Book Synopsis IUTAM Symposium on Turbulent Mixing and Combustion by : Andrew Pollard
Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Turbulent Mixing and Combustion written by Andrew Pollard and published by Boom Koninklijke Uitgevers. This book was released on 2002-07-31 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains reviewed papers. The invited lectures considered the many challenges posed by adding one element to the base formed by others: turbulence and turbulent mixing in the absence of combustion through to turbulent mixing dominated by chemistry and combustion. The Symposium benefited from experimental, theoretical and computational contributions, which were focussed on either fundamental or more practical questions. Extensive discussions that followed each paper are included and add to the richness of the Proceedings.

Book Synopsis Aircraft Fire Safety by : North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. Propulsion and Energetics Panel. Symposium
Download or read book Aircraft Fire Safety written by North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Advisory Group for Aerospace Research and Development. Propulsion and Energetics Panel. Symposium and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Conference Proceedings contains 38 papers presented at the Propulsion and Energetics Panel 73rd Symposium on 'Aircraft Fire Safety' which was held 22 - 26 May 1989 in Sintra, Portugal. The Symposium was arranged in the following sessions: Review of Fire-Related Aircraft Accidents (3); Fire Safety Standards and Research Programmes (6); Aircraft Internal Fires (9); Aircraft External Fires (2); Fire Safety of Military Weapon Systems (3); Fire Hardening by Advanced Materials and Structural Design (8); Passenger Behaviour in Emergency Situations (3); and Passenger Protective Equipment (4). The Technical Evaluation Report and and Addendum are included at the beginning of the Proceedings. Questions and answers of the discussions follow each paper. The last AGARD review on the subject took place in a Specialists' Meeting in 1975, followed by a Working Group Report in 1979 and Lecture Series in 1982. The purpose of the Symposium was a review of the present state-of-the-art and of the last improvements. Although the safety standards in aviation are already very high, there is still room for improvements. They are listed in the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Technical Evaluation Report and in the Addendum.
Book Synopsis Transonic Aerodynamics by : L. Pamela Cook
Download or read book Transonic Aerodynamics written by L. Pamela Cook and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers exciting results, perspectives, and case studies for the treatment of problems arising in transonic aerodynamics. New advances including triple deck theory, analysis of stagnation at the nose of a body, transonic choked flow, and the transonic area rule are presented. Interest in analyzing the transonic range of flight, its stability properties, and especially the question of designing reduced drag (shockless or weak shock) airfoils keeps growing. Present day commercial aircraft cruise in the transonic range. Mechanical and aeronautical engineers interested in compressible fluid flows, design of optimal wings, and an understanding of transonic flow held about wings and airfoils will find the book invaluable. This book is understandable to those with a knowledge of continuum mechanics (fluids) and asymptotic methods. It is appropriate for graduate courses in aerodynamics and mathematical methods.

Book Synopsis Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow by : Alexander J. Smits
Download or read book Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow written by Alexander J. Smits and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-11 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A good understanding of turbulent compressible flows is essential to the design and operation of high-speed vehicles. Such flows occur, for example, in the external flow over the surfaces of supersonic aircraft, and in the internal flow through the engines. Our ability to predict the aerodynamic lift, drag, propulsion and maneuverability of high-speed vehicles is crucially dependent on our knowledge of turbulent shear layers, and our understanding of their behavior in the presence of shock waves and regions of changing pressure. Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, and helps provide a basis for future work in this area. Wherever possible we use the available experimental work, and the results from numerical simulations to illustrate and develop a physical understanding of turbulent compressible flows.

Book Synopsis Advanced Hypersonic Test Facilities by : Frank K. Lu
Download or read book Advanced Hypersonic Test Facilities written by Frank K. Lu and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 2002 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the technical challenges that simulations of Mach 5-plus speeds pose for wind tunnel ground testing facilities, such testing has been characterized as "the art of partial simulation." Lu (mechanical and aerospace engineering, U. of Texas at Arlington) and Marren (Arnold Engineering Development Center, White Oak, MD) introduce 22 contributed chapters expanding the knowledge base on developments in hypersonic facilities in the past decade by focusing on testing principles; specific types of facilities (e.g., NASA's HYPULSE, LENS hypervelocity tunnels, and the U-12 large shock tube); and innovations including new instrumentation capabilities, advances in material sciences, and increasing international cooperation. Readers are referred elsewhere for treatment of perfect gas wind tunnels. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
