Book excerpt: Le travail de thèse s'inscrit dans le cadre du développement d'un système de vision pour robot mobile d'extérieur. Ce système permet la construction d'une représentation de la scène courante, le suivi de cette représentation en cours du mouvement du robot et la construction incrémentale d'un modèle global de l'environnement. Notre contribution a porté principalement sur deux volets: - Enrichissement de la représentation de l'environnement en ajoutant aux modèles géométriques, des représentations fondées sur l'utilisation de la texture et la couleur. - Prise en compte des aspects dynamiques en vue de fournir les informations pour la construction incrémentale des modèles et assurer le suivi de cible. Nous avons proposé une approche pour l'interprétation de scènes naturelles d'extérieur. Celle-ci comporte plusieurs phases : l'extraction des régions par segmentation couleur, la caractérisation de ces régions par leur couleur et leur texture, leur identification et enfin la vérification de la cohérence du modèle. Deux méthodes d'estimation du mouvement entre images sont présentées. La première est une méthode qui utilise les propriétés de la transformation de Fourier pour calculer le déplacement dans les images (translation et rotation). La deuxième technique effectue le suivi visuel des objets, cette méthode est fondée sur la comparaison entre un modèle et une image. Notre contribution à cette dernière porte sur l'identification de la cible et sur la conception et mise en oeuvre de techniques ayant par but la réduction du temps de calcul. L'association entre l'estimation du déplacement entre images et l'interprétation de scènes a été proposée, celle-ci permet au robot d'effectuer le suivi d'un objet ayant une nature et une forme imposées. Enfin nous terminons en proposant une approche fondée sur la fusion multisensorielle (2D et 3D) afin de construire un modèle global de l'environnement.

Book excerpt: Le travail de cette thèse s'inscrit dans le cadre de la vision 3D et se consacre plus spécialement à la reconstitution de scènes à partir d'une séquence d'images monoculaires saisie par une caméra en mouvement. Il s'agit de reconstruire les éléments 3D du type segments de droite d'une scène en utilisant la connaissance du mouvement de la caméra. L'étude a été faite dans le contexte de la géométrie projective, ce qui a permis, dans le cas d'une translation, le développement d'une approche basée sur le principe de dualité projective. L'idée consiste à résoudre le problème en trois phases séquentielles : - Diviser les droites de la scène en groupes de droites parallèles via un groupement correspondant de leurs images et déterminer la direction de chaque groupe. - Reconstruire les droites groupe par groupe. - Retrouver les segments portés par chacune des droites reconstruites. Dans l'optique de la dualité projective, chacune des deux premières phases revient à représenter les primitives 2D, droites support des segments extraits des images, par des points dans un plan projectif et a mettre en évidence de l'alignement des points qui correspond a un groupe de droites parallèles pour la première phase ou a une seule droite de la scène pour la seconde. Un ensemble d'algorithmes dont le principe se fond essentiellement sur la transformation de Hough a été développé pour réaliser les trois phases. Cette approche privilégie le traitement de longues et denses séquences d'images. Des résultats expérimentaux ont été présentés en vue de montrer sa performance.

Book excerpt: The scope of this document is limited to Enhanced Synthetic Vision Systems ESVS human factors considerations and requirements in comprehension, interpretation and application of imagery and integrated symbology in Enhanced (sensor) and Synthetic (database) Vision Systems in aircraft. Any overlap into logic problems or hardware/software design should be considered to be incidental to the human factors issues. Where the performance characteristics of specific technologies are relevant they will be identified, and where performance criteria are relevant to specific intended functions/use they will be identified. From a regulatory view, intended function (Guidance or Information/Situation Awareness support) has a tremendous effect upon the design of an ESV System. However from a Human Engineering standpoint, the information on a display must be discernible and comprehensible to the human operator in both cases and differences may be primarily in information content (required to support a specific task).This document attempts to be independent of candidate technologies and concentrate on human interface criteria.Consideration of NVG use in a cockpit equipped with ESVS is beyond the scope of this document, but it should be noted that there will be significant integration/interaction issues such as black level limits and use of DTED data simultaneous with NVS. This document does not include consideration of detection and/or display of air targets or integration of systems such as TCAS. The use of enhanced visual scene content as both a tool to increase situation awareness and as a sole flight guidance display has increased and will continue to increase. Correct implementation of these types of displays is essential and critical to safe operation.SAE G-10 Aerospace Behavior Engineering Technology (ABET) Committee, specifically the Enhanced Vision/Synthetic Vision (EV/SV) Subcommittee, has been tasked to provide implementation document guidance associated with the human interface considerations in the design, development and implementation of enhanced synthetic vision systems.
