This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " " Language is one of the highest forms of expression. It acts as the medium to make our ideas, thoughts and feelings understood and appreciated. Like art, language can touch the heart and inspire the soul. And, at the heart and soul of a language, lies its grammar. Grammar helps the learners build a firm foundation for using the language. It is, therefore, very important for learners to develop the grammar skills that they need in order to express themselves meaningfully and creatively. Step-up English Grammar and Composition 1-8 is an NEP-aligned, carefully-graded grammar series developed to address the need of a systematic and step-wise strategy for understanding grammar. The series is based on the eclectic approach to language acquisition and presents a smooth blend of the inductive as well as the deductive method of teaching and learning the language. Each concept has been covered in detail, and great care has been taken to offer the relevant core concepts for the learners at each level. Last but not least, the utmost care has been taken to encapsulate in the series the key parameters laid down in National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP places the learner at the heart of the teaching-learning process. In recent years, there has been a paradigm shift towards designing a learner-centric curriculum that is based on an activity-based approach. There is also an equal emphasis on equipping young learners with essential twenty-first-century skills. The text as well as the activities in the book promote the holistic development of the learners. Besides, there is a lot of emphasis on enhancing the creativity, critical thinking, and communication and collaboration skills of learners. Salient Features of the Book • A conscious effort has been made to incorporate the major NEP specifications. • Simple, clear and detailed explanations of essential grammatical concepts have been given. • Explanations are followed by ample examples and a variety of well-graded exercises to reinforce the concepts. • Simple and clear instructions have been given in the exercises for easy understanding. • Fun-based, art-integrated exercises, together with a wide range of activities like grids and puzzles, have been used to bring the joy of learning to the classroom. • There is also a great emphasis on building cross-curricular, grade-appropriate vocabulary through exercises and comprehension. • Speaking activities have been made a part of the grammar exercises to instil more confidence in the learners. • All the explanations and exercises have been coupled with learner-friendly layout and illustrations for additional support. • Test papers have been introduced periodically to check if the learners have grasped the concepts. • Teacher's Resource Books comprise lessons plans, additional activities and teaching guidelines along with the answer key for each book. They are meant to serve as a handy aid for teachers and facilitate a wholesome teaching-learning experience. We hope this series caters to the requirements of the teachers as well as the students and meets our expectations in serving as a guide to the next generation of global citizens. While every possible effort has been made to avoid errors and omissions, any constructive suggestions for the improvement of the series will be welcomed and incorporated in future editions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Musicology, having been transmitted as a compilation of disparate events and disciplines, has long necessitated a 'magic bullet', a 'unified field theory' so to speak, that can interpret the steady metamorphosis of Western art music from late medieval modality to twentieth-century atonality within a single theoretical construct. Without that magic bullet, discussions of this kind are increasingly complicated and, to make matters worse, the validity of any transformational models and ideas of the natural evolution of styles is questioned and even frowned upon today as epitomizing a grotesque teleological bigotry. Going against current thinking, Henry Burnett and Roy Nitzberg claim that the teleological approach to observing stylistic change is still valid when considered from the purely compositional perspective. The authors challenge the traditional understanding of development, and advance a new theory of eleven-pitch tonality as it relates to the corpus of Western composition. The book plots the evolution of tonality and its bearing on style and the compositional process itself. The theory is not based on the diatonic aspect of the various tonal systems exploited by composers; rather, the theory is chromatically based - the chromatically inflected octave being the source not only of a highly ingenious developmental dialectic, but also encompassing the moment-to-moment progression of the musical narrative itself. Even the most profound teachings of Schenker, and the often startlingly original and worthwhile speculations of Riemann, Tovey, Dahlhaus and others, still provide no theory of development and so are ultimately unable to unite the various tendrils of the compositional organism into a unified whole. Burnett and Nitzberg move beyond existing theory and analysis to base their theory from the standpoint of chromatic 'pitch fields'. These fields are the specific chromatic pitch choices that a composer uses to inform and design a complete composition, utilizing

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invasive software composition as a new, component-based way to construct software systems is presented. To improve reuse, this method regards software components as greybox and integrates them during composition. Components are distinct in design, but are merged in implementations, leading to highly integrated and more efficient systems. Building on a minimal set of program transformations, composition operator libraries can be developed that parameterize, extend, connect, mediate, and aspect-weave components. Invasive software composition unifies several software engineering techniques such as generic programming, architecture systems, inheritance, and aspect-oriented programming. The book is centered around the JAVA language and a freely available demonstrator library called COMPOST. The book provides a wealth of material for researchers, students and professional software architects alike.

The way we interact with our fellow humans is very often based on the language that always surrounds us, whether it be the messages we send, the news we read, or the assignments we complete in classes that give us the education intended to lead us to success. What might be the best way to navigate the complexity of language, especially in a first-year composition course? This book addresses these issues by presenting lessons, examples, and student samples through an approach that is friendly, conversational, and realistic. Created by actual instructors of composition at HCC, this book includes many resources to guide composition students of different skill levels: • In-depth overviews of reading, writing, and revising • Engaging exercises that anticipate and address the most common errors of writers • Actual student samples that provide the basis of class discussions and analysis With guidance that includes both theory and practice, Composition and Grammar for HCC by HCC provides students with the skills they need for their educational goals, their careers, and their lives.

The Mad Scientist’s Guide covers the kinds of writing most often required on college campuses, while also addressing important steps and activities frequently overlooked in composition guides, such as revision and peer reviewing. Actual examples of student writing are included throughout, as are helpful reminders and tips to help students polish their skills. Above all, the Mad Scientist’s Guide seeks to make writing fun.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early transformation of European music practice and theory in the cultural centers of Asia, Latin America, and Africa around 1900, it has become necessary for music history to be conceived globally - a challenge that musicology has hardly faced yet. This book discusses the effects of cultural globalization on processes of composition and distribution of art music in the 20th and 21st century. Christian Utz provides the foundations of a global music historiography, building on new models such as transnationalism, entangled histories, and reflexive globalization. The relationship between music and broader changes in society forms the central focus and is treated as a pivotal music-historical dynamic.
