Book Synopsis Corporate Reporting and Company Law by : Charlotte Villiers
Download or read book Corporate Reporting and Company Law written by Charlotte Villiers and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of disclosure as a regulatory device in company law is widely recognized. This book explores the disclosure requirements of companies in their reporting activities, and seeks to bring together the main features of the reporting system. The book considers the theoretical basis of the corporate reporting system and describes the regulatory framework for that system. It explores financial reporting and 'narrative' reporting, highlighting the fact that financial reporting requirements are more substantially developed than narrative reporting requirements - a consequence of the shareholder-centred vision that persists in company law. The roles of those responsible for providing corporate reports and those entitled to receive such information are examined. The book concludes with some broad suggestions for future development, with particular focus on the need to recognize the relevance of the communicative role of corporate reporting. The use of new technology also presents both challenges and opportunities for improving the regime.
Book Synopsis Managing Performance by : Geert Bouckaert
Download or read book Managing Performance written by Geert Bouckaert and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-12-20 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, concerns over the effectiveness of public administration have encouraged the widespread measurement and management of ‘performance’. But is performance management an appropriate model for public sector organizations, and has it proved successful? Moreover, how do the principles of performance management affect how public bodies operate, and the way they relate to the wider community? In this important text, the viability of performance management in public sector organizations is systematically assessed across a number of international case studies. The book provides a framework through which models of performance management can be understood in terms of both their impact within a public sector organization, and the effects that have been seen in countries with contrasting administrational contexts. Managing Performance – International Comparisons critically examines the effects of performance management models in the public sector, and assesses their future evolution. It is an important book for all students and researchers with an interest in management, public administration and public policy.

Download or read book Cost Management written by Leslie G. Eldenburg and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-28 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cost Management: Measuring, Monitoring, and Motivating Performance, Third Canadian Edition was written to help students learn to appropriately apply cost accounting methods in a variety of organizational settings. To achieve this goal, students must also develop professional competencies, such as strategic/critical thinking, risk analysis, decision making, ethical reasoning and communication. This is in line with the CPA curriculum and the content of this edition and the problem materials is mapped to the CPA. Many students fail to recognize the assumptions, limitations, behavioural implications, and qualitative factors that influence managerial decision making. The textbook is written in an engaging step-by-step style that is accessible to students. The authors are proactive about addressing the challenges that instructors and students face in their teaching and learning endeavors. They utilize features such as realistic examples, real ethical dilemmas, self-study problems and unique problem material structured to encourage students to think about accounting problems and problem-solving more complexly.
Book Synopsis Customary Land Tenure and Registration in Australia and Papua New Guinea by : James F. Weiner
Download or read book Customary Land Tenure and Registration in Australia and Papua New Guinea written by James F. Weiner and published by ANU E Press. This book was released on 2007-06-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this volume is a discussion of the ways in which legal mechanisms, such as the Land Groups Incorporation Act (1974) in PNG, and the Native Title Act (1993) in Australia, do not, as they purport, serve merely to identify and register already-existing customary indigenous landowning groups in these countries. Because the legislation is an integral part of the way in which indigenous people are defined and managed in relation to the State, it serves to elicit particular responses in landowner organisation and self-identification on the part of indigenous people. These pieces of legislation actively contour the progressive evolution of landowner social, territorial and political organisation at all levels in these nation states. The contributors to this volume provide in-depth anthropological case studies of social structural and cultural transformations engendered by the confrontation between states, developers and indigenous communities over rights to customarily owned land.

The application of design patterns to logical data modeling provides practitioners with a practical tool for fast development. At the end, a chapter covers the issues that arise when the logical data model is translated into the design for a physical database.

Book Synopsis Risks and Returns by : David Michael Gould
Download or read book Risks and Returns written by David Michael Gould and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1990s, Emerging Europe and Central Asia (ECA) opted for a model of rapid financial development focused on bank credit expansion often funded by foreign capital. This model helped boost the financial inclusion of firms and households, but was also accompanied by lower financial efficiency and increased vulnerability to banking crises. The need for financial sector reforms has become more urgent as stagnating income growth, particularly of middle- to lower-income earners, is leading to increased dissatisfaction with the status quo of low productivity growth and limited access to opportunities. This demand for change can be the impetus for rebalancing financial policies to support higher and more inclusive growth. A healthy and balanced financial sector is needed to support structural adjustment in the oil dependent economies of the eastern side ECA and greater innovation in the countries of the western part of ECA. This report argues that financial development must reach beyond increasing access to credit. ECA countries should strive to build balanced financial systems integrating both bank and non-bank markets, enabling prudent financial inclusion. Most importantly, ECA falls significantly behind other world regions in the use of saving products. Striking the right balance across all dimensions of financial development (stability, efficiency, inclusion, and overall depth) is crucial for achieving and sustaining inclusive growth.

Book Synopsis Freedom from Poverty by : Daniel P.L. Chong
Download or read book Freedom from Poverty written by Daniel P.L. Chong and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2011-06-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human rights advocacy in the West is changing. Before the turn of the century, access to goods such as food, housing, and health care—while essential to human survival—were deemed outside of the human rights sphere. Traditional human rights institutions focused on rights in the political arena that could be defended through legal systems. In Freedom from Poverty, Daniel P. L. Chong examines how today's nongovernmental organizations are modifying human rights practices and reshaping the political landscape by taking up the cause of subsistence rights. This book outlines how three types of NGOs—human rights, social justice, and humanitarian organizations—are breaking down barriers by incorporating access to economic and social goods into national laws and advancing subsistence rights through nonjuridical means. These NGOs are using rights not only as legal instruments but as moral and rhetorical implements to build social movements, shape political culture, and guide development work. Rights language is now invoked in churches, political campaigns, rock concerts, and organizational mission statements. Chong presents a social theory of human rights to provide a framework for understanding these changes and defending the legitimacy of these rights. Freedom from Poverty analyzes new trends in the evolution of human rights by combining constructivist and postpositivist legal approaches. This book provides valuable concepts to human rights practitioners, political scientists, antipoverty advocates, and leaders who are serious about ending widespread privation and disease.
