Book excerpt: Pavements are omnipresent in our society. From roads and airports to parking lots and driveways, every civil engineering project requires applications of this complex subject. Pavement Engineering covers the entire range of pavement construction, from soil preparation to structural design and life-cycle costing and analysis. It links the concepts of mix and structural design, while also placing emphasis on pavement evaluation and rehabilitation techniques. State-of-the-art content introduces the latest concepts and techniques, including ground-penetrating radar and seismic testing. The text facilitates a general course for upper-level undergraduates, covering the selection of materials, mix and structural design, and construction. It also provides laboratory and field tests accompanied by a discussion of new and advanced concepts. This unique text prepares the next-generation of engineers with the core principles and application knowledge needed to maneuver in the ever-expanding pavement engineering industry.

Book Synopsis Portland Cement Concrete Resurfacing by : Kenneth H. McGhee
Download or read book Portland Cement Concrete Resurfacing written by Kenneth H. McGhee and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1994 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of special interest to pavement designers, materials engineers, and others seeking information on portland cement concrete resurfacings (overlays) placed over both portland and asphalt cement concrete pavements. Information is presented on the various practices in use for the design, material selection, and construction techniques associated with each pavement type. Additional information is provided on resurfacing experience and performance, including an Appendix cataloging more than 700 existing resurfacing projects in North America. Transportation agencies in the United States are continuing to develop pavement management systems which take an objective and structured approach to life-cycle cost analysis requirements for pavement rehabilitation project analysis. This report of the Transportation Research Board also discusses the considerations involved in the selection of technically feasible resurfacing alternatives. Based on the longitudinal experience of 375 resurfacing projects that were cataloged in 1982 and the more than 700 projects identified in 1993, much useful information on the performance characteristics of portland cement concrete resurfacing is presented.
