Download or read book Advanced Transport Phenomena written by L. Gary Leal and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-06-18 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Transport Phenomena is ideal as a graduate textbook. It contains a detailed discussion of modern analytic methods for the solution of fluid mechanics and heat and mass transfer problems, focusing on approximations based on scaling and asymptotic methods, beginning with the derivation of basic equations and boundary conditions and concluding with linear stability theory. Also covered are unidirectional flows, lubrication and thin-film theory, creeping flows, boundary layer theory, and convective heat and mass transport at high and low Reynolds numbers. The emphasis is on basic physics, scaling and nondimensionalization, and approximations that can be used to obtain solutions that are due either to geometric simplifications, or large or small values of dimensionless parameters. The author emphasizes setting up problems and extracting as much information as possible short of obtaining detailed solutions of differential equations. The book also focuses on the solutions of representative problems. This reflects the book's goal of teaching readers to think about the solution of transport problems.

Book Synopsis Transport Phenomena in Porous Media III by : Derek B Ingham
Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media III written by Derek B Ingham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-07-29 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid and flow problems in porous media have attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from varying disciplines, such as chemical, environmental, and mechanical engineering, geothermal physics and food science. There has been a increasing interest in heat and fluid flows through porous media, making this book a timely and appropriate resource. Each chapter is systematically detailed to be easily grasped by a research worker with basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and computational and experimental methods. At the same time, the readers will be informed of the most recent research literature in the field, giving it dual usage as both a post-grad text book and professional reference.Written by the recent directors of the NATO Advanced Study Institute session on 'Emerging Technologies and Techniques in Porous Media' (June 2003), this book is a timely and essential reference for scientists and engineers within a variety of fields.
Book Synopsis Transport Phenomena in Porous Media by : Derek B Ingham
Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media written by Derek B Ingham and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-09-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research into thermal convection in porous media has substantially increased during recent years due to its numerous practical applications. These problems have attracted the attention of industrialists, engineers and scientists from many very diversified disciplines, such as applied mathematics, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical and nuclear engineering, geothermal physics and food science. Thus, there is a wealth of information now available on convective processes in porous media and it is therefore appropriate and timely to undertake a new critical evaluation of this contemporary information. Transport Phenomena in Porous Media contains 17 chapters and represents the collective work of 27 of the world's leading experts, from 12 countries, in heat transfer in porous media. The recent intensive research in this area has substantially raised the expectations for numerous new practical applications and this makes the book a most timely addition to the existing literature. It includes recent major developments in both the fundamentals and applications, and provides valuable information to researchers dealing with practical problems in thermal convection in porous media. Each chapter of the book describes recent developments in the highly advanced analytical, numerical and experimental techniques which are currently being employed and discussions of possible future developments are provided. Such reviews not only result in the consolidation of the currently available information, but also facilitate the identification of new industrial applications and research topics which merit further work.
Book Synopsis Topics in Multiphase Transport Phenomena by : Robert W. Lyczkowski
Download or read book Topics in Multiphase Transport Phenomena written by Robert W. Lyczkowski and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chapter 1 A Fluid-Porous Solid Reaction Model With Structural Changes, supplies details on modeling reactions with porous catalysts. The unique feature of this chapter is the pore closing, pore opening condition. This analysis is particularly useful for improving the design of storage batteries. Until the publication of “A Model for Discharge of Storage Batteries” by Dimitri Gidaspow and Bernard S. Baker, Journal of the Electrochemical Society,120, 1005-1010 (1973) the discharge of batteries was described by a purely empirical equation as a function of time. Chapter 2 Kinetics of the Reaction of CO2 With Solid K2CO3, complements U.S. patent No. 3,865,924 (February 11,1975) by Dimitri Gidaspow and Michael Onischak, on rates of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. These rates of reaction were measured in a parallel plate channel at several laminar flow velocities. An integral equation flow analysis was used to obtain diffusion independent rates of reactions. Chapter 3 Silicon Deposition Reactor Using High Voltage Heating, describes an internally heated fluidized bed with no size limitations and with no bubble formation and its simulation. Chapter 4 Alternative Methods of Deriving Multiphase Field Equations, constitutes a literature review of approaches that have been used and/or proposed in the literature to derive multiphase flow equations which could form the basis of the theory and computation of dense suspensions of particulates such as coal-water slurries or blood flow.
