Book Synopsis East Asian Business in the New World by : Shaomin Li
Download or read book East Asian Business in the New World written by Shaomin Li and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-05-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "East Asian Business in the New World" discusses how to conduct business in East Asia. The main objective of the book is to help American workers and American businesses gain competitive advantages in the global marketplace, in which the emerging Asian economies are rapidly becoming major players. The American economy appears to be on decline, especially relative to the rapidly rising economies such as China. To revitalize the American economy and those of the old world, we must pay close attention to the economies with which America competes. The objective of this book is two-fold: First, to focus opportunities and challenges of doing business in East Asia. The book will help readers understand Asian economies and business practices so that they can compete more successfully in Asia. Second, to discuss how the U.S. can learn from East Asia in revitalizing its own economy. This sets the book apart. It analyzes the social institutions in major Asian countries, including the political, economic, and cultural institutions, and compares them with the institutions in the U.S., identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. institutions, and providing strategic and policy recommendations that may help the U.S. economy and firms to compete in the global marketplace. Discuss how America and older economies can learn from AsiaProvides a theoretical framework of rule-based vs. relation-based governance to help readers understand the differences in doing business in Asia vs. doing business in mature economiesOffers business insights based on the author s business experience in AsiaApproaches the topic from a comparative perspective"

Book Synopsis East Asia's Demand for Energy, Minerals and Food by : Kate Barclay
Download or read book East Asia's Demand for Energy, Minerals and Food written by Kate Barclay and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-05 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China Japan and South Korea’s international relations are shaped by the fact that all three countries are significant importers of resources. This book brings together work on specific aspects of the politics of resources for each of these countries, regionally and internationally. There are some similarities in the approaches taken by all these three. For example, their development assistance shares a focus on infrastructure building and reluctance to purposefully influence domestic politics. However, there are also significant differences due in large part to the individual nature of the states as international actors. China has significant domestic supplies of resources while Japan and Korea are net importers. China’s size also marks it out as different, as does its state socialist history and continuing authoritarian state. One of the key issues to understanding contemporary resource politics in Northeast Asia is that Western dominance of the world order is currently declining. In some cases Northeast Asian approaches to resources are seen as being mercantilist. In other cases Northeast Asian powers are seen as replacing Western powers in exploiting resource-rich developing countries. This book gives readers an informed view of this very important issue in contemporary international relations. This bookw as published as a special issue of Asian Studies Review.

Book Synopsis The Off-Shore Petroleum Resources of South-East Asia by : Corazón Morales Siddayao
Download or read book The Off-Shore Petroleum Resources of South-East Asia written by Corazón Morales Siddayao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: l INTEREST in the off-shore petroleum resources of South-East Asia was manifested in the 1960s when development in off-shore technol ogy allowed oil companies to search beyond prospective land areas. The dramatic increases in oil prices in the early 1970s but more particularly the events of 1973 and 1974, when world oil prices were quadrupled by the oil exporting nations and major supply cutbacks were experienced by certain developed nations, further heightened this interest. Cost/price relationships had not only improved and made off-shore oil in hitherto less attractive areas commercially prospective; nations that were net importers and whose international exchange reserves were strained by the high import costs of foreign oil also found it prudent to begin looking for indigenous resources and to encourage such search. The search for and discovery of petroleum in South-East Asia on the scale in which it has been conducted in the last ten years was new to the region. It was natural, therefore, for students of South-East Asia to raise questions about its progress, questions concerning in ternational relations, social impacts, and economic policy im plications. The purpose of this study is to try and answer the question: 'What are the potentials for conflicts or cooperation among nations arising from the search for petroleum resources in the seabeds of South-East Asia?' The problem of conflicts or cooperation among nations is a topic that has many facets and may involve a multitude of issues, for example, legal, economic, technical, security, social, etc.
Book Synopsis Overseas Energy Investment of Korea and Japan by : Seong-ik Oh
Download or read book Overseas Energy Investment of Korea and Japan written by Seong-ik Oh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the contraction of global energy supply brought on by geopolitical situation, this timely book addresses how resource-scarce developing countries respond to challenges in energy security. In particular, for countries underpinning efforts for an autonomous supply of energy, either oil/natural gas, nuclear power or renewable energy, this book revisits the evolution of overseas energy investment of two industrial giants in East Asia, Korea and Japan. It will provide meaningful lessons of how the state sets up policies and navigates political procedures for energy security. While a historical case study, it also offers its readers new insight into the international energy market by taking the stark déjà vu in its repetitive nature and putting it into context. The book provides an in-depth study highlighting the differences in political systems which led to contrasting outcomes. The one with a small number of veto players succeeded in establishing and expanding state-owned oil companies while producing policy inconsistency at the same time and vice versa. This comprehensive review of East Asian politics will add value to East Asian Studies by presenting a new approach through a universal theory rather than cultural uniqueness. As a readable case study on energy security, this book will be an essential reference for scholars, policymakers, industry insiders and citizens who are interested in how nations respond to historic challenges in a political and international context.
