Book Synopsis Comedy in Arthurian Literature by : Keith Busby
Download or read book Comedy in Arthurian Literature written by Keith Busby and published by Boydell & Brewer Ltd. This book was released on 2002-12 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Articles on comedy in Arthurian romance - French, Dutch, Italian, Scottish and English. The texts analyzed underline the wide dissemination of the Arthurian story in medieval and post-medieval Europe, from Scotland to Italy, while the various analyses of the manifestations of comedy refute the notion of romance as ahumourless genre. Indeed, the comic treatment of conventional themes and motifs appears to be not only characteristic of later romance but an essential element of the genre from its beginnings and from its earliest development. Authors of Arthurian romance, from Chrétien de Troyes to Malory, writing in French, Italian, Middle Dutch, and Middle English, and the creators of an Irish prose-tale, all question the fundamental assumptions of romance and romancevalues through the medium of comedy. The theme of comedy in Arthurian romance has been developed from the orignal session at the Arthurian Congress in Toulouse. Book Synopsis Les Manuscrits de Chrétien de Troyes by : Keith Busby
Download or read book Les Manuscrits de Chrétien de Troyes written by Keith Busby and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 1993 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes are about the forty-five surviving manuscripts and fragments that transmit, and sometimes illustrate, the texts of Chrétien de Troyes. Here is presented, for the first time, a photographic corpus of those manuscripts that is as complete as possible and includes all the illustrations of the illustrated manuscripts, organized according to a new interpretation of their chronology and distribution. This visual material is complemented by a catalogue of all the extant manuscripts and their illustrations and by a series of analytical essays on aspects of the codicology, palaeography, the history of style and iconography, and the history of textual transmission of the manuscripts. The 24 colour and 435 black/white plates and figures include at least one reproduction of every manuscript and fragment, with the unfortunate exception of the fragments that have been lost since their texts were edited and of which no photograph has been preserved. The collaboration of literary scholars with art historians, codicologists, and palaeographers make this enterprise a new departure in manuscript and text studies: many of the essays are also illustrated.

Book Synopsis Call of the Great Spirit / The Fugitive by : Gloria Van Rooyen
Download or read book Call of the Great Spirit / The Fugitive written by Gloria Van Rooyen and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is all about the fantasies that we have from childhood that go on for as long as we dare to dream. How often have we imagined being somewhere else or someone else? This story allows us to do just that, in our vivid imagination. Pretend that you are living during the time when hybrids inhabited the earth and you were a Mermaid, an Immortal, a God, Fairy or a hybrid of any being. Travel was as easy as being beamed up by a violet flame and you flew through the Cosmos at leisure. But remember the darker side. There are also ogre demons with evil wisdom, and daily life is dangerous for all beings. Gods will come down to Earth whenever you called them for assistance. Then there is also a time of abuse and suffering because of the shape-shifters and werewolves and long lonely journeys through storms and drought. Experience a journey through the desert into Egypt, and witness the Great Sphinx sink into an abyss caused by an earthquake! Hear the roar of the God of the East as he is liberated from his tomb! So dream on dear one and delight in your adventures!
