Book Synopsis Advanced IT Tools by : Nobuyoshi Terashima
Download or read book Advanced IT Tools written by Nobuyoshi Terashima and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-18 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRACK 1: Innovative Applications in the Public Sector The integration of multimedia based applications and the information superhighway fundamentally concerns the creation of a communication technology to support the ac tivities of people. Communication is a profoundly social activity involving interactions among groups or individuals, common standards of exchange, and national infrastruc tures to support telecommunications activities. The contributions of the invited speakers and others in this track begin to explore the social dimension of communication within the context of integrated, information systems for the public sector. Interactions among businesses and households are described by Ralf Strauss through the development within a real community of a "wired city" with information and electronic services provided by the latest telecommunications technologies. A more specific type of interaction between teacher and student forms the basis of education. John Tiffin demonstrates how virtual classrooms can be used to augment the educational process. Carl Loeffler presents yet another perspective on interaction through the integration of A-life and agent technologies to investigate the dynamics of complex behaviors within networked simulation environments. Common standards for communication in the form of electronic documents or CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work), according to Roland Traunmiiller, provide en abling technologies for a paradigm shift in the management of organizations. As pointed out by William Olle, the impact of standardization work on the future of information technology depends critically upon the interoperability of software systems.

Book Synopsis Software Engineering with Computational Intelligence by : Jonathan Lee
Download or read book Software Engineering with Computational Intelligence written by Jonathan Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not an exaggeration to view Professor Lee's book," Software Engineer ing with Computational Intelligence," or SECI for short, as a pioneering contribution to software engineering. Breaking with the tradition of treat ing uncertainty, imprecision, fuzziness and vagueness as issues of peripheral importance, SECI moves them much closer to the center of the stage. It is ob vious, though still not widely accepted, that this is where these issues should be, since the real world is much too complex and much too ill-defined to lend itself to categorical analysis in the Cartesian spirit. As its title suggests, SECI employs the machineries of computational intel ligence (CI) and, more or less equivalently, soft computing (SC), to deal with the foundations and principal issues in software engineering. Basically, CI and SC are consortia of methodologies which collectively provide a body of con cepts and techniques for conception, design, construction and utilization of intelligent systems. The principal constituents of CI and SC are fuzzy logic, neurocomputing, evolutionary computing, probabilistic computing, chaotic computing and machine learning. The leitmotif of CI and SC is that, in general, better performance can be achieved by employing the constituent methodologies of CI and SC in combination rat her than in a stand-alone mode. In what follows, I will take the liberty of focusing my attention on fuzzy logic and fuzzy set theory, and on their roles in software engineering. But first, a couple of points of semantics which are in need of clarification.

Book Synopsis Model-Based Testing of Reactive Systems by : Manfred Broy
Download or read book Model-Based Testing of Reactive Systems written by Manfred Broy and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-07-11 with total page 646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Testing is the primary hardware and software verification technique used by industry today. Usually, it is ad hoc, error prone, and very expensive. In recent years, however, many attempts have been made to develop more sophisticated formal testing methods. This coherent book provides an in-depth assessment of this emerging field, focusing on formal testing of reactive systems. This book is based on a seminar held in Dagstuhl Castle, Germany, in January 2004. It presents 19 carefully reviewed and revised lectures given at the seminar in a well-balanced way ensuring competent complementary coverage of all relevant aspects. An appendix provides a glossary for model-based testing and basics on finite state machines and on labelled transition systems. The lectures are presented in topical sections on testing of finite state machines, testing of labelled transition systems, model-based test case generation, tools and case studies, standardized test notation and execution architectures, and beyond testing.
