Chapter 4 focuses on an examination of East Asian trade patterns with Japan and their evolution, while Chapter 5 focuses - through firm level comparisons and surveys - on patterns of FDI, in particular on production networks in the region. Regression analysis is used in Chapter 6 to test for the significance of 'strategic' behaviour by governments as a determinant of FDI.
