Il est donc essentiel de déterminer les contraintes électromagnétiques auxquelles seront soumis les équipements électroniques et de télécommunication à bord et à proximité du matériel roulant. La thèse propose un modèle du comportement électromagnétique de l’infrastructure d’alimentation sur une large bande de fréquences et dont les paramètres sont déterminés à partir de données accessibles, par exemple, la mesure d’impédances aux bornes de la sous station. Après une description des sous-stations, qui se composent principalement de transformateurs et de convertisseurs statiques, un modèle HF du transformateur est proposé en considérant les effets magnétiques et les capacités parasites. Ce modèle a été appliqué à un premier banc d’essai représentatif d’une sous-station d’alimentation en tension continue qui comprend un transformateur, un redresseur et une résistance. Ensuite l'étude du comportement fréquentiel du courant lorsque les effets de propagation sont introduits dans le modèle a été réalisée puis appliquée au banc de laboratoire modifié en conséquence. Pour terminer, une méthode de simulation d’une infrastructure d’alimentation, basées sur des données issues de mesures de courant effectuées directement aux bornes d'une sous-station réelle puis appliquées un modèle de ligne est détaillée.

L’objectif est de perfectionner le calcul des perturbations provoquées par le système caténaire-rails-sol sur les systèmes avoisinants (communication, signalisation, etc.). L’étude porte également sur l’analyse de la distribution des champs électromagnétiques engendrés par la caténaire dans un système 1x25kV et par une ligne de puissance triphasée.Dans ce but, les modèles qui permettent de représenter les phénomènes physiques mis en jeu, et qui s’appuient sur des méthodes analytiques et numériques, sont évalués pour enrichir la modélisation actuelle. Les avantages et les limitations de ces méthodes sont donc soulignés par rapport au domaine dans lequel ils peuvent être appliqués. L’importance de la modélisation des caractéristiques électriques et géométriques des éléments analysés est ainsi constatée dans la nature de ces phénomènes. Ceci a permis de montrer que la géométrie de la plateforme ferroviaire influence les impédances linéiques du système, et le profil des composantes de conduction et d’induction du courant dans les rails. La modélisation tridimensionnelle permet donc de prédire le niveau des courants vagabonds dans le sol, qui sont liés à la densité volumique de courant dans ce dernier. Il en découle qu’un sol de résistivité élevée contribue à augmenter des perturbations comme les tensions induites. Les tensions de contact seront aussi plus élevées car le courant qui parcourt les rails sera plus important. L’effet de la résistivité du sol sur la distribution des champs électromagnétiques dans l’air est aussi démontré.
