Book Synopsis Conventional Oil Resources of Western Canada by : J. A. Podruski
Download or read book Conventional Oil Resources of Western Canada written by J. A. Podruski and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimates of remaining conventional light and medium oil potential prepared in 1986 by the Geological Survey of Canada, based upon extensive geological, technical and statistical analysis of both present production areas and regions still to be fully explored. This information is used to develop an estimate of future resources expressed in terms of probability. An economic analysis determines the relationship between the wellhead price of oil and the long-term profitability of the undiscovered resources under a set of technical, cost and fiscal assumptions.

Book Synopsis Statistical Methods for Estimating Petroleum Resources by : P.J. Lee
Download or read book Statistical Methods for Estimating Petroleum Resources written by P.J. Lee and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes procedures for determining the total hydrocarbon (petroleum) resource or resource potential in a region. Statistical concepts and methods employed in petroleum resource assessment are the subject of the manuscript, extensively illustrated by numerous real case studies. Prof. Lee's computer-aided Petroleum Information Management and Resource Evaluation System (PETRIMES) methodology has been adopted by governments around the world and by major multinational oil companies to perform resource assessment and to predict future oil and gas production. Though this methodology is so widely used, there is no "user's guide" to it, and this book will be the definitive resource for PETRIMES users.

This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the U.S. Department of the Interior released its 1989 estimates of how much undiscovered oil and gas remain in the United States, a controversy ensued. Some members of the petroleum industry charged that the estimates were too low. This book evaluates the scientific credibility of the statistical and geological methods underlying the estimates.

Book Synopsis Oil and Gas Exploration and Production by : Denis Babusiaux
Download or read book Oil and Gas Exploration and Production written by Denis Babusiaux and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 2007 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The steps that lead to the production of oil and gas are diverse, complex and costly. They are diverse because the detection of oil and gas involves input from many specialties, ranging from geology to reservoir engineering. They are complex, as shown by the development of the job of the petroleum architect, who coordinates all the operations. They are costly, as the investments for exploration and production represent more than half of all investments in the oil and gas sector. Moreover, exploration is a risky activity, both from the technical and financial viewpoint: only one well in five produces marketable oil. Meanwhile, the areas for exploration and production are spread throughout the world.

Book Synopsis Do Institutions Matter? by : R. Kent Weaver
Download or read book Do Institutions Matter? written by R. Kent Weaver and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a stunning tide of democratization sweeps across much of the world, countries must cope with increasing problems of economic development, political and social integration, and greater public demand of scarce resources. That ability to respond effectively to these issues depends largely on the institutional choices of each of these newly democratizing countries. With critics of national political institutions in the United States arguing that the American separation-of-powers system promotes ineffectiveness and policy deadlock, many question whether these countries should emulate American institutions or choose parliamentary institutions instead. The essays in this book fully examine whether parliamentary government is superior to the separation-of-powers system through a direct comparison of the two. In addressing specific policy areas—such as innovation and implementation of energy policies after the oil shocks of 1970, management of societal cleavages, setting of government priorities in budgeting, representation of diffuse interest in environmental policy, and management of defense forces—the authors define capabilities that allow governments to respond to policy problems. Do Institutions Matter? includes case studies that bear important evidence on when and how institutions influence government effectiveness. The authors discover a widespread variation among parliamentary systems both in institutional arrangements and in governmental capabilities, and find that many of the failings of policy performance commonly attributed to American political institutions are in fact widely shared among western industrial countries. Moreover, they show how American political institutions inhibit some government capabilities while enhancing others. Changing American institutions to improve some aspects of governmental performance could hurt other widely valued capabilities. The authors draw important guidelines for institutional reformers wh

Book Synopsis Mathematics of Planet Earth by : Eulogio Pardo-Igúzquiza
Download or read book Mathematics of Planet Earth written by Eulogio Pardo-Igúzquiza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 847 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely recognized that the degree of development of a science is given by the transition from a mainly descriptive stage to a more quantitative stage. In this transition, qualitative interpretations (conceptual models) are complemented with quantification (numerical models, both, deterministic and stochastic). This has been the main task of mathematical geoscientists during the last forty years - to establish new frontiers and new challenges in the study and understanding of the natural world. Mathematics of Planet Earth comprises the proceedings of the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences Conference (IAMG2013), held in Madrid from September 2-6, 2013. The Conference addresses researchers, professionals and students. The proceedings contain more than 150 original contributions and give a multidisciplinary vision of mathematical geosciences.
