Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When a thing ceases to be a subject of controversy, it ceases to be a subject of interest. " WILLIAM HAZLITT (1778-1830) This is the fourth volume in a series which we started in 1997. In 1976, Varco and Delaney edited a "surgical bestseller" entitled Controversy in Surgery. This was fol lowed by a second volume in 1985. The immense success of these books among both surgical trainees and experienced surgeons, and their wide international ap peal, supported the editors' notion that a view of controversy is integral to teach ing. However, despite major advances in surgical science and practice, no other similar publication has since been put together with the objective of addressing major controversies in surgery. The aim of this series is to address such deficiency by covering the most crucial current controversies in general, vascular and trauma surgery. Since almost everything is controversial in surgery, we will be able to tackle different issues almost each year. The editors have selected a nationally/internationally recognized authority for each topic. Most books available today are either "North American:' "British-Com monwealth" or "British-European:' contributing to the constant transatlantic rival ry. Our series specifically aims to bridge this "culture gap" and includes North American, British, European, and other authors while maintaining a cohesive structure. This will hopefully also broaden the appeal of such a book across both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.

Download or read book Surgery Review written by Martin A Makary and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2013-11-06 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surgery Review is a comprehensive review presented in a unique format. Topics are introduced with case presentations and relevant diagnostic and management information is then summarized in easy-to-remember capsules with exam pearls interjected throughout. All areas of general surgery are covered, including the subspecialty areas. There is also a section on basic science found on the in-training exam and written boards, and a section of anesthesia, trauma, and critical care. Unlike many other books, General Surgery Review excludes controversial management in order to present an easy-to-remember foundation of knowledge. Thus, the book focuses on "the basics" to provide the reader with a broad command of the field. This title is indispensable to residents studying for in-training exam or boards, and is also popular with practitioners preparing for their recertification exam in general surgery.
Book Synopsis Controversies in Laparoscopic Surgery by : Ahmad Assalia
Download or read book Controversies in Laparoscopic Surgery written by Ahmad Assalia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-08 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are numerous textbooks detailing almost every aspect of the different laparoscopic procedures. However, in this era of evidence-based medicine, a text focusing on the controversies – from the laparoscopic as well as the general surgeon's point of view – is missing. This book is not intended to be yet another textbook of laparoscopy; instead, its main purpose is to address unsettled issues of controversy. This will significantly enhance evidence-based knowledge of this developing field, stimulate thinking and discussions in rounds and meetings, assist surgeons in their decision making and stimulate further research. This book is not aimed only at laparoscopic surgeons – with their steadily increasing number – but also at general surgeons and surgical trainees. It will define and sharpen points of controversy by internationally recognized authors, and thus provide 'state of the art' quality to each topic.
Book Synopsis Laparo-endoscopic Hernia Surgery by : Reinhard Bittner
Download or read book Laparo-endoscopic Hernia Surgery written by Reinhard Bittner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-25 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is distinctive in that it focuses exclusively on current laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques for inguinal, primary and incisional abdominal wall, and hiatal hernias. Individual steps in diagnosis and treatment are described by experts in the field, but this clinical expertise is also integrated with the best available external evidence from systematic research as encapsulated in statements, recommendations, and guidelines. The reader will thus not only learn how to perform techniques systematically and reproducibly but also come to understand which of the procedures have been scientifically validated by studies, reviews, and meta-analyses and which have simply developed empirically. The descriptions of technique are supplemented by detailed guidance on such aspects as indications, anesthesia, aftercare and pain management, and the prevention and management of complications. Where appropriate, careful comparisons are made of competing repair options, including open techniques. In summary, this book will help practicing surgeons to standardize their operative technique so as to reflect current scientific knowledge and thereby improve the quality of laparoscopic/endoscopic hernia surgery.
