Book Synopsis HOW TO WORK FOR AN IDIOT (EasyRead Large Bold Edition) by : John Hoover
Download or read book HOW TO WORK FOR AN IDIOT (EasyRead Large Bold Edition) written by John Hoover and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2003 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Hoover, an organizational leadership consultant, discusses how to deal with an "Idiot Boss" - or I-Boss - who does stupid things. Hoover distinguishes idiots from other tricky bosses, including those who think they are God, or who are paranoid, sadistic or Machiavellian. He leaves the reader with a couple of issues. First, you'll think no good, caring bosses still exist. Second, he doesn't tell you clearly where to set boundaries or when enough is finally enough. He often advocates appeasing bad bosses, although his other counsel on how to deal with them has some effective pointers. To his credit, Hoover is very candid about how he has learned from experience, including his mistakes. He offers personal examples from his experiences at Disney and elsewhere, and tries to write in a light-hearted or whimsical vein. getAbstract.com finds the book strongest when it is strategic and weakest when it tries to be funny, given that with bad bosses you only laugh to keep from crying.

Book excerpt: From nationally bestselling author, YouTube star, and Facebook Video sensation Laura Clery comes a collection of comedic essays that paint “an honest, complicated portrait of how your life can change” (SheKnows). Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills! Now, in her first-ever book, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next…to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable, self-described…Idiot. With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original—and undeniably relatable—new voice.
Book Synopsis Professional Idiot by : Stephen “Steve-O” Glover
Download or read book Professional Idiot written by Stephen “Steve-O” Glover and published by Hyperion. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It's mind-blowing to me how utterly far gone Steve-O was, and how he looks back on it in this book with such intelligence, humor, and searing honesty. What a truly unbelievable life." --Johnny Knoxville From his early days videotaping crazy skateboard stunts to starring in the Jackass movies, there was little that Stephen "Steve-O" Glover wouldn't do. Whether it was stapling his nutsack to his leg or diving into a pool full of elephant crap, almost nothing was out of bounds. As the stunts got crazier, his life kept pace. He developed a crippling addiction to drugs and alcohol, and an obsession with his own celebrity that proved nearly as dangerous. Only an intervention and a visit to a psychiatric ward saved his life. Today he has been clean and sober for more than three years. Professional Idiot recounts the lunacy, the debauchery, the stunts, the drug addiction, and the path to recovery with bravado, humor, and heart. "A great book to read before you get on the roller coaster to hell, if you plan on surviving to tell about it like Steve-O did." --Nikki Sixx, author of The Heroin Diaries "This is the perfect book for people who hate reading." --Tommy Lee, author of Tommyland The feedback I've gotten on Facebook and Twitter from those of you who've read this book has been fascinating, heartwarming, and hilarious. I'm happy to keep answering your questions on there, and I encourage more of you to join in the discussion. Hope to hear from you soon, and thank you all so much. Love, Steve-O

Book Synopsis Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer by : Collette McLafferty
Download or read book Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer written by Collette McLafferty and published by New Haven Publishing Limited. This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In April of 2014, former edibleRed vocalist Collette McLafferty had the shock of her life when a gig in a P!NK cover band dragged her into a $10,000,000 lawsuit. The Plaintiff, a personal injury attorney who once played drums for Michael Bolton, had a dispute with her band leader claiming he stole the lawyer's idea to start Long Island's first P!NK cover band. Although she had never met the attorney and was only a "hired gun" in the group, McLafferty found herself named in the 112-page complaint. Stunned to learn she could be in a years-long court battle for singing "Raise Your Glass" at a Long Island Bar, Collette made the difficult decision to take her case to the press. She made a late night phone call to The New York Post in hopes of leaving a message. To her surprise, a copy boy was eating lunch at the Tip Desk during the graveyard shift. Sympathetic to her situation, he knew he had a big story on his hands and promised to pitch it the next morning. Although the dispute was mostly between the two men, Collette woke up to the headline "Singer Sued for Being Too Old and Too Ugly for P!NK Cover band" in the paper. The sensationalized headline told a story of a singer who was so "old, ugly and untalented" that her one-night performance prompted the lawyer to sue. This "fake news" version of events went viral worldwide, garnering coverage in Time, Yahoo News and Breitbart. The former MTV "Buzzworthy" artist was dismayed to see her online reputation unceremoniously destroyed as highlights from her 20-year professional history were suddenly buried under pages of career-ending click bait. The headlines alleged she"ruined" the P!NK cover band with her inferior looks and singing, triggering a deep depression. Determined to find justice, McLafferty fought the case and eventually introduced "Collette's Law" with the help of The Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York and Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda. "Confessions of a Bad, Ugly Singer" documents the emotional two-year journey of navigating the legal system, while embarking on a quest to clear her name.

Book Synopsis NFL Confidential by : Johnny Anonymous
Download or read book NFL Confidential written by Johnny Anonymous and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Johnny Anonymous. No, that’s not his real name. But he is a real, honest-to-goodness pro football player. A member of the League. A slave, if you will, to the NFL. For the millions of you out there who wouldn’t know what to do on Sundays if there wasn’t football, who can’t imagine life without the crunch of helmets ringing in your ears, or who look forward to the Super Bowl more than your birthday, Johnny Anonymous decided to tell his story. Written during the 2014–2015 season, this is a year in the life of the National Football League. This is a year in the life of a player—not a marquee name, but a guy on the roster—gutting it out through training camp up to the end of the season, wondering every minute if he’s going to get playing time or get cut. Do you want to know how players destroy their bodies and their colons to make weight? Do you wonder what kind of class and racial divides really exist in NFL locker rooms? Do you want to know what NFL players and teams really think about gay athletes or how the League is really dealing with crime and violence against women by its own players? Do you wonder about the psychological warfare between players and coaches on and off the field? About how much time players spend on Tinder or sexting when not on the field? About how star players degrade or humiliate second- and third-string players? What players do about the headaches and memory loss that appear after every single game? This book will tell you all of this and so much more. Johnny Anonymous holds nothing back in this whip-smart commentary that only an insider, and a current player, could bring. Part truth-telling personal narrative, part darkly funny exposé, NFL Confidential gives football fans a look into a world they’d give anything to see, and nonfans a wild ride through the strange, quirky, and sometimes disturbing realities of America’s favorite game. Here is a truly unaffiliated look at the business, guts, and glory of the game, all from the perspective of an underdog who surprises everyone—especially himself. JOHNNY ANONYMOUS is a four-year offensive lineman for the NFL. Under another pseudonym, he’s also a contributor for the comedy powerhouse Funny Or Die. You can pretty much break NFL players down into three categories. Twenty percent do it because they’re true believers. They’re smart enough to do something else if they wanted, and the money is nice and all, but really they just love football. They love it, they live it, they believe in it, it’s their creed. They would be nothing without it. Hell, they’d probably pay the League to play if they had to! These guys are obviously psychotic. Thirty percent of them do it just for the money. So they could do something else—sales, desk jockey, accountant, whatever—but they play football because the money is just so damn good. And it is good. And last of all, 49.99 percent play football because, frankly, it’s the only thing they know how to do. Even if they wanted to do something “normal,” they couldn’t. All they’ve ever done in their lives is play football—it was their way out, either of the hood or the deep woods country. They need football. If football didn’t exist, they’d be homeless, in a gang, or maybe in prison. Then there’s me. I’m part of my own little weird minority, that final 0.01 percent. We’re such a minority, we don’t even count as a category. We’re the professional football players who flat-out hate professional football.
