Des modules de vision constitués de caméras et d'unités de traitement analysent la scène selon des points de vue distincts et sans recouvrement. Les objectifs du système d'interprétation globale sont la classification et le suivi global des objets dans les scènes autoroutières. Le suivi global est réalisé par l'intermédiaire d'une ré-identification des objets perçus par plusieurs caméras. Les difficultés du système d'interprétation concernent la gestion des erreurs lors de l'identification des objets d'une part, mais également les contraintes temps réel que le système doit respecter. La gestion des erreurs est prise en charge par un raisonnement approximatif basé sur la théorie des possibilités et les aspects temps réel du système sont gérés par un raisonnement distribué et temporel. Deux algorithmes d'association liés à des contextes d'utilisation différents sont développés. L'approche par la programmation dynamique traite l'association en tenant compte d'un ensemble d'objet attendu au niveau de chaque module de vision. Le deuxième algorithme utilisant une approche de fusion temporelle multi-capteurs pour la surveillance prolonge les raisonnements approximatifs et temporels en gérant dans le temps la qualité des décisions.

La quantité d'informations disponibles est devenue trop importante pour qu'une équipe actuelle de photo-interprètes expérimentés puissent la traiter entièrement. Pour cette raison, il faut développer des systèmes (semi)automatiques d'analyse de scènes, pour assister les photo-interprètes. Des problèmes aussi complexes que la reconnaissance automatique de la parole ou l'interprétation automatique d'images, ne peuvent pas être résolus par une approche procédurale. Ils nécessitent un système plus complexe, qui prend en compte la connaissance a priori. L'architecture du système d'analyse de scènes, présente dans cette thèse, a été appliquée à l'analyse d'aéroports, avec comme objets d'intérêt les pistes d'atterrissage, les hangars pour avion, ainsi que les routes qui relient les premières aux seconds. Dans cette thèse, nous décrivons tout d'abord la connaissance qui doit être intégrée dans un système d'analyse de scènes afin de régulariser le problème mal-posé de la vision par ordinateur. Cette analyse de la connaissance a priori est suivie par une description du système à tableau noir, qui est utilisé pour représenter et intégrer les différents types de connaissance, la façon dont la fusion de données multiniveaux est utilisée pour réduire la probabilité de fausse alarme, ne se déduit pas directement de l'architecture du système. C'est pourquoi nous analysons les trois niveaux de fusion séparément plus en détail.
