Book Synopsis Universal Algebra and Applications in Theoretical Computer Science by : Klaus Denecke
Download or read book Universal Algebra and Applications in Theoretical Computer Science written by Klaus Denecke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-01-18 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 20 years, the emergence of clone theory, hyperequational theory, commutator theory and tame congruence theory has led to a growth of universal algebra both in richness and in applications, especially in computer science. Yet most of the classic books on the subject are long out of print and, to date, no other book has integrated these theories with the long-established work that supports them. Universal Algebra and Applications in Theoretical Computer Science introduces the basic concepts of universal algebra and surveys some of the newer developments in the field. The first half of the book provides a solid grounding in the core material. A leisurely pace, careful exposition, numerous examples, and exercises combine to form an introduction to the subject ideal for beginning graduate students or researchers from other areas. The second half of the book focuses on applications in theoretical computer science and advanced topics, including Mal'cev conditions, tame congruence theory, clones, and commutators. The impact of the advances in universal algebra on computer science is just beginning to be realized, and the field will undoubtedly continue to grow and mature. Universal Algebra and Applications in Theoretical Computer Science forms an outstanding text and offers a unique opportunity to build the foundation needed for further developments in its theory and in its computer science applications.
Download or read book Modes written by Romanowska Anna B and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2002-10-04 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to the theory and application of modes — structures that capture the common underlying algebra of convex sets, affine spaces and certain ordered sets. Modes appear in many branches of mathematics, particularly geometry and combinatorics, and have been used in computer science, economics, physics, and biology. The initial stage of the theory was set out in the authors' research monograph Modal Theory (published in 1985). The present book provides a more complete theory, the result of research conducted during the subsequent 15 years. It contains a clear introduction to selected topics from universal algebra, category theory and model theory, and the foundations of the theory of modes, as well as more advanced topics leading to the forefront of current research in the field. The authors have included a wide range of exercises, usually placed at the end of the section, and indexed alphabetically. Some exercises are simply designed to familiarize readers with the notation and concepts. Others are more difficult, extending the content of the sections in which they appear, and providing a foretaste of further research./a

Download or read book Handbook of Algebra written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-12-18 with total page 936 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Algebra defines algebra as consisting of many different ideas, concepts and results. Even the nonspecialist is likely to encounter most of these, either somewhere in the literature, disguised as a definition or a theorem or to hear about them and feel the need for more information. Each chapter of the book combines some of the features of both a graduate-level textbook and a research-level survey. This book is divided into eight sections. Section 1A focuses on linear algebra and discusses such concepts as matrix functions and equations and random matrices. Section 1B cover linear dependence and discusses matroids. Section 1D focuses on fields, Galois Theory, and algebraic number theory. Section 1F tackles generalizations of fields and related objects. Section 2A focuses on category theory, including the topos theory and categorical structures. Section 2B discusses homological algebra, cohomology, and cohomological methods in algebra. Section 3A focuses on commutative rings and algebras. Finally, Section 3B focuses on associative rings and algebras. This book will be of interest to mathematicians, logicians, and computer scientists.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 1989, more than 700 Soviet algebraists and more than 200 foreign mathematicians convened in Novosibirsk in what was then the Soviet Union for the International Conference on Algebra. Dedicated to the memory of A.I. Mal'cev, the Russian algebraist and logician, the conference marked the first time since the International Congress of Mathematicians was held in Moscow in 1966 that Soviet algebraists could meet with a large number of their foreign colleagues. This volume contains the proceedings from this historic conference. Some of the Soviet contributors to this volume are not easily available from other sources. Some of the major figures in the field, including P.M. Cohn, P. Gabriel, N. Jacobson, E.R. Kolchin, and V. Platonov, contributed to this volume. The papers span a broad range of areas including groups, Lie algebras, associative and nonassociative rings, fields and skew fields, differential algebra, universal algebra, categories, combinatorics, logic, algebraic geometry, topology, and mathematical physics.
Book Synopsis Classification of countable models of complete theories. Рart 1 by : Sergey Sudoplatov

This book was released on 2022-01-29 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the first part of the monograph “Classification of countable models of complete theories” consisting of two parts. In the monograph, a classification of countable models of complete theories with respect to two basic characteristics (Rudin–Keisler preorders and distribution functions for numbers of limit models) is presented and applied to the most important classes of countable theories such as the class of Ehrenfeucht theories (i. e., complete first-order theories with finitely many but more than one pairwise non-isomorphic countable models), the class of small theories (i. e., complete first-order theories with countably many types), and the class of countable first-order theories with continuum many types. For realizations of basic characteristics of countable complete theories, syntactic generic constructions, generalizing the Jonsson–Fraïssé construction and the Hrushovski construction, are presented. Using these constructions a solution of the Goncharov–Millar problem (on the existence of Ehrenfeucht theories with countable models which are not almost homogeneous) is described. Modifying the Hrushovski–Herwig generic construction, a solution of the Lachlan problem on the existence of stable Ehrenfeucht theories is shown. In the first part, a characterization of Ehrenfeuchtness, properties of Ehrenfeucht theories, generic constructions, and algebras for distributions of binary semi-isolating formulas of a complete theory are considered. The book is intended for specialists interested in Mathematical Logic.

Book excerpt: This indispensable reference source contains a wealth of information on lattice theory. The book presents a survey of virtually everything published in the fields of partially ordered sets, semilattices, lattices, and Boolean algebras that was reviewed in Referativnyi Zhurnal Matematika from mid-1982 to the end of 1985. A continuation of a previous volume (the English translation of which was published by the AMS in 1989, as volume 141 in Translations - Series 2), this comprehensive work contains more than 2200 references. Many of the papers covered here were originally published in virtually inaccessible places. The compilation of the volume was directed by Milan Kolibiar of Comenius University at Bratislava and Lev A. Skornyakov of Moscow University. Of interest to mathematicians, as well as to philosophers and computer scientists in certain areas, this unique compendium is a must for any mathematical library.
