La diversification de la production et la multiplication des variantes autour d'un produit de base, tendances de marché récentes, ont rendu la tâche des concepteurs de systèmes d'assemblage plus complexe. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'élaborer une démarche systématique de conception des systèmes flexibles d'assemblage (SFA), capable de s'adapter à cette diversité de production. La première étape de la démarche est une analyse de la famille de produits. Deux analyses sont présentées : la première est une analyse fonctionnelle qui permet de décrire la famille par ses fonctions et la deuxième est une analyse matérielle qui permet une comparaison entre les composants des produits d'une famille. La définition d'un modèle unique permettant de représenter tous les produits d'une famille est l'objet de la deuxième étape. Le modèle basé sur l'utilisation des grammaires de webs permet dans une première phase, de modéliser tous les graphes de produits de la famille et, dans une deuxième phase d'élaborer les gammes d'assemblage. La troisième étape consiste à définir la notion de gamme d'assemblage générique dont le but est de concevoir un SFA unique pour réaliser tous les produits d'une famille donnée. La description d'un système d'assemblage à partir d'une gamme générique se fait en deux parties : la première est une transcription de la gamme en schéma fonctionnel et la deuxième est une étude opératoire des des schémas fonctionnels. A chaque gamme d'assemblage correspond plusieurs schémas opératoires. La sélection d'un certain nombre de ces schémas opératoires nécessite un outil qui permet de les évaluer. Le développement d'un tel outil fait l'objet de la dernière étape de la méthode. L'évaluation d'un système d'assemblage se fait par la simulation du marquage du réseau de Petri coloré temporisé modélisant ce système.

La méthode proposée est supportée par un outil assisté par ordinateur, nommé L.I.A.C.S.A. (Logiciel Intégré d'Aide à la Conception d'un Système d'Assemblage). Les expérimentations sont effectuées par simulation dans le cas de différents produits manufacturiers. Les résultats sont comparés à ceux des principales autres méthodes de génération automatique des gammes, puis discutés.

Ces travaux se placent dans le domaine de l'Ingénierie Intégrée ou du Concurrent Engineering et portent sur la conception intégrée modulaire de famille de produits, ils sont une suite des travaux développés au LAB par l'équipe Méthodologie de l'Assemblage. Dans ce mémoire, nous proposons une modélisation de famille de produits s'appuyant sur des concepts de modularité, les grammaires de graphe et sur les transformations matricielles. Dans le chapitre 1, nous présentons les concepts et les problématiques liés aux nouvelles formes et organisation de conception ainsi que l'orientation de nos travaux. Le chapitre 2 présente les concepts liés à l'architecture modulaire. Des principes d'organisation d'une architecture de famille de produits sont proposés. Le chapitre 3 utilise les grammaires de graphe pour la modélisation de familles de produits. Cet outil a le double avantage de s'appuyer sur une formulation mathématique et des représentations graphiques. Son choix pour la modélisation d'une famille de produits se justifie car il permet de mettre en évidence les liaisons complexes entre les modules et les composants de la famille, ceci à travers la manipulation de la génération des variantes. Le développement et l'application du modèle sur une étude de cas industrielle démontrent le potentiel apporté par ce type de modélisation. Le chapitre 4 contribue à une réflexion sur la complexité en conception et à sa réduction par une approche matricielle. A partir d'une analyse structurelle des familles de produits, nous proposons, des matrices de décomposition reliant les exigences fonctionnelles aux composants génériques constants, partiels et variants. A partir d'un exemple, nous montrons comment structurer les solutions technologiques associées aux fonctions sous forme de matrices diagonales par bloc. Chacun de ces blocs peut être vu comme un module d'une famille de produits et permet de regrouper les solutions technologiques associées à la fonction de ce module. Cette représentation permet de traduire le passage du fonctionnel à l'organique.

La démarche structurée et prévisionnelle a pour objectif de faire bien du premier coup : elle s'articule autour de l'étude des liaisons entre constituants du produit, celles-ci représentant un maillon essentiel de sa conception. Cette étude permet le choix et la faisabilité de chacune des liaisons, regroupées ensuite dans un graphe de liaisons. Chaque liaison est réalisée grâce à une séquence d'actions, ce qui permet une analyse des temps et couts d'assemblage dans différents contextes de production. Cette analyse se poursuit et est transposée au niveau de chaque sous-ensemble; ceux-ci étant détectés par désassemblage du produit. Le temps et le cout des solutions envisagées sont proposés au concepteur et constituent un élément objectif de décision dans ces choix. La pertinence et les potentialités du modèle présente sont évaluées grâce à l'étude de cas industriels: il s'agit d'une famille de produits électromécaniques. La seconde partie, après une analyse de la définition d'un poste, propose le graphe d'assemblage en tant que modèle du processus d'assemblage pour un seul produit ; celui-ci réunit les avantages des arbres d'assemblage et ceux des graphes de précédence. Certaines propriétés de structure d'un poste, vu comme un ensemble de tâches d'assemblage, sont démontrées dans la troisième ·partie. Elle propose aussi un algorithme de génération des postes potentiels basé sur ces propriétés. La quatrième partie décrit un modèle d'état pour les postes d'assemblage, considérés comme des systèmes à événements discrets, utilisant l'algèbre du dioïde (IR, max, +). Il permet de calculer le temps de cycle du poste sous des hypothèses très générales. Un algorithme générale de découpage en postes est proposé dans la cinquième partie. L'affectation tâches-équipements et l'établissement des séquences opératoires pour les équipements sont également traités. Une approche de conception des systèmes multiproduit, qui généralise le cas monoproduit, est aussi proposée. La dernière partie propose deux algorithmes d'affectation réactive tâches-équipements en cas de panne· d'un équipement. Ces algorithmes permettent également une évaluation du potentiel de réactivité des systèmes conçus.
