Her lover, Mort Sinclair, a multi-disciplined criminologist comes down from Oxford to stay with her. Gradually they get drawn into the mysterious past of the murdered woman, as a new murder occurs. Their suspects include people who frequent the village pub and also TV actors and technicians who are filming a miniseries at a nearby manor. They hear stories of ghosts and smugglers and Priscilla finds herself the object of seduction by both a leading actor and a powerful producer. Priscilla and Mort learn more and more astonishing details about her dead cousin, Sylvia. Exploring a secret tunnel, she suddenly finds herself alone with the killer. Mort cultivates the local police inspector, who is impressed by Mort's reputation. However, this acts as a split between Mort and Priscilla, and the solution to the murder comes with Mort's clue-solving, plus some unexpected physical exertion from an unsuspected quarter. Now that the murderer is caught, Mort and Priscilla must endeavor to mend their fractured relationship.
Book Synopsis Stepped Care 2.0: The Power of Conundrums by : Peter Cornish
Download or read book Stepped Care 2.0: The Power of Conundrums written by Peter Cornish and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-20 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stepped Care 2.0: A Paradigm Shift in Mental Health, by Dr Peter Cornish, made a compelling argument for why the existing mental health care system has consistently struggled to meet the needs of clients from all walks of life, and laid out key principles and guidelines for how the system could be changed. But what challenges are involved in putting these ideas into practice? Stepped Care 2.0: The Power of Conundrums features essays, interviews, and arguments from a wide range of contributors who have tried to do just that. The Power of Conundrums dives deep into the practical application of the Stepped Care 2.0 model (SC2.0), looking at the ways SC2.0 has succeeded, the difficulties administrators face when implementing it, and how it could be improved. Chapters touch on topics including: the evidence for stepped care, the way SC2.0 can be stymied by the Western cultural values that dominate mental healthcare, implementation science and SC2.0, the risk paradigm and SC2.0, the model’s one-at-a-time approach to therapy, what co-design means in an SC2.0 context, a case study on how implementing SC2.0 can go wrong, the understanding of recovery put forward by the model, and how SC2.0 can work for clients experiencing complex, persistent, or chronic mental health issues. Each chapter is followed by a reflection from Cornish, and the book concludes with a roundtable discussion about how SC2.0 can evolve to meet the challenges it faces. This text brings theory and practice together by including an updated version of Stepped Care 2.0: A Paradigm Shift in Mental Health, as well as the full text of Stepped Care 2.0: The Power of Conundrums.

Book Synopsis Propaganda and the Tudor State by : John P. D. Cooper
Download or read book Propaganda and the Tudor State written by John P. D. Cooper and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a fresh understanding of the substance behind the rhetoric of English Renaissance monarchy. Propaganda is identified as a key factor in the intensification of the English state. The Tudor royal image is pursued in all its forms: in print and prayer, in iconography andarchitecture. The monarchy surrounded itself with the trappings of majesty at court, but in the shires it relied on different strategies of persuasion to uphold its authority. The Reformation placed the provincial pulpit at the disposal of the crown, and the church became the main conduit of royalpropaganda. Sermons taught the duty of obedience, and parish prayer was redirected from local saints towards the sovereign as the symbolic core of the nation.Dr Cooper examines the relationship between the Tudor monarchy and its subjects in Cornwall and Devon, and the complex interaction between local and national political culture. These were years of social and religious upheaval, during which the western peninsula witnessed three major rebellions, and many more riots and affrays. A vibrant popular religion was devastated by the Protestant Reformation, and foreign invasion was a frequent threat. Cornwall remained recognizably different from England in its ancient language and traditions. Yet in the midst of all this, popular allegiance tomonarchy and nation survived and prospered. The Tudors were mourned and celebrated in towns and parish churches. Loyalty was fostered by the Duchy of Cornwall and the stannaries. Regional difference, far from undermining the power of the crown, was fundamental to its success in the westcountry. This is a study of government at the dangerous edges of Tudor England, and a testament to the unifying power of propaganda.
