Book excerpt: This dissertation examines the impact of international institutions on women's rights policies by focusing on the European Union (EU) as a case study in order to illustrate the influence and the ways in which international factors affect women's right as a global policy concern. The principle proposition of this study is that beyond states, institutions are autonomous agents that influence policy outcomes often against member states' preferences.

Download or read book A Creeping Transformation? written by Michael W. Bauer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we approach the Commission's role as co-manager of policy implementation? Why should we expect the Commission to be pulled into domestic policy execution and to accumulate something like an implementation management capacity? How should we conceptualise the Commission's linkage with post-decision management issues? Finally, how does the Commission's involvement in the application of EU policies, if any, significantly change everything? Such questions are answered in this study, which is concerned with what may be called the implementation management capacity of the European Commission. Simply put, this is the role the Commission plays in the implementation of large-scale European spending programmes. While it is true that the Commission's predominant prerogatives are to draft legislation and facilitate bargaining, it also has a role in post-decision policy management. This role is of increasing importance for the emerging governance of the European Union. Readership: social scientists, journalists and all those interested in the role of the European Commission in shaping EU policies.
Book Synopsis Connecting People with Jobs Impact Evaluation of Ireland’s Active Labour Market Policies by : OECD
Download or read book Connecting People with Jobs Impact Evaluation of Ireland’s Active Labour Market Policies written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2024-03-13 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report analyses the sequence of labour market support that individuals receive and evaluates two large public works programmes. It uses rich administrative data and finds positive labour market impacts of the Community Employment and Tús employment programmes. Building on the results of the analyses, the report makes recommendations on how Ireland can further adapt its active labour market policies (ALMPs) to better support its current and future jobseekers. This report on Ireland is the thirteenth country study published in a series of reports on policies to connect people with jobs, and is part of a joint project with the European Commission to strengthen countries’ capacity to evaluate ALMPs. The report is written jointly by the OECD, the Department of Social Protection of Ireland and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.
