Book Synopsis Mesh Generation and Adaptation by : Rubén Sevilla
Download or read book Mesh Generation and Adaptation written by Rubén Sevilla and published by Springer. This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The developments in mesh generation are usually driven by the needs of new applications and/or novel algorithms. The last decade has seen a renewed interest in mesh generation and adaptation by the computational engineering community, due to the challenges introduced by complex industrial problems.Another common challenge is the need to handle complex geometries. Nowadays, it is becoming obvious that geometry should be persistent throughout the whole simulation process. Several methodologies that can carry the geometric information throughout the simulation stage are available, but due to the novelty of these methods, the generation of suitable meshes for these techniques is still the main obstacle for the industrial uptake of this technology. This book will cover different aspects of mesh generation and adaptation, with particular emphasis on cutting-edge mesh generation techniques for advanced discretisation methods and complex geometries.

Book Synopsis Adaptive Mesh Refinement - Theory and Applications by : Tomasz Plewa
Download or read book Adaptive Mesh Refinement - Theory and Applications written by Tomasz Plewa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-20 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced numerical simulations that use adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) methods have now become routine in engineering and science. Originally developed for computational fluid dynamics applications these methods have propagated to fields as diverse as astrophysics, climate modeling, combustion, biophysics and many others. The underlying physical models and equations used in these disciplines are rather different, yet algorithmic and implementation issues facing practitioners are often remarkably similar. Unfortunately, there has been little effort to review the advances and outstanding issues of adaptive mesh refinement methods across such a variety of fields. This book attempts to bridge this gap. The book presents a collection of papers by experts in the field of AMR who analyze past advances in the field and evaluate the current state of adaptive mesh refinement methods in scientific computing.

Book Synopsis Meshing, Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation, Volume 2 by : Paul Louis George
Download or read book Meshing, Geometric Modeling and Numerical Simulation, Volume 2 written by Paul Louis George and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triangulations, and more precisely meshes, are at the heart of many problems relating to a wide variety of scientific disciplines, and in particular numerical simulations of all kinds of physical phenomena. In numerical simulations, the functional spaces of approximation used to search for solutions are defined from meshes, and in this sense these meshes play a fundamental role. This strong link between meshes and functional spaces leads us to consider advanced simulation methods in which the meshes are adapted to the behaviors of the underlying physical phenomena. This book presents the basic elements of this vision of meshing. These mesh adaptations are generally governed by a posteriori error estimators representing an increase of the error with respect to a size or metric. Independently of this metric of calculation, compliance with a geometry can also be calculated using a so-called geometric metric. The notion of mesh thus finds its meaning in the metric of its elements.
Book Synopsis Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Differential Equations by : Wolfgang Bangerth
Download or read book Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Differential Equations written by Wolfgang Bangerth and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Lecture Notes have been compiled from the material presented by the second author in a lecture series ('Nachdiplomvorlesung') at the Department of Mathematics of the ETH Zurich during the summer term 2002. Concepts of 'self adaptivity' in the numerical solution of differential equations are discussed with emphasis on Galerkin finite element methods. The key issues are a posteriori er ror estimation and automatic mesh adaptation. Besides the traditional approach of energy-norm error control, a new duality-based technique, the Dual Weighted Residual method (or shortly D WR method) for goal-oriented error estimation is discussed in detail. This method aims at economical computation of arbitrary quantities of physical interest by properly adapting the computational mesh. This is typically required in the design cycles of technical applications. For example, the drag coefficient of a body immersed in a viscous flow is computed, then it is minimized by varying certain control parameters, and finally the stability of the resulting flow is investigated by solving an eigenvalue problem. 'Goal-oriented' adaptivity is designed to achieve these tasks with minimal cost. The basics of the DWR method and various of its applications are described in the following survey articles: R. Rannacher [114], Error control in finite element computations. In: Proc. of Summer School Error Control and Adaptivity in Scientific Computing (H. Bulgak and C. Zenger, eds), pp. 247-278. Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1998. M. Braack and R. Rannacher [42], Adaptive finite element methods for low Mach-number flows with chemical reactions.
Book Synopsis Modeling, Mesh Generation, and Adaptive Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations by : Ivo Babuska
Download or read book Modeling, Mesh Generation, and Adaptive Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by Ivo Babuska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With considerations such as complex-dimensional geometries and nonlinearity, the computational solution of partial differential systems has become so involved that it is important to automate decisions that have been normally left to the individual. This book covers such decisions: 1) mesh generation with links to the software generating the domain geometry, 2) solution accuracy and reliability with mesh selection linked to solution generation. This book is suited for mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers and is intended to encourage interdisciplinary interaction between the diverse groups.

Download or read book Adaptive Mesh Refinement for Time-domain Numerical Electromagnetics written by Costas D. Sarris and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Therefore, they are excellent computer analysis and design (CAD) tools. The book starts by introducing the FDTD technique, along with challenges related to its application to the analysis of real-life microwave and optical structures. It then proceeds to developing an adaptive mesh refinement method based on the use of multiresolution analysis and, more specifically, the Haar wavelet basis. Furthermore, a new method to embed a moving adaptive mesh in FDTD, the dynamically adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) FDTD technique, is introduced and explained in detail. To highlight the properties of the theoretical tools developed in the text, a number of applications are presented, including: Microwave integrated circuits (microstrip filters, couplers, spiral inductors, cavities); Optical power splitters, Y-junctions, and couplers; Optical ring resonators; Nonlinear optical waveguides.
