Book Synopsis Converting the Saxons by : Joshua M. Cragle
Download or read book Converting the Saxons written by Joshua M. Cragle and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilizing a “crusading ethos,” from 772 to 804 AD, Charlemagne, King of the Franks, waged war against the continental Saxons to integrate them within the growing Frankish Empire and facilitate their conversion to Christianity. While substantial research has been produced concerning various components of Carolingian history, this work offers a unique examination of Charlemagne’s Saxon Wars as a case study for understanding methods of conversion used in the Christianization of Europe, as well as their significance for subsequent conversion strategies employed around the globe. Converting the Saxons builds on prior scholarly research, is grounded in primary sources, and is contextualized with a robust historical introduction. Throughout the text, particular emphasis is given to Christian encounters with paganism and the way paganism was interpreted, confronted, and transformed. Within those encounters, we observe myriad forces of coercion and incentivization used in societal religious conversion, demonstrating the need for a serious reconsideration of the standard narratives surrounding Christian missions. This book provides a scholarly and accessible resource for students and researchers interested in transhistorical methods of conversion, the history of Christianity, Early Medieval paganism, Colonial religious encounters, and the nature of religious conversion.

Book Synopsis Is the Bible Good for Women? by : Wendy Alsup
Download or read book Is the Bible Good for Women? written by Wendy Alsup and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible to embrace the inherent dignity of womanhood while still cherishing the Bible? Many people, both inside and outside the church, are concerned that an orthodox understanding of the Bible is threatening and even harmful to women. After all, the Bible has a number of passages regarding women that are deeply troubling and hard to read. But is that assessment accurate? In this fascinating look at God’s work of redemption from Creation to today, Wendy Alsup explores questions such as: * How does God view justice and equal rights for women? * What does it mean to be made in the image of God? * How have the centuries distorted our interpretation of how God views women? * How did Jesus approach the Old Testament and how does that help us read difficult passages today? * What is the difference between a modern view of feminism and the feminism that Scripture models? * How does the Bible explain the Bible to us? Using a Jesus-centered understanding to look at both God’s grand storyline and specific biblical passages, Alsup gives practical and accessible tools for understanding the noble ways God speaks to and about women in its pages and the dignity He places on His daughters.
Book Synopsis Overcoming Through the Spirit by : Gregory Spalding
Download or read book Overcoming Through the Spirit written by Gregory Spalding and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-05-26 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book “Overcoming Through the Spirit” the author shows the world of today to be no different than the world in the time of the apostles. The Apostle John wrote, “the whole world lieth in wickedness” (1 John 5:19) Today there is also false doctrines, false prophets and teachers, and people in all nations proclaiming themselves to be something they are not. The foremost reason I have written this book is that I was deeply impressed by God to write this book and entitle it “Overcoming through the Spirit.” I began a writing ministry in September of 1994 that is continuing at present writing articles for the church bulletin based on the messages preached by the ministry. These articles comprise most of the essential doctrines on a Christian's overcoming faith. When adding a comment from a church bulletin article on a particular thought, I reference it with an endnote. While a book instructing someone to overcome and have victory in their life is needful, experiential knowledge is the best teacher and way to learn the art of overcoming through the help of the Spirit and the word of God. I desire that this book be a great source to all who read it on maintaining an upright spirit and living for God in truth and holiness through the Spirit and word of Jesus Christ working in their hearts (Philippians 2:13).
Book Synopsis The Spirit of Christ in Human Brains and Neurosurgery by : Ramsis F. Ghaly MD FACS
Download or read book The Spirit of Christ in Human Brains and Neurosurgery written by Ramsis F. Ghaly MD FACS and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-06-07 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no doubt in my mind that the Spirit of God is connected to the human brain within the skull. The human brain is not limited to the boundaries of the skull. Instead, it goes beyond the physical barriers of our planet and into the spiritual world. My Christian faith, as a Coptic Egyptian Orthodox, was the main reason I chose to be a neurosurgeon. It is in this way how my soul becomes closer to Lord Jesus Christ. I have devoted my life and withstood a very long journey in medicine and neuroscience, leaving my home country of Egypt and coming to America to strive in the difficult fields of neurological surgery, neuroscience, and anesthesiology. Every day my soul learns more and more about my Lord Jesus. I see him in my patients, in my surgeries, and in my surroundings. Deep within the brain lies the Spirit of Christ. As the author, I explore not only the connectivity of the human brain with the Spirit of God but also the Spirit of Christ in my neurosurgery practice. My human brain continues to be both thirsty and hungry for more and more of his eternal love. In this present book of sixty-five chapters, much of my soul I wish to share with you, the beloved reader. A section is designated to my most recent neurosurgery patients testimonials and experiences. Another section reflects upon the biblical words used during President Donald Trumps inauguration and Melanias speech and the presidents visit to the Middle East for peace.
