Esta incapacidad se puede dar en el lenguaje expresivo (trastorno expresivo del lenguaje, segun DSM IV), con lo cual, se afecta la produccion en sus diferentes niveles: fonologico, semantico y morfosintactico. Tambien, se puede presentar en el lenguaje expresivo y comprensivo (trastorno mixto del lenguaje, segun el DSM IV). No obstante, es necesario senalar que la comprension de los ninos con Trastorno Especifico del Lenguaje (TEL) solo es medida en los aspectos literales del significado (con instrumentos estructurados) sin evaluar otros aspectos de la comprension que estan relacionados con factores pragmaticos y contextuales, lo que supone una vision restringida del campo. Por este motivo, este trabajo propone observar que ocurre con la comprension de dichos ninos cuando el significado no es literal."
