Ralph has devoted much of his life in the interest of civil rights by writing, publishing and speaking on behalf of all minorities, handicapped persons and the aging population. And now, he shows, in a light manner, examples of the serious history, interdependence and similarities and differences between those of the lives, experiences and working conditions of horses and of our own population. He has published, with entries written by persons of ages 4 to 94, the fascinating marriage saving “Love is Everywhere,” 365 ways to live a life of love. The collection of observations and definitions of love illustrate the living with real expressions of love. His “A Kid’s World,” Parts One and Two, contains thought provoking stories with messages that can start children in gaining maturity. Jack’s wife of over 60 years is a beautiful redhead and a former professional bowler. They are parents who enjoy their two sons, five grandchildren, terrific daughters-in law, and they joyously share their sense of humor also with that of their cousins, their fine in-laws and, with acceptance, possibly the entire receptive loving world.

Book excerpt: Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would marry a "Horse Lady," a beautiful but stubborn woman who lived, breathed and dreamed horses. But from the day I met her, I felt her impact on my life and it was profound. It convinced me first to spend considerable time at the barn, a place which I never even thought of previously. And it motivated me to want to learn how to care for and learn to love horses as well, since all " horse ladies" live by the motto: "Love me, love my horses." So, after nearly seventeen year of being a "Horse Husband", I decided it was time to document this lifestyle which has changed me so much. Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks?Confessions of a "Horse Husband" is a story of learning, making mistakes, paying for those mistakes with bruises and painful toes among other body parts, but also having fun, enjoying the fresh air and open space and experiencing love like I never knew before. It is my story in my own words about some of the most memorable moments in my life. Living with a "Horse Lady" is never dull, it's full of surprises and it covers many situations, many wonderful and some not so much. Many extremes are faced such as feeding horses on cold, frosty mornings as well as hot and humid oppressive Florida summers; from enjoying a trail ride with my wife and other equestrians to having a big toe crunched by a twelve hundred pound mare; or even waking up to find that over a dozen stalls must be stripped and re-bedded or even directing parking for participants at an equestrian event where the ground is a quagmire under a cold, pouring rain. And, of course, for laughs there's the story of the pony and goat getting loose in the feed room after devouring roses, or sitting up all night with a sick horse or a mare preparing to foal. The book includes beauty, pride, joy, love, humor, sadness and so much more. There's Hailey the "Boss Mare", who rules the herd completely. Then there's the old man, Gabe, a gelding in the twilight of his years yet still capable of causing a surprise when he wants. Or what about Flannel Jams, the retired track horse who has a wonderful disposition unless you come on to strong. And we can't leave out the ponies, like bulky and strong Charm, a beauty who loves to tease, just like her mother who gained the nickname, the "Pony of the Corn". And these are just a few of those wonderful animals that "The Horse Lady" and I have fed, watered and cared for as part of our family. But make no mistake, the real "Boss Mare" of our family herd is not a horse, but "The Horse Lady" jerself. Come take a ""look see" at our story, if you love horses it's a "no brainer". If you know nothing about horses you might learn something of interest and have some fun to boot. It's about living an active lifestyle and loving it. You can't sleep in on Saturday with horses but you find that you don't want to.Come join us and find out why this "Horse Husband", despite a few questioning moments, wouldn't change his lifestyle for anything.

Book excerpt: A street-smart tale about a displaced teen who learns to defend what's right-the Cowboy Way. When Cole’s mom dumps him in the mean streets of Philadelphia to live with the dad he’s never met, the last thing Cole expects to see is a horse, let alone a stable full of them. He may not know much about cowboys, but what he knows for sure is that cowboys aren’t black, and they don’t live in the inner city. But in his dad’s ’hood, horses are a way of life, and soon Cole’s days of skipping school and getting in trouble in Detroit have been replaced by shoveling muck and trying not to get stomped on. At first, all Cole can think about is how to ditch these ghetto cowboys and get home. But when the City threatens to shut down the stables-- and take away the horse Cole has come to think of as his own-- he knows that it’s time to step up and fight back. Inspired by the little-known urban riders of Philly and Brooklyn, this compelling tale of latter -day cowboy justice champions a world where your friends always have your back, especially when the chips are down.

Book excerpt: If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor Here we are together in the digital universe. Somehow, you've clicked yourself to this page. If you came here of your own free will and desire, you and I are going to get along just fine. Life is full of choices. Right now, yours is whether or not to download the autobiography of a mid-grade, kind of hammy actor. Am I supposed to know this guy? you think to yourself. No-and that's exactly the point. You can download a terabyte of books about famous actors and their high-falootin' shenanigans. I don't want to be a spoilsport, but we've all been down that road before. Scroll down to that Judy Garland biography. You know plenty about her already-great voice, troubled life. Scroll down a little further to the Charlton Heston book. Same deal. You know his story too-great voice, troubled toupee. The truth is that though you might not have a clue who I am-unless you watch cable very late at night-there are countless working stiffs like me out there, grinding away every day at the wheel of fortune. If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor documents my time in blue-collar Hollywood, where movies are cheap, the hours are long, and the filmmaking process can be very personal. To keep up with the times, I've digitized Chins. It was originally published in hardcover/analog fifteen years ago, which is a vast amount of time in the evolution of books and technology, and it was time to get current. The advance of technology is great for a book like this, which is jammed full of pictures. When it came out originally, the photographs all had to be black and white and moderately sized on the page. Now, any photo that was originally taken in color can strut its stuff. Overall, the resolution of the images is off-the-charts better than the first go-around. This is one "sequel" that I'm happy to be a part of, since we could make so many technical improvements. The process was very similar to restoring an old movie. Since I knew that it was going to be reissued, I also had a look at the story being told and decided to condense, move, or clarify some chapters, all or in part. I also tried to add a hint of historical context, since it has been a decade and a half since Chins first came out. I hope you enjoy it. Regards, Bruce Campbell

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harry Arthur Gant lived at the intersection of the Old West and the New West. He was a cowboy during the 1890s. He saw at first hand the hard work, the hard fun, and the occasional violence of that place and time. He knew cattle barons and horse thieves, con men and hustlers. As civilization spread through the Old West, he worked with the Wild West Shows that helped perpetuate the legends of that country. He was a guy who could get things done. When the first film makers came around, he soon became indispensable to them, and then followed them to the New West. With a new set of skills in the silent film era, he helped perpetuate the new form of legend that came out of Hollywood. He knew stars and extras, more con men and hustlers, movers and shakers. He tells his story with a distinctive mix of Old West plain speaking and New West sophistication, with the rough edges left on. This memoir spans two of the most fascinating parts of America's past.
