Book Synopsis Literature and Weather by : Johannes Ungelenk
Download or read book Literature and Weather written by Johannes Ungelenk and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Literature and Weather. Shakespeare – Goethe – Zola" is dedicated to the relation between literature and weather, i.e. a cultural practice and an everyday phenomenon that has played very different epistemic roles in the history of the world. The study undertakes an archaeology of literature’s affinity to the weather which tells the story of literature’s weathery self-reflection and its creative reinventions as a medium in different epistemic and social circumstances. The book undertakes extensive close readings of three exemplary literary texts: Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Goethe’s The Sufferings of Young Werther and Zola’s The Rougon-Macquarts. These readings provide the basis for reconstructing three distinct formations, negotiating the relationship between literature and weather in the 17th, the 18th and the 19th centuries. The study is a pioneering contribution to the recent debates of literature’s indebtedness to the environment. It initiates a rewriting of literary history that is weather-sensitive; the question of literature’s agency, its power to affect, cannot be raised without understanding the way the weather works in a certain cultural formation.
Book Synopsis Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles—New Trends by : Peter Gothen
Download or read book Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles—New Trends written by Peter Gothen and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-07-18 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the VBAC 2022 Conference on Moduli Spaces and Vector Bundles—New Trends, held in honor of Peter Newstead's 80th birthday, from July 25–29, 2022, at the University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom. The papers focus on the theory of stability conditions in derived categories, non-reductive geometric invariant theory, Brill-Noether theory, and Higgs bundles and character varieties. The volume includes both survey and original research articles. Most articles contain substantial background and will be helpful to both novices and experts.
Book Synopsis Geometry of Moduli by : Jan Arthur Christophersen
Download or read book Geometry of Moduli written by Jan Arthur Christophersen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-24 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings from the Abel Symposium on Geometry of Moduli, held at Svinøya Rorbuer, Svolvær in Lofoten, in August 2017, present both survey and research articles on the recent surge of developments in understanding moduli problems in algebraic geometry. Written by many of the main contributors to this evolving subject, the book provides a comprehensive collection of new methods and the various directions in which moduli theory is advancing. These include the geometry of moduli spaces, non-reductive geometric invariant theory, birational geometry, enumerative geometry, hyper-kähler geometry, syzygies of curves and Brill-Noether theory and stability conditions. Moduli theory is ubiquitous in algebraic geometry, and this is reflected in the list of moduli spaces addressed in this volume: sheaves on varieties, symmetric tensors, abelian differentials, (log) Calabi-Yau varieties, points on schemes, rational varieties, curves, abelian varieties and hyper-Kähler manifolds.

Book Synopsis A Journey Through Discrete Mathematics by : Martin Loebl
Download or read book A Journey Through Discrete Mathematics written by Martin Loebl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 829 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of high-quality articles in the field of combinatorics, geometry, algebraic topology and theoretical computer science is a tribute to Jiří Matoušek, who passed away prematurely in March 2015. It is a collaborative effort by his colleagues and friends, who have paid particular attention to clarity of exposition – something Jirka would have approved of. The original research articles, surveys and expository articles, written by leading experts in their respective fields, map Jiří Matoušek’s numerous areas of mathematical interest.
Book Synopsis A User's Guide to Spectral Sequences by : John McCleary
Download or read book A User's Guide to Spectral Sequences written by John McCleary and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spectral sequences are among the most elegant and powerful methods of computation in mathematics. This book describes some of the most important examples of spectral sequences and some of their most spectacular applications. The first part treats the algebraic foundations for this sort of homological algebra, starting from informal calculations. The heart of the text is an exposition of the classical examples from homotopy theory, with chapters on the Leray-Serre spectral sequence, the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence, the Adams spectral sequence, and, in this new edition, the Bockstein spectral sequence. The last part of the book treats applications throughout mathematics, including the theory of knots and links, algebraic geometry, differential geometry and algebra. This is an excellent reference for students and researchers in geometry, topology, and algebra.
