Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Physical Testing of Paper by : Richard E. Mark
Download or read book Handbook of Physical Testing of Paper written by Richard E. Mark and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 1062 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientists from academic and the paper industry compile as many aspects of testing properties of paper as possible into a broad reference to help people who plan, specify, and evaluate the physical and mechanical testing of paper material take advantage of the many developments in recent years. An initial essay in each volume discusses the independent invention and widespread use of paper in Mesoamerica beginning sometime before AD 660. The two volumes are paged and indexed separately, but do not seem to be topically distinct. The first edition, Handbook of Physical and Mechanical Testing of Paper and Paperboard appeared in 1983; the second contains 30 chapters, a third of which are new and the others substantially revised, updated, and expanded. c. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of tribology deals with the design, friction, wear and lubrication of interacting surfaces in relative motion. Polymer nanocomposite materials are increasingly common and offer remarkable improvements in the friction and wear properties of both bulk materials and coatings. This book gives a comprehensive description of polymeric nanocomposites, both as bulk materials and as thin surface coatings, and their behavior and potential use in tribological applications. It provides the preparation techniques, friction and wear mechanisms, properties of polymeric nanocomposites, characterization, evaluation and selection methodology. It also provides various examples of application of polymeric nanocomposites. - Provides a complete reference from the preparation to the selection of polymeric nanocomposites - Explains the theory through examples of real-world applications - More than 20 international tribology experts contribute to their area of expertise
Book Synopsis Reinforced Polymer Matrix Syntactic Foams by : Nikhil Gupta
Download or read book Reinforced Polymer Matrix Syntactic Foams written by Nikhil Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-21 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinforced Syntactic Foams: Effect of Nano and Micro-Scale Reinforcement examines the fabrication processes, mechanism of reinforcement, and structure-property correlations of reinforced syntactic foams. The authors present the state of the art in this field, compare the properties of various types of syntactic foam systems comprising different matrix, hollow particle, and reinforcement materials. The book further identifies theories useful in predicting the properties of reinforced syntactic foams and conducting parametric studies to understand the possibility for tailoring their properties.

Book Synopsis Effect of Mortar Properties on Strength of Masonry by : Cyrus Charles Fishburn
Download or read book Effect of Mortar Properties on Strength of Masonry written by Cyrus Charles Fishburn and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physical properties of mortars, the bond strength of the mortars to masonry units, and the structural strength of concrete masonry and composite masonry walls containing the mortars are discussed and compared. All of the mortars were tempered to as wet a consistency as could be conveniently handled by the mason. The compressive strength of the walls increased, in general, with the compressive strength of the mortar. The racking and flexural strengths of the walls increased with the bond strength of the mortar. The strength of bond test specimens tended to increase with the compressive strength of the wet consistency mortars that were used. However, bond strength appeared to be the dominant factor affecting the racking and flexural strength of the walls. Increase in both bond strength and wall strength with compressive strength of the mortar was not proportional to the relative compressive strengths of the type N and type S mortars. The stiffness of walls subjected to compressive and flexural loads increased with the bond and compressive strength of the mortars. However, the stiffness of walls subjected to flexural loads appeared to be more dependent upon the number of bed joints in the tensile face and on their extension in bond than upon the bending strains in the masonry materials.

Book Synopsis Analysis of the mechanical performance of pin-reinforced sandwich structures by : Mohamed Adli Dimassi
Download or read book Analysis of the mechanical performance of pin-reinforced sandwich structures written by Mohamed Adli Dimassi and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rising demand to reduce fuel consumption and the continuous increase of materials and manufacturing costs has obliged aircraft manufacturers to boost the use of composite materials and to optimise the manufacturing methods. Foam core sandwich structures combine the advantages of high bending properties with low manufacturing costs when liquid composite processes are used. However, the use of foam core sandwich structures is not widespread in aircraft applications due to the better weight-specific performance of honeycomb cores and the susceptibility to impact loading. In this context, pin reinforcements are added to the foam core to improve its mechanical properties and its damage tolerance. This work contributes to the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of pin-reinforced foam core sandwich structures under static and impact loading. Ultrasonic scan and micro-computed tomography are used to identify the different damage modes. The effect of very low temperature on the damage behaviour under impact loading is investigated. An explicit simulation model to predict the impact response of pin-reinforced foam core sandwich structures is also proposed.
