Book excerpt: The growth of technology for chemical assessment has led to great developments in the investigation of chemical reactivity in recent years, but key information is often dispersed across many different research fields. Combining both original principles and the cutting-edge theories used in chemical reactivity analysis, Chemical Reactivity, Volume 1 present the latest developments in theoretical chemistry and its application for the assessment of chemical processes.Beginning with an exploration of different theories and principles relating to electronic structure and reactivity of confined electronic systems, the book goes on to highlight key information on such topics as Dyson orbitals, target-ion overlaps, reaction fragility, magnetizability principles and the Fuki function. Density Functional Theory is discussed in relation to numerous different principles and approaches, with further information on constrained methods and diabatic models, bonding evolution theory, orbital-based population analysis models and charge transfer models, and Quantum chemistry and QTAIM.Consolidating the knowledge of a global team of experts in the field, Chemical Reactivity, Volume 1: Theories and Principles is a useful resource for both students and researchers interested in gaining greater understanding of the principles and theories underpinning chemical reactivity analysis. - Provides readers with the key information needed to gain a good overview of contemporary chemical reactivity studies and a clear understanding of the theory behind state-of-the-art methods in the field - Highlights advances in the computational descriptions of reactivity, including reactivity in confined environments, conceptual density functional theory, and multi-reference quantum chemistry - Provides comprehensive coverage by consolidating the knowledge of many well-known researchers in the field from around the world
Book Synopsis Quantum Mechanics via Lie Algebras by : Arnold Neumaier
Download or read book Quantum Mechanics via Lie Algebras written by Arnold Neumaier and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-10-07 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph introduces mathematicians, physicists, and engineers to the ideas relating quantum mechanics and symmetries - both described in terms of Lie algebras and Lie groups. The exposition of quantum mechanics from this point of view reveals that classical mechanics and quantum mechanics are very much alike. Written by a mathematician and a physicist, this book is (like a math book) about precise concepts and exact results in classical mechanics and quantum mechanics, but motivated and discussed (like a physics book) in terms of their physical meaning. The reader can focus on the simplicity and beauty of theoretical physics, without getting lost in a jungle of techniques for estimating or calculating quantities of interest.

Book Synopsis Modeling Materials by : Ellad B. Tadmor
Download or read book Modeling Materials written by Ellad B. Tadmor and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-24 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material properties emerge from phenomena on scales ranging from Angstroms to millimeters, and only a multiscale treatment can provide a complete understanding. Materials researchers must therefore understand fundamental concepts and techniques from different fields, and these are presented in a comprehensive and integrated fashion for the first time in this book. Incorporating continuum mechanics, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, atomistic simulations and multiscale techniques, the book explains many of the key theoretical ideas behind multiscale modeling. Classical topics are blended with new techniques to demonstrate the connections between different fields and highlight current research trends. Example applications drawn from modern research on the thermo-mechanical properties of crystalline solids are used as a unifying focus throughout the text. Together with its companion book, Continuum Mechanics and Thermodynamics (Cambridge University Press, 2011), this work presents the complete fundamentals of materials modeling for graduate students and researchers in physics, materials science, chemistry and engineering.
Book Synopsis Vibrational and Rotational Spectrometry of Diatomic Molecules by : J.F. Ogilvie
Download or read book Vibrational and Rotational Spectrometry of Diatomic Molecules written by J.F. Ogilvie and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1998-07-29 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ...Diatomic Molecules provides a systematic approach to quantitative analysis of molecular spectra of diatomic molecules, in particular infrared and Raman spectra. This analysis is used to extract precise information about not only molecular structure but also its associated electric and magnetic properties. This book is unique in its methodical treatment of the subject, and in the included collection of results and extensive bibliography. The first three chapters provide a thorough explanation of an empirical basis of infrared and Raman spectra, together with the theory behind techniques employed in their analysis. Succeeding chapters outline, among other topics, wave functions and matrix elements in relation to radial functions for potential energy, dipolar moment etc., and applications of lasers. Various methods are applied in analysis of frequency data and spectral intensities, and to effects of spin and intermolecular interaction. The many subjects are discussed in depth, with reviews of topics important in future progress of experiment and theory in molecular spectroscopy. Senior undergraduate and postgraduate students in chemistry and physics will find ..Diatomic Molecules a useful adjunct to their course texts, and it will prove invaluable to all researchers in spectroscopy.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Third Edition by : C. Julian Chen
Download or read book Introduction to Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Third Edition written by C. Julian Chen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) was invented by Binnig and Rohrer and received a Nobel Prize of Physics in 1986. Together with the atomic force microscope (AFM), it provides non-destructive atomic and subatomic resolution on surfaces. Especially, in recent years, internal details of atomic and molecular wavefunctions are observed and mapped with negligible disturbance. Since the publication of its first edition, this book has been the standard reference book and a graduate-level textbook educating several generations of nano-scientists. In Aug. 1992, the co-inventor of STM, Nobelist Heinrich Rohrer recommended: "The Introduction to Scanning tunnelling Microscopy by C.J. Chen provides a good introduction to the field for newcomers and it also contains valuable material and hints for the experts". For the second edition, a 2017 book review published in the Journal of Applied Crystallography said "Introduction to Scanning tunnelling Microscopy is an excellent book that can serve as a standard introduction for everyone that starts working with scanning probe microscopes, and a useful reference book for those more advanced in the field". The third edition is a thoroughly updated and improved version of the recognized "Bible" of the field. Additions to the third edition include: theory, method, results, and interpretations of the non-destructive observation and mapping of atomic and molecular wavefunctions; elementary theory and new verifications of equivalence of chemical bond interaction and tunnelling; scanning tunnelling spectroscopy of high Tc superconductors; imaging of self-assembled organic molecules on the solid-liquid interfaces. Some key derivations are rewritten using mathematics at an undergraduate level to make it pedagogically sound.
