Book excerpt: This paper presented a comparative study of speed controller design for inverter fed indirect vector controlled induction motor drive systems with symmetric optimum (SO) and genetic algorithm (GA) based model order reduction (MOR) techniques. GA was used in this paper for a new MOR and optimal time domain tuning of a Proportional Plus Integral (PI) controller. Comparative studies showed that the new model order reduction technique performed better than the conventional symmetric optimum order reduction technique. The performance of this controller was investigated with time domain specifications such as Overshoot, rise time, and settling time using the MATLAB-SIMULINK digital simulation software package. The simulated results showed that the proposed controller was better than that of the conventional PI controller.

Book excerpt: Book relates to the speed control of an induction motor introduced intelligent methods such as Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Optimization Techniques such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) and Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithms(PSO).The results showed that the PSO-PI controller can perform with an efficient way for searching for the optimal PI controller. Comparison study among fuzzy logic, neural network, Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System, genetic algorithm, sequential quadratic programming and particle swarm optimization controllers are performed. These methods can improve the dynamic performance of the system in a better way.The PI-PSO controller is the best method based on integrated of time weight absolute error (ITAE)criteria which presented satisfactory performances and possesses good robustness (no overshoot, minimal rise time, steady state error almost to zero value). A comparison study has been done between selected methods and some other technique which showed that the proposed controller has setting time less than other methods by 40%.

This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This text book is priceless for those researchers and engineers who are enthusiastic in carrying out research in designing of speed controller of Variable Frequency Induction Motor Drives (VFIMDs) which are the vertebrae of the industrial world. The chapters in the book have considered the various Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in order to properly design and tune the speed controller for DFOC and DTC based induction motor drives. The AI based controllers have given improved dynamic response of the two VFIMDs for disturbance rejection capability, robustness and stability under various dynamic conditions. Moreover, this book has given an insight into the quantitative and qualitative comparisons of transient performance parameters of VFIMDs controlled by AI (i.e. FL, ANFIS, ANN, GA and MOGA) techniques. The comparisons of the AI based techniques with the conventional one, and those among themselves facilitate need based selection of VFIMDs for various applications. The qualitative comparison has also been carried out to highlight the pros and cons of the use of AI techniques in the designing and tuning of the speed controllers.

This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field-oriented control (FOC), also known as vector control is a very popular and effective way of driving a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor. However, the BLDC motor can also be run without any current controlling. In this thesis, this method is addressed as uncontrolled current operation, which is simply driving a BLDC motor in the absence of vector control. The characteristics and conditions for effective operation of the uncontrolled current are studied. The thesis discusses and models both vector control and uncontrolled current operation and describes a Simulink simulation building procedure for these two methods. An overall comparison is carried out between these two methods for various aspects, such as commutation accuracy, maximum torque production, handling of external delays, etc. In the analysis, it is seen that the vector control shows a better operating range, but the uncontrolled current shows better stability. The simulation shows that vector control cannot handle external hindrance (such as the computing delay of the controller) very well. On the other hand, the uncontrolled current can handle external delay better. This makes the uncontrolled current method suitable to be used in a microcontroller, as microcontrollers can be slow. Whereas, the vector control will require a very fast computer. As a potential application, the system with the uncontrolled current method is then simulated as laboratory equipment for an introductory control theory course. The model and simulation generated data shows a good match, which indicates uncontrolled current method can be used to build a low-cost introductory control theory laboratory equipment.
