When in China they directly negotiate and establish partnerships with entrepreneurial local officials, not the central bureaucracy. Also, they effectively transfer a capitalist ideology of production to Chinese factory workers. Importantly, the investors attribute their business successes in China to the cultural, historical, and linguistic affinities they share with these local agents. Connections regarding socio-cultural identity do more than facilitate business dealings or ease labor relations; Hsing asserts that partnerships between mainland settlements and overseas Chinese investors constitute a local-global coalition of economic reform, one that strengthens local autonomy in China and bypasses the control of the central government. This coalition is nothing short of a new pattern of foreign direct investment, one profoundly influenced by both cultural boundaries (usually deemed insignificant in matters of capital flow and globalization) and local state agents (who operate in this case as crucial business partners). A notable work that will appeal to all students of East Asian economic organization, ethnic business networks, international investment, and the political economy of socialist transition. Inspired by Western museums and expositions, these institutions were introduced by government officials hoping to spur industrialization and self-disciplined public behavior, and to cultivate an "imperial public" loyal to the emperor. Japan's network of museums expanded along with its colonies. By the mid-1930s, the Japanese museum system had established or absorbed institutions in Taiwan, Korea, Sakhalin, and Manchuria. Not surprising, colonial subjects' views of Japanese imperialism differed from those promulgated by the Japanese state. Meanwhile, in Japan, philanthropic and commercial museums were expanding, revising, and even questioning the state-sanctioned aesthetic canon. Public Properties describes how museums in Japan and its empire contributed to the reimagining of state and society during the imperial era, despite vigorous disagreements about what was to be displayed, how, and by whom it was to be seen.

Though classical Japanese poetry has captivated the imagination of Asian studies scholars, little research has been conducted to explore its role in public life as a discourse influential in defining both the modern Japanese empire and contemporary postcolonial negotiations of identity. This book shows how highly visible poetry in regular newspaper columns and blogs have in various historical situations in Japan and colonial Taiwan contested as well as promoted diverse colonial imaginaries. This poetry reflects both contemporary life and traditional poetics with few counterpoints in Western media. Methodologically, this book offers a defense of the public influence of poetry, each chapter enlisting a wide range of social and media theorists from Japan, Europe, and North America to explore specific historical moments in an original recasting of intertextuality as a vital feature of active inter-evental material engagements. In this book, rather than recite a standard survey of literary movements and key poets, the approach taken is to examine uses of poetry shown not only to support colonialism and imperialism, emerging objectionable forms of exploitation as well as the destruction of ecologies (including old-growth forests in Taiwan and the Fukushima Disaster), but also to present a medium of resistance, a minor literature for registering protest, forming transnational affiliations, and promoting grass-roots democracy. The book is based on years of research and fieldwork partially in conjunction with the production of a documentary film, Horizons of the Rising Sun: Postcolonial Nostalgia and Politics in the Taiwan Tanka Association Today (2017).

But none of these books meets the expectations of design and field engineers/technicians to address directly the setting and design philosophy of different Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) of WPP networks. This book provides practical applications of numerical relays for protection and control of different parts of onshore & offshore WPP network namely wind turbine generator, collector feeder and EHV interconnection transmission line to grid. In addition required changes to existing special protection system (SPS) and run-back scheme by adding a new WPP are discussed. The topology and characteristics of WPP networks are different from convectional one for both onshore and offshore WPP. In addition the fault current contribution from wind farm generators are low (1.1-1.2 pu). These causes significant challenge for setting and design of IEDs of WPP in order to meet the common industry practice requirement with respect to reliability, sensitivity, stability, security and grading coordination. The author believes that this book may be unique with respect to addressing these challenges and provision of the mitigation techniques to rectify the deficiencies of existing industry practice which otherwise have not been discussed for real systems in any other book. The content of this book have been successfully applied in the field for various WPPs projects and consequently can be used as a practical guideline for implementation for future projects.
