Book Synopsis Steric Control in Copper(I) Thioether Coordination Chemistry by : Keily Heredia
Download or read book Steric Control in Copper(I) Thioether Coordination Chemistry written by Keily Heredia and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tetradentate thioether Si(CH[subscript]2SBu[superscript]t)[subscript]4 was used to synthesize the complete series of copper(I) complexes Cu[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SBu[superscript]t)[subscript]4X[subscript]2 (X = C1, Br, I). Interestingly, a single X-ray diffraction study of the chloro derivative revealed the presence of both four-coordinate tetrahedral and three-coordinate trigonal planar copper centers. The adamantyl-substituted dithioether Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2 has been readily synthesized and it is the first member of the Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SR)[subscript]2 (R = alkyl, aryl) family of ligands to be structurally characterized. Reactivity studies towards monovalent coinage metal ions have produced simple 1:1 and 1:2 complexes {Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}CuX (X = C1, Br, I), and [Cu{Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}[subscript]2]PF[subscript]6. Significantly, the bulky substituents on the thioether preclude the generation of polymeric species such as those isolated for R = Me and result instead in the formation of rare examples of three-coordinate trigonal planar Cu(I) thioether complexes. Furthermore, these are the first such complexes exhibiting [CuS[subscript]2X] coordination spheres. In a similar vein, the dinuclear gold complexes Au[subscript]2{Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2}X[subscript]2 (X = C1, Br), each of which displays a fairly strong intramolecular Au...Au aurophilic interaction, are obtained instead of the polymeric species isolated for closely related but less sterically demanding thioether ligands [e.g., Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SMe)[subscript]2]. The new complexes have been characterized by a variety of analytical and spectroscopic techniques, including electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (ESIMS). An overview of the coordination chemistry of Me[subscript]2Si(CH[subscript]2SAd)[subscript]2 towards other transition metal ions such as Ag(I), Cd(II) and Hg(II) will be also discussed.

Book Synopsis Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium by : Catherine E. Housecroft
Download or read book Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium written by Catherine E. Housecroft and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue is one of the first for the new MDPI flagship journal Chemistry (ISSN 2624-8549) which has a broad remit for publishing original research in all areas of chemistry. The theme of this issue is Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium and I am sure that this topic will attract many exciting contributions. We chose this topic because it encompasses the unity of contemporary pluridisciplinary science, in which organic, inorganic, physical and theoretical chemists work together with molecular biologists and physicists to develop a systems-level understanding of molecular interactions. The description of supramolecular chemistry as 'chemistry beyond the molecule' (Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Lecture and Gautam R. Desiraju, Nature, 2001, 412, 397) addresses the wide variety of weak, non-covalent interactions that are the basis for the assembly of supramolecular architectures, molecular receptors and molecular recognition, programed molecular systems, dynamic combinatorial libraries, coordination networks and functional supramolecular materials. We welcome submissions from all disciplines involved in this exciting and evolving area of science.
Book Synopsis Lanthanide Metal-Organic Frameworks by : Peng Cheng
Download or read book Lanthanide Metal-Organic Frameworks written by Peng Cheng and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Structure and Bonding publishes critical reviews on topics of research concerned with chemical structure and bonding. The scope of the series spans the entire Periodic Table and addresses structure and bonding issues associated with all of the elements. It also focuses attention on new and developing areas of modern structural and theoretical chemistry such as nanostructures, molecular electronics, designed molecular solids, surfaces, metal clusters and supramolecular structures. Physical and spectroscopic techniques used to determine, examine and model structures fall within the purview of Structure and Bonding to the extent that the focus is on the scientific results obtained and not on specialist information concerning the techniques themselves. Issues associated with the development of bonding models and generalizations that illuminate the reactivity pathways and rates of chemical processes are also relevant. The individual volumes in the series are thematic. The goal of each volume is to give the reader, whether at a university or in industry, a comprehensive overview of an area where new insights are emerging that are of interest to a larger scientific audience. Thus each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years should be presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. A description of the physical basis of the experimental techniques that have been used to provide the primary data may also be appropriate, if it has not been covered in detail elsewhere. The coverage need not be exhaustive in data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the new principles being developed that will allow the reader, who is not a specialist in the area covered, to understand the data presented. Discussion of possible future research directions in the area is welcomed. Review articles for the individual volumes are invited by the volume editors. Readership: research scientists at universities or in industry, graduate students.

Book Synopsis Lanthanide Single Molecule Magnets by : Jinkui Tang
Download or read book Lanthanide Single Molecule Magnets written by Jinkui Tang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins by providing basic information on single-molecule magnets (SMMs), covering the magnetism of lanthanide, the characterization and relaxation dynamics of SMMs and advanced means of studying lanthanide SMMs. It then systematically introduces lanthanide SMMs ranging from mononuclear and dinuclear to polynuclear complexes, classifying them and highlighting those SMMs with high barrier and blocking temperatures – an approach that provides some very valuable indicators for the structural features needed to optimize the contribution of an Ising type spin to a molecular magnet. The final chapter presents some of the newest developments in the lanthanide SMM field, such as the design of multifunctional and stimuli-responsive magnetic materials as well as the anchoring and organization of the SMMs on surfaces. In addition, the crystal structure and magnetic data are clearly presented with a wealth of illustrations in each chapter, helping newcomers and experts alike to better grasp ongoing trends and explore new directions. Jinkui Tang is a professor at Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Peng Zhang is currently pursuing his PhD at Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with a specific focus on the molecular magnetism of lanthanide compounds under the supervision of Prof. Jinkui Tang.

Book Synopsis Metallo-Drugs: Development and Action of Anticancer Agents by : Astrid Sigel
Download or read book Metallo-Drugs: Development and Action of Anticancer Agents written by Astrid Sigel and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 18, entitled Metallo-Drugs: Development and Action of Anticancer Agents of the series Metal Ions in Life Sciences centers on biological, medicinal inorganic chemistry. The serendipitous discovery of the antitumor activity of cis-diamminodichloroplatinum(II) (cisplatin) by Barnett Rosenberg in the 1960s is a landmark in metallodrug-based chemotherapy. The success of cisplatin in the clinic, followed by oxaliplatin and carboplatin, along with their drawbacks relating mainly to resistance development and severe toxicity, initiated research on polynuclear platinum complexes and on Pt(IV) complexes as prodrugs. Furthermore, the indicated shortcomings led to the exploration of other transition and main group metal ions, among them Ru(II/III), Au(I/III), Ti(IV), V(IV/V), and Ga(III) including also the essential metal ions Fe(II/III), Cu(I/II), and Zn(II). Ionic as well as covalent and non-covalent interactions between structurally very different complexes and biomolecules like nucleic acids, proteins, and carbohydrates are studied and discussed with regard to their possible anticancer actions. Hence, MILS-18 summarizes the research at the forefront of medicinal inorganic chemistry, including studies on the next-generation, tailor-made anticancer drugs. All this and more is treated in an authoritative and timely manner in the 17 stimulating chapters of this book, written by 39 internationally recognized experts from 10 nations (from the US via Europe to China and Australia). The impact of this vibrant research area is manifested by more than 2700 references, nearly 150 illustrations (more than half in color) and several comprehensive tables. Metallo-Drugs: Development and Action of Anticancer Agents is an essential resource for scientists working in the wide range from enzymology, material sciences, analytical, organic, and inorganic biochemistry all the way through to medicine including the clinic ... not forgetting that it also provides excellent information for teaching.
