Book Synopsis Contributions of Space Geodesy to Geodynamics by : David E. Smith
Download or read book Contributions of Space Geodesy to Geodynamics written by David E. Smith and published by American Geophysical Union. This book was released on 1993-01-11 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geodynamics Series, Volume 24. There are times in the history of a science when the evolving technology has been combined with a singleness of purpose to make possible the next great step. For space geodesy the decade of the 1980s was one of those times. Initiated in the early 1980s, the NASA Crustal Dynamics Project (CDP), a global venture of unprecedented proportions, exploited new technologies to confirm and refine tectonic theories and to advance geodynamics. The highlights of the efforts of scientists and engineers from some 30 countries are contained in the 54 papers collected in three volumes which are dedicated to the memory of Edward A. (Ted) Flinn, the former Chief Scientist of the NASA Geodynamics Program.

Download or read book Geodesy and Physics of the Earth written by Horst Montag and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of the kinematics and dynamics of the Earth has achieved remarkable progresses in the last decades in understanding and explaining a large variety of geo- dynamical, geophysical and geological phenomena. The impact of increasingly precise geodetic space-time measurements and analyses have much contributed to these results. Papers presented atthe 7th International Symposium on Geodesy and Physics of the Earth focus onfour topics: - Present Day Tectonic Motions - Gravity Field and its Variation - Earth Rotation Characteristics - International Programs for Geodesy and Geodynamics Researchers and advanced students may use this volume as a comprehensive reference of concepts, techniques and results.

Download or read book Mission Earth written by Detlef Angermann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-16 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does your cell phone know where you are right now? How is our planet changing due to geodynamic processes and ongoing climate change? How can these changes be precisely measured from space in order to obtain reliable information about the melting of ice sheets or the threat to coastal regions from rising sea levels? This popular science book provides answers to these and many other socially relevant questions. It is aimed at interested nonprofessionals who want to learn more about our fascinating planet, but also at experts in natural sciences. You are taken on an exciting journey through time from the first surveys in ancient times to the satellite era, which is providing us with a global view of our home planet. Illustrative examples demonstrate how deeply global positioning and navigation with satellites pervade our daily life, and what fundamental contributions geodesy makes to understanding the Earth system and determining the effects of climate change. With interview contributions by Günter Hein, Harald Lesch and Stefan Rahmstorf. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Mission Erde by Detlef Angermann et al., published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2021. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). Content and language were subsequently revised by the authors. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Book Synopsis Atmospheric Effects in Space Geodesy by : Johannes Böhm
Download or read book Atmospheric Effects in Space Geodesy written by Johannes Böhm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Various effects of the atmosphere have to be considered in space geodesy and all of them are described and treated consistently in this textbook. Two chapters are concerned with ionospheric and tropospheric path delays of microwave and optical signals used by space geodetic techniques, such as the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), or Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR). It is explained how these effects are best reduced and modelled to improve the accuracy of space geodetic measurements. Other chapters are on the deformation of the Earth’s crust due to atmospheric loading, on atmospheric excitation of Earth rotation, and on atmospheric effects on gravity field measurements from special satellite missions such as CHAMP, GRACE, and GOCE. All chapters have been written by staff members of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation at TU Wien who are experts in the particular fields.
