This book was released on 2003-10-29 with total page 1035 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 6th International Conference on Medical Imaging and Computer-Assisted Intervention,MICCAI2003,washeldinMontr ́ eal,Qu ́ ebec,CanadaattheF- rmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel during November 15–18, 2003. This was the ?rst time the conference had been held in Canada. The proposal to host MICCAI 2003 originated from discussions within the Ontario Consortium for Ima- guided Therapy and Surgery, a multi-institutional research consortium that was supported by the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Ministry of E- erprise, Opportunity and Innovation. The objective of the conference was to o?er clinicians and scientists a - rum within which to exchange ideas in this exciting and rapidly growing ?eld. MICCAI 2003 encompassed the state of the art in computer-assisted interv- tions, medical robotics, and medical-image processing, attracting experts from numerous multidisciplinary professions that included clinicians and surgeons, computer scientists, medical physicists, and mechanical, electrical and biome- cal engineers. The quality and quantity of submitted papers were most impressive. For MICCAI 2003 we received a record 499 full submissions and 100 short c- munications. All full submissions, of 8 pages each, were reviewed by up to 5 reviewers, and the 2-page contributions were assessed by a small subcomm- tee of the Scienti?c Review Committee. All reviews were then considered by the MICCAI 2003 Program Committee, resulting in the acceptance of 206 full papers and 25 short communications. The normal mode of presentation at MICCAI 2003 was as a poster; in addition, 49 papers were chosen for oral presentation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in computer graphics have largely involved the following: Integration of computer graphics and image analysis through computer data structure; integration of CAD/CAM as computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) through the design and simulation of manufacturing processes using computer graphics; progress in basic research on the modeling of complex and mathematical graphic objects, such as computational geometry, graphic data bases, hierarchical windows, and texture; use of computer graphics as an improved human interface to present information visually and multidimensionally; and advancement of industrial technology and computer art based on developments in the areas listed above. These trends are strongly reflected in the contents of the present volume either as papers dealing with one particular aspect of research or as multifaceted studies involving several different areas. The proceedings comprise thirty selected, previously unpublished original papers presented in nine chapters.

Book Synopsis Computer Recognition Systems by : Marek Kurzynski
Download or read book Computer Recognition Systems written by Marek Kurzynski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-13 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This book contains papers accepted for presentation at the 4 International Conference on Computer Recognition Systems CORES'05, May 22-25, 2005, Rydzyna Castle (Poland), This conference is a continuation of a series of con ferences on similar topics (KOSYR) organized each second year, since 1999, by the Chair of Systems and Computer Networks, Wroclaw University of Tech nology. An increasing interest to those conferences paid not only by home but also by foreign participants inspired the organizers to transform them into conferences of international range. Our expectations that the community of specialists in computer recognizing systems will find CORES'05 a proper form of maintaining the tradition of the former conferences have been confirmed by a large number of submitted papers. Alas, organizational constraints caused a necessity to narrow the acceptance criteria so that only 100 papers have been finally included into the conference program. The area covered by accepted papers is still very large and it shows how vivacious is scientific activity in the domain of computer recognition methods and systems. It contains vari ous theoretical approaches to the recognition problem based on mathematical statistics, fuzzy sets, morphological methods, wavelets, syntactic methods, genetic algorithms, artificial neural networks, ontological models, etc. Most attention is still paid to visual objects recognition; however, acoustic, tex tual and other objects are also considered. Among application areas medical problems are in majority; recognition of faces, speech signals and textual in formation processing methods being also investigated.

Book Synopsis Ventricular/Vascular Coupling by : Frank C.P. Yin
Download or read book Ventricular/Vascular Coupling written by Frank C.P. Yin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physiologists have long been interested in the interaction, or coupling, between the heart and the vasculature. The early literature consists mainly of phenomenological descriptions of cardiac alterations resulting from specific interventions in the vasculature. Hundreds of studies, for example, describe functional aspects of hypertrophied myocardium associated with the excessive vascular loading produced by various types of experimental hypertension. Recently, the concepts of ventricular/vascular interaction have found important clinical application. The widespread use of vaso dilators and of intraaortic counterpUlsation balloons for unloading an ov erburdened, diseased heart is a prime example. Despite the interest in this field, until as recently as 20 years ago we were not able to describe ventricular or vascular function in a framework suitable for quantitatively expressing the interaction between these two complex systems. Three major developments-description of ventricular function in terms of both the time-varying elastance and the pump function graph and quantification of vascular function in terms of impedance have changed this. These functional descriptions now enable systems en gineers, bioengineers, physiologists, and clinicians to address very specific quantitative aspects of ventricular/vascular interaction and have resulted in a flurry of papers and symposia devoted to this subject.
