Book Synopsis Structural Concrete Textbook Vol. 1, first edition by : fib Fédération internationale du béton
Download or read book Structural Concrete Textbook Vol. 1, first edition written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of reinforced and prestressed concrete during the last 50 years was highly promoted by the ”Comité Euro-international du Béton (CEB)“ and the ”Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte (FIP)“. In 1998 these two associations merged, forming the ”Fédération Internationale du Béton (fib)“. The results of CEB and FIP had been distributed in different ways, such as 'CEB Bulletins d'Information', FIP–Reports, FIP–Notes and CEB–News. These Bulletins or reports comprised various kinds of information, such as State-of-the-Art-Reports, Research Reports, Application Manuals, Guides to Good Practice and the CEB/FIP Model Codes 1978 and 1990. These Model Codes provided design principles and application rules to the structural engineering profession and have been predominantly used for code drafting by many national and international standardizing bodies. The Textbook on Structural Concrete is now intended to provide background information and justification especially for the CEB/FIP Model Code 90 and in some fields of recently extended knowledge. It is addressed to advanced students: this means that basic information on structural analysis and behaviour of structural concrete is a required prerequisite. Practising structural engineers may utilize it for gaining background information on the CEB/FIP Model Code 90 (and national or regional codes as for ex. EUROCODE 2, based on MC 90). The Textbook is also conceived to assist teachers at technical universities or engineering schools to achieve better understanding of the recent theories on structural concrete. Having these targets in mind the General Assembly of CEB decided already in 1995 to set-up a Special Activity Group ”Dissemination of Knowledge“ to realise that work. The authors invited to draft the different chapters had been mostly involved already in drafting the Model Code 90. In this way consistent information could be provided, both for the code and the textbook. Each chapter has been thoroughly discussed and commented within the Special Activity Group 2. This textbook was first presented to fib members during the Technical Activity Workshop in October 1999 in Prague, held in connection with the first fib symposium. The authors are looking forward to receiving comments from various corners.

Download or read book fib Model Code for Concrete Structures 2010 written by fib - federation internationale du beton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib) is a pre-normative organization. 'Pre-normative' implies pioneering work in codification. This work has now been realized with the fib Model Code 2010. The objectives of the fib Model Code 2010 are to serve as a basis for future codes for concrete structures, and present new developments with regard to concrete structures, structural materials and new ideas in order to achieve optimum behaviour. The fib Model Code 2010 is now the most comprehensive code on concrete structures, including their complete life cycle: conceptual design, dimensioning, construction, conservation and dismantlement. It is expected to become an important document for both national and international code committees, practitioners and researchers. The fib Model Code 2010 was produced during the last ten years through an exceptional effort by Joost Walraven (Convener; Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands), Agnieszka Bigaj-van Vliet (Technical Secretary; TNO Built Environment and Geosciences, The Netherlands) as well as experts out of 44 countries from five continents.

Download or read book Concrete City written by Armelle Choplin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-01 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CONCRETE CITY “Armelle Choplin’s Concrete City weaves a novel and engaging analysis of urbanization by tracing the journeys of cement and people making urban life in West Africa. From post-independence high modernist ambitions to building the opportunities to make a living, the emerging transnational corridor along the West African coast provides a starting point for insights which will expand and inform understanding of both established and newly emerging urbanization processes in many different contexts.” —Jennifer Robinson, Professor of Geography, University College of London, UK “In this very innovative and superbly illustrated book, Armelle Choplin makes cement vibrant with affect, politics, economic interests and cultural meanings. She takes us to a fascinating journey along the West African urban corridor following the social life of concrete and showing how this material shapes contemporary urbanization and everyday life.” —Ola Söderström, Professor of Geography, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland Concrete City: Material Flows and Urbanization in West Africa delivers a theoretically informed, ethnographic exploration of the African urban world through the life of concrete. Emblematic of frenetic urban and capitalistic development, this material is pervasive, shaping contemporary urban landscapes and societies and their links to the global world. It stands and circulates at the heart of major financial investments, political forces and environmental debates. At the same time, it epitomises values of modernity and success, redefining social practices, forms of dwelling and living, and popular imaginaries. The book invites the reader to follow bags of cement from production plant to construction site, along the 1000-kilometre urban corridor that links Abidjan to Accra, Lomé, Cotonou and Lagos, combining the perspectives of cement tycoons, entrepreneurs and political stakeholders, but also of ordinary men and women who plan, build and dream of the Concrete City. With this innovative exploration of urban life through concrete, Armelle Choplin delivers a fascinating journey into and reflection on the sustainability of our urban futures.

Book excerpt: International phenomenon Angie Thomas revisits Garden Heights seventeen years before the events of The Hate U Give in this searing and poignant exploration of Black boyhood and manhood. A Printz Honor Book! If there’s one thing seventeen-year-old Maverick Carter knows, it’s that a real man takes care of his family. As the son of a former gang legend, Mav does that the only way he knows how: dealing for the King Lords. With this money he can help his mom, who works two jobs while his dad’s in prison. Life’s not perfect, but with a fly girlfriend and a cousin who always has his back, Mav’s got everything under control. Until, that is, Maverick finds out he’s a father. Suddenly he has a baby, Seven, who depends on him for everything. But it’s not so easy to sling dope, finish school, and raise a child. So when he’s offered the chance to go straight, he takes it. In a world where he’s expected to amount to nothing, maybe Mav can prove he’s different. When King Lord blood runs through your veins, though, you can't just walk away. Loyalty, revenge, and responsibility threaten to tear Mav apart, especially after the brutal murder of a loved one. He’ll have to figure out for himself what it really means to be a man.
