Book Synopsis Inverse Solutions for Laminar Boundary-layer Flows with Separation and Reattachment by : James Edward Carter

This book was released on 1975 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical solutions of the laminar, incompressible boundary-layer equations are presented for flows involving separation and reattachment. Regular solutions are obtained with an inverse approach in which either the displacement thickness or the skin friction is specified; the pressure is deduced from the solution. A vorticity--stream-function formulation of the boundary-layer equations is used to eliminate the unknown pressure. Solutions of the resulting finite-difference equations, in which the flow direction is taken into account, are obtained by several global iteration schemes which are stable and have unconditional diagonal dominance. Results are compared with Klineberg and Steger's separated boundary-layer calculations, and with Briley's solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for a separated region. In addition, an approximate technique is presented in which the streamwise convection of vorticity is set equal to zero in the reversed flow region; such a technique results in a quick forward-marching procedure for separated flows.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IUTAM Symposium on Boundary-Layer Separation, suggested by the UK National Committee of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and supported by the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, was held at University College London on August 26-28, 1986. The proposed theme and scope of the Symposium were designed to help to bring about the necessary interaction between experimentalists, computationalists and theoreticians for the furthering of understanding in this challenging subject. The talks and discussions were aimed at representing the very wide range and application of separating-flow phenomena, which often substantially affect the whole of fluid dynamics at medium to large Reynolds numbers, covering in particular both laminar and turbulent flow, steady or unsteady, two- or three-dimensional, small or large-scale, incompressible or compressible, external or internal, from the experimental, computational and theoretical standpoints. It was intended that about 80 scientists would participate in the Symposium, with about 25 talks being delivered, to which poster sessions with 8 contributions were added subsequently. All the speakers and poster presenters were selected by the scientific committee, although two late replacements of speakers were required. Fruitful discussions, well led by the session chairmen, took place formally after each talk and after the poster sessions and informally on other occasions including the social events. The present proceedings of the Symposium appear to reflect much of the current state of experimental, computational and theoretical work and progress in boundary-layer separation. We hope that they provide also ideas, questions and stimulation, in addition to major recent developments.
Book Synopsis Two-Dimensional Separated Flows by : S. M. Belotserkovsky
Download or read book Two-Dimensional Separated Flows written by S. M. Belotserkovsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-11-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-Dimensional Separated Flows provides a systematic presentation of the theory of separated flow around bodies. The main classes of aerodynamic problems of plane-parallel flow around bodies are described, and the steady aerodynamic, unsteady aerodynamic, and statistical characteristics of a trailing wake are determined. Numerical methods based on the synthesis of models for non-viscous incompressible flow and boundary layer, algorithms, examples, and systematic comparisons are presented. The book also includes numerical results for the problem of separated flow around fixed, oscillating, and rotating cylinders, in addition to results for separated flow around an aerofoil over a wide range of angles. Two-Dimensional Separated Flows will benefit researchers and students studying aerodynamics, aircraft dynamics, aeroelasticity, and the aerodynamics of building structures.
Book Synopsis A Finite Difference Method for Computing Unsteady, Incompressible, Laminar Boundary-layer Flows by : Charles Luh-Sun Farn

This book was released on 1966 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A finite difference method for computing velocity and temperature profiles of an unsteady, incompressible, laminar boundary layer around a two-dimensional cylinder of arbitrary cross section is developed. Blowing or suction may be present on the wall of the cylinder. The thermal boundary condition at the wall may be either specified wall temperature or specified heat flux at the wall. The governing finite difference equations are explicit, the velocity and the temperature at the next time step can be directly computed in terms of those at the current time step. Various errors associated with the finite difference method are studied. Great effort has been made to derive the stability and convergence conditions of the method. The upper bound of the local rounding errors is estimated. Two examples, one oscillation in Blasius flow and the other impulsive start of wedge flow, are given; the numerical results are compared with the existing analytical and experimental results. It is concluded that the present method can be used for the aforementioned computation with high accuracy except at and near a singular point where the singular errors become significant. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iterative finite-difference techniques are developed for integrating the boundary-layer equations, without approximation, through a region of reversed flow. The numerical procedures are used to calculate incompressible laminar separated flows and to investigate the conditions for regular behavior at the point of separation. Regular flows are shown to be characterized by an integrable saddle-type singularity that makes it difficult to obtain numerical solutions which pass continuously into the separated region. The singularity is removed and continuous solutions ensured by specifying the wall shear distribution and computing the pressure gradient as part of the solution. Calculated results are presented for several separated flows and the accuracy of the method is verified. A computer program listing and complete solution case are included.
Book Synopsis Unsteady Laminar Flow by : K. C. Wang
Download or read book Unsteady Laminar Flow written by K. C. Wang and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was aimed at developing the methodology for computing unsteady laminar boundary layers with flow reversal and establishing a new unsteady separation criterion. The calculation of two-dimensional, unsteady boundary layers based strictly on the analogy with the steady, three-dimensional problems has been completed. The results demonstrated the validity of the proposed unsteady separation criterion. As a prelude to understanding the full, three-dimensional, unsteady problem, this report also treated an unsteady symmetry-plane boundary layer. Initial test calculations were successful, but the bulk of the computation remains to be carried out.

Download or read book Separated Flows and Jets written by Victor V. Kozlov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 907 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separated flows and jets are closely linked in a variety of applications. They are of great importance in various fields of fluid mechanics including vehicle efficiency, technical branches concerned with gas/liquid flows, atmospheric effects on various constructions, etc. Knowledge of the physics of separated flows and jets and the development of reliable control techniques are prerequisite for future progress in the field. These aspects were in focus during the IUTAM-Symposium which was held in Novosibirsk, 9-13 July, 1990. This volume contains a selection of papers presenting recent results of theoretical and numerical studies as well as experimental work on separated flows and jets. The topics include sub- and supersonic, laminar and turbulent separation as well as organized structures in separated flows and jets. The reader will find here the state of the art and major trends for research in this field of aero-hydrodynamics.
