This book was released on 2016-07 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK MEC helps clinicians decide what contraceptives they are able to safely recommend based on the medical conditions of patients in their care. This key guidance is informed by robust and up-to-date evidence on when contraceptives can and cannot be safely used. Where evidence was lacking, FSRH took care to obtain professional input from leading UK experts in each relevant field. The 2016 edition has been carefully constructed for clinicians living and working in a 'one-click', digital age. Clinicians are also able to access a searchable online version of the UKMEC. The new online UKMEC facilitates effortless navigation, with features that cross reference the UK MEC with other clinical guidance documents. The digital and pdf versions of the UKMEC 2016 (available at www.fsrh.org/ukmec/) have been updated to include a change of UKMEC category for use of progestogen-only injectable contraception by women at high risk of HIV infection from UKMEC1 to UKMEC2. A full statement of this revision is available at the same weblink and should be considered alongside the printed UKMEC 2016.
Book Synopsis Preventing the Use of Marijuana by : U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
Download or read book Preventing the Use of Marijuana written by U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of self-reported and biochemically tested marijuana use among pregnant women in California found that marijuana use during pregnancy was more common among younger women, with rates as high as 22 percent of pregnant adolescents and 19 percent of pregnant young adults (ages 19-24) screening positive for marijuana use.3 To assist clinicians and others in raising awareness of the known and potential harms of marijuana use during pregnancy, this guide focuses on the growing body of evidence related to maternal marijuana use. The evidence from population-based data on potential harms to newborns is mixed. Some studies rely on selfreported data, which can underestimate the proportion of women who are using marijuana and skew study findings. Other factors, such as concurrent substance use, stress, socioeconomic status, and others, can influence the baby's health.

Book Synopsis The Art of General Practice by : David Bartlett
Download or read book The Art of General Practice written by David Bartlett and published by Scion Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of life experiences, anecdotes and suggestions from an experienced GP and GP trainer focusing on the emotional intelligence required to be a great GP. The Art of General Practice is a short text written by an experienced GP and GP trainer. It is a book which will help focus the mind of the reader (GPs of all descriptions: young GPs, returners to general practice and even jaded GPs) on what it means to be a GP. Too often general practice focuses on guidelines, ever-changing targets, incentives or the academic side of medicine and the art and craft of being a GP is forgotten. The book aims to redress the balance; it helps the reader refocus on the emotional intelligence needed to be a great GP. The book consists of a number of short chapters so the busy GP can dip in and out of it as time allows – each chapter helps the reader re-centre on the core skills and techniques needed to be a great GP, and the benefits these skills will bring to both GPs and patients alike. There is almost no medicine in this book; it is a book of life experiences, anecdotes and suggestions – all aimed to help you survive the increasing pressures of general practice and make your life as a GP more interesting and less stressful. From reviews: "This little book is well written and has a pleasant, informal style... The first part of the book covers what [the author] calls the soft skills, but what could be called the social skills required to make the consultation work most successfully... This section might be ideal for a trainer with a trainee facing clinical skills assessment. ... The second part of the book tries to encourage and enable the career GP to look after themselves. Again, well written, it is full of useful advice.... To sum up, a short book from which every GP might learn something." Br J Gen Pract, February 2019 “At times nostalgic, but frequently emotional and so positive, this book is an easy-access antidote to the calls for ‘resilience’ and the anti-patient rhetoric that seems to appear all too commonly on social media, and is a well-timed reminder of why we do the job we do and how to do it effectively.” Pulse, June 2018

Book Synopsis Communicating about Risks and Safe Use of Medicines by : Priya Bahri
Download or read book Communicating about Risks and Safe Use of Medicines written by Priya Bahri and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-17 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the core of this book lies the question how to approach medicines, risks and communication as a researcher - or anybody planning and evaluating a communication intervention, or wanting to understand communication events in private and the media. With a view to tackle current shortcomings of communication systems and processes for improved implementation, patient satisfaction and health outcomes, a multilayered approach is presented. This combines multiple data types and methods to obtain a wider and deeper understanding of the major parties and their interactions, as well as the healthcare, social and political contexts of information flows, how they interfere and which impact they have. Illustrated with real life experiences of safety concerns with medicines, worldwide active experts discuss the methods and contributions their disciplines can offer. With considerations on terminologies, tabulated overviews on communication types and outcomes, a patient-centred vision and plain language for non-medical readers, the book creates a platform for multidisciplinary collaborations amongst researchers as well as practitioners from communications, healthcare, the social sciences and pharmacovigilance. Importantly, it advocates for an active role of patients and highlights the achievements and aspirations of patient organisations. Finally, the book suggests establishing an inclusive discipline of humanities and epidemiology of medicinal product risk communication to realise full research potential. The authors are driven by the curiosity for communication as the most human behaviour, and as good health is amongst the basic human needs, medicinal product risk communication is an exciting research field of high global relevance.
