This book was released on 2003 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer assisted exercises have developed over the last ten years into the most cost-effective method to perform collective headquarters training in NATO. Considerable advance has been made to support the concept of "train as you fight or operate" by achieving close integration between simulation environments and command and control information systems. Key factors for the success of CAXes are the selected simulation, the level of training and competence of exercise planners and support personnel and the ability to mediate effectively between simulation and CCIS used by the exercising headquarters. For operational level exercises, the Joint Theater Level Simulation was selected as the preferred exercise driver. Effective methods for exercise planner training and simulation data base development have been developed combining clearly defined organisational concepts and tools. The methods of training have been refined but remain manpower intensive. Exercise management has been addressed more recently and is showing great potential for effective formalisation and support. Based on current practice and technological investigations, future avenues that will contribute significantly to this field are simulation composability through interoperability, advanced distributed learning and highly flexible data collection and analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Computer Assisted Learning contains selected proceedings from the CAL Symposium on Computer Assisted Learning held at the University of Nottingham in the UK in 1985. This book reviews advances in computer-assisted learning in the areas of curriculum development, visually handicapped and disabled students, project work in schools, television, viewdata and video applications, database applications, and engineering education and training. This monograph has 35 chapters and opens with a discussion on the computing aspects of interactive video, focusing on the design and production of the software used to control the videodisc developed by the Open University in the UK. The next chapter illustrates a variety of case studies whereby local viewdata has been exploited by both teachers and their pupils in different parts of Europe. Attention then turns to the use of computer-assisted communication in the education of the visually impaired; the use of microcomputers in teaching electronics; and theoretical considerations in selecting software for language arts. This text will be of interest to educators and policymakers who want to implement computer technology in the classroom.

Book excerpt: This is a scanned copy of a thesis successfully submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Psychology, University of Hull, U.K. in 1987. We learn language by using it. Interaction with others through language is essential for normal language development. Children with delayed or impaired language may therefore benefit from additional experience of interacting through language in structured situations. This thesis explores how computers might help provide this experience. It reports a project in which programs were developed to hold written dialogues about screen objects, and observed in use by deaf and other language-impaired children. This version is published through www.lulu.com who should be able to supply it at the best price, and from where it can also be downloaded more cheaply in electronic form.
