Book excerpt: La présente recherche a pour objet l'étude développementale du rôle des compétences spécifiques et générales dans l'acquisition du système alphabétique, l'utilisation de ce système et la compréhension de la lecture. En effet, beaucoup de recherches ont démontré la contribution des processus spécifiquement linguistiques dans le décodage de la lecture ; par contre, peu ont porté sur l'intervention des mécanismes généraux dans ce même décodage. Par ailleurs, le rôle de ces deux types de processus dans la compréhension de la lecture a souvent été négligé. L'expérience a porté sur trois groupes d'enfants en grande section de maternelle (GSM), CP et CE1, auxquels nous avons administré des épreuves de connaissance des lettres et graphèmes, de conscience syllabique et phonémique, d'opérativité concrète (sériation, classification, conservation physique et spatiale) et de décodage et compréhension en lecture. Les résultats ont montré que l'apprentissage du système alphabétique dépend des habiletés métaphonémiques. L'utilisation de ce système, c'est-à-dire le décodage, s'appuie sur les habiletés métaphonémiques en GSM, puis sur des compétences métasyllabiques en CP. Par ailleurs, les compétences opératoires n'entrent pas en jeu dans le décodage, quel que soit le niveau scolaire testé. Enfin, la compréhension de la lecture fait intervenir les processus spécifiques en CP et CE1, et fait aussi appel aux compétences opératoires en CE1. Ces données suggèrent que les compétences linguistiques s'appuient conjointement sur des processus spécifiques et généraux. La nature des processus engagés dans les habiletés linguistiques au cours du développement pourrait être liée au caractère implicite ou explicite des traitements cognitifs impliqués.

Deux études ont été réalisées auprès d'étudiants normoscripteurs en situation d'apprentissage de l'orthographe de mots nouveaux. L'analyse des résultats tend à montrer que les connaissances métaphonologiques sont des pré-requis à l'acquisition de l'écriture alphabétique plus qu'orthographique et que les connaissances orthographiques et alphabétiques peuvent se développer en relative indépendance et très précocement.

En effet, ces deux domaines entretiennent un lien de causalité réciproque. Il est ainsi fréquent que des difficultés d’apprentissage de la lecture s'accompagnent de compétences métaphonologiques insuffisantes chez certains enfants, voire inférieures à celles des enfants du même âge ou de même niveau scolaire. Il est donc important d’évaluer ces compétences lors d'un bilan orthophonique de langage écrit. Ce travail présente le cas d'un enfant de CE1 suivi en orthophonie pour des difficultés d'apprentissage de la lecture. Après avoir évalué son niveau de lecture et ses compétences métaphonologiques, nous nous sommes efforcés, tout au long de la prise en charge (du mois d'octobre 2007 au mois de mai 2008), de lui proposer des activités susceptibles de lui permettre de développer ses habiletés métaphonologiques. L'utilisation du support de l'écrit nous a également permis d'expliciter le rapport entre les langages oral et écrit. Les résultats des évaluations proposées au début et à la fin de notre étude nous ont permis de mettre en évidence les effets de la prise en charge, mais aussi ses limites. De plus, les conclusions nées de la comparaison des performances nous ont permis de revoir le projet thérapeutique, de le compléter, afin de répondre au mieux aux besoins de l'enfant.

Book excerpt: Ce travail aborde la reconnaissance des mots écrits en explicitant les compétences et les mécanismes qui sont mis en œuvre lors de l'apprentissage de la lecture. L'importance du rôle des capacités métaphonologiques dans cette acquisition est notamment mise en valeur. Le rythme est quant à lui défini, les compétences qu'il nécessite sont explicitées et il est mis en lien avec le langage. L'objectif de cette étude était de déterminer l'existence potentielle de liens entre rythme frappé, conscience phonologique et lecture, ainsi que de découvrir l'éventuel impact d'un dysfonctionnement des compétences rythmiques et métaphonologiques sur la lecture. Nous avons pour cela proposé des épreuves dans ces trois domaines à des enfants normo-lecteurs et à des enfants présentant des difficultés de déchiffrage. Les relations déjà prouvées entre capacités métaphonologiques et lecture ont été une fois de plus démontrées. De plus, les résultats de l'étude prouvent l'existence de liens entre le rythme et les deux autres variables au niveau de l'échantillon. Et bien que les corrélations ne soient pas significatives, l'existence de liens entre rythme et capacités métaphonologiques et entre rythme et lecture est indéniable. En effet, ces trois domaines possèdent des compétences communes. De plus, des recherches sur le rythme et la lecture ont démontré l'existence de liens significatifs entre ces deux domaines. Le rythme est donc un facteur important en lecture.

Vitruvius's De architectura is the only major work on architecture to survive from classical antiquity, and until the eighteenth century it was the text to which all other architectural treatises referred. While European classicists have focused on the factual truth of the text itself, English-speaking architects and architectural theorists have viewed it as a timeless source of valuable metaphors. Departing from both perspectives, Indra Kagis McEwen examines the work's meaning and significance in its own time. Vitruvius dedicated De architectura to his patron Augustus Caesar, the first Roman emperor, whose rise to power inspired its composition near the end of the first century B.C. McEwen argues that the imperial project of world dominion shaped Vitruvius's purpose in writing what he calls "the whole body of architecture." Specifically, Vitruvius's aim was to present his discipline as the means for making the emperor's body congruent with the imagined body of the world he would rule. Each of the book's four chapters treats a different Vitruvian "body." Chapter 1, "The Angelic Body," deals with the book as a book, in terms of contemporary events and thought, particularly Stoicism and Stoic theories of language.
