Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper reviews a substantial body of fundamental and applied research work on the subject of annulus wall boundary layers in turbomachines. A product of this work is a method for predicting, with reasonable accuracy, the full three-dimensional boundary layer that develops through a single blade row. The limitations of the method are discussed in relation to the experimental information available to the authors. In Part 2 the fundamental work is subjected to scrutiny in order to extract a boundary layer calculation method suitable for estimating the effects of annulus wall boundary layers on the performance of turbomachines. It is shown that a great many assumptions and simplifications are necessary at the present time but that reasonably satisfactory estimates are nevertheless possible. A computer program for the estimation of annulus blockage is listed.

Book excerpt: The report is a study organized by the AGARD Propulsion and Energetics Panel with the collaboration of the Fluid Dynamics Panel and contains the papers, discussions and conclusions from the culminating meeting held at ONERA, France, during April 1972. The study provided opportunities for fruitful exchanges between aerodynamicists and engine specialists concerned with turbomachines, from the major aeronautical nations within NATO. The study resulted in clarification of the current states of knowledge within the two specialities relevant to turbomachines and highlighted the interest and importance of past and current research, while the discussions indicated a number of avenues for further work. This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this second revised and extended edition, the readers have a solid source of information for designing state-of-the art turbomachinery components and systems at hand. Based on fundamental principles of turbomachinery thermo-fluid mechanics, numerous CFD based calculation methods are being developed to simulate the complex 3-dimensional, highly unsteady turbulent flow within turbine or compressor stages. The objective of this book is to present the fundamental principles of turbomachinery fluid-thermodynamic design process of turbine and compressor components, power generation and aircraft gas turbines in a unified and compact manner. The book provides senior undergraduate students, graduate students and engineers in the turbomachinery industry with a solid background of turbomachinery flow physics and performance fundamentals that are essential for understanding turbomachinery performance and flow complexes. While maintaining the unifying character of the book structure in this second revised and extended edition all chapters have undergone a rigorous update and enhancement. Accounting for the need of the turbomachinery community, three chapters have been added, that deal with computationally relevant aspects of turbomachinery design such as boundary layer transition, turbulence and boundary layer.

Book Synopsis Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery by : S. Larry Dixon
Download or read book Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery written by S. Larry Dixon and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2010-02-17 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbomachinery is a challenging and diverse field, with applications for professionals and students in many subsets of the mechanical engineering discipline, including fluid mechanics, combustion and heat transfer, dynamics and vibrations, as well as structural mechanics and materials engineering. Originally published more than 40 years ago, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery is the leading turbomachinery textbook. Used as a core text in senior undergraduate and graduate level courses this book will also appeal to professional engineers in the aerospace, global power, oil & gas and other industries who are involved in the design and operation of turbomachines. For this new edition, author S. Larry Dixon is joined by Cesare Hall from the University of Cambridge, whose diverse background of teaching, research and work experience in the area of turbomachines is well suited to the task of reorganizing and updating this classic text. Provides the most comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals of turbomachinery of any text in the field Content has been reorganized to more closely match how instructors currently teach the course, with coverage of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics moved to the front of the book Includes new design studies of several turbomachines, applying the theories developed in the book

Book Synopsis Active Flow Control II by : Rudibert King
Download or read book Active Flow Control II written by Rudibert King and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in the field of active flow control (AFC) is steadily increasing. In - cent years the number of conferences and special sessions devoted to AFC org- ized by various institutions around the world continuously rises. New advanced courses for AFC are offered by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Ast- nautics (AIAA), the European Research Community on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion (ERCOFTAC), the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM), the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI), to name just a few. New books on AFC are published by prominent colleagues of our field and even a new periodical, the ‘International Journal of Flow Control’, appeared. Despite these many activities in AFC it was felt that a follow-up of the highly successful ‘ACTIVE FLOW CONTROL’ Conference held in Berlin in 2006 was appropriate. As in 2006, ‘ACTIVE FLOW CONTROL II’ consisted only of invited lectures. To sti- late multidisciplinary discussions between experimental, theoretical and numerical fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, turbomachinary, mathematics, control engineering, metrology and computer science parallel sessions were excluded. Unfortunately, not all of the presented papers made it into this volume. As the preparation and printing of a book takes time and as this volume should be available at the conf- ence, the Local Organizing Committee had to set up a very ambitious time sch- ule which could not be met by all contributors.
