, North, nursery, queer, strange, Tim, toys, twins, two, water, well, white, Farm, Valley, Sweet, Visit, John, Tumble, fall, a New Idea, at the Cleaners, Ball, Abscond, Sea Voyage, Literary, Halloween, Dream Child, home

Download or read book Phi Phi Follies written by Ajay Mohan and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A middle-aged irascible couple goes to Phi Phi to inject romance into their boring career-driven existence. The trip turns into comical mishaps that expose deep differences and threatens to tear them apart. The bitter-sweet experiences are laughable. Readers discover reflections from their own life hidden in the humor as the holiday reaches an unexpected end. Out of the blue something snapped. It was wife. “Stop giving instructions. STOP telling me what to do!” I quickly looked around. We were about 100-150 meters from the shore. I was relieved nobody would hear us. “You can paddle correctly left-right, left-right. At least we will go straight.” Said I, trying to remain calm. “Shut up. I will NOT row.” “It’s quite easy. Just make a little effort. Follow my instructions!” said I, not realizing the supreme stupidity of my statement. Strong independent woman are not the ones born to follow instructions. And certainly not those from their spouse. Kayak or no kayak. Phi Phi be damned. “My back’s hurting, you idiot!. Give me support!!” yelled she. Her words and tone didn’t quite addup. I sensed more exasperation than pain in her voice. An engaging light-hearted romantic comedy you don’t want to put down!

Download or read book A National Joke written by Andy Medhurst and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-09-18 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comedy is crucial to how the English see themselves. This book considers that proposition through a series of case studies of popular English comedies and comedians in the twentieth century, ranging from the Carry On films to the work of Mike Leigh and contemporary sitcoms such as The Royle Family, and from George Formby to Alan Bennett and Roy 'Chubby' Brown. Relating comic traditions to questions of class, gender, sexuality and geography, A National Joke looks at how comedy is a cultural thermometer, taking the temperature of its times. It asks why vulgarity has always delighted English audiences, why camp is such a strong thread in English humour, why class influences what we laugh at and why comedy has been so neglected in most theoretical writing about cultural identity. Part history and part polemic, it argues that the English urgently need to reflect on who they are, who they have been and who they might become, and insists that comedy offers a particularly illuminating location for undertaking those reflections.
