Book excerpt: This memoir is devoted to the study of Krull dimensions of modules over (not necessarily commutative) rings with identity. Although not all modules have a Krull dimension, Noetherian modules always do. There has been much interest in the Krull dimension of noncommutative Noetherian rings and their modules. In this memoir, as well as providing an exposition of much of what is known about Krull dimension, we study those rings and modules, not necessarily Noetherian, which have a Krull dimension. The results we obtain show that merely having a Krull dimension is a stringent condition with many Noetherian-like consequences. We expect these results, and the methods involved, to have applications to Noetherian and related rings.

Book Synopsis Noncommutative Noetherian Rings by : John C. McConnell
Download or read book Noncommutative Noetherian Rings written by John C. McConnell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reprinted edition of a work that was considered the definitive account in the subject area upon its initial publication by J. Wiley & Sons in 1987. It presents, within a wider context, a comprehensive account of noncommutative Noetherian rings. The author covers the major developments from the 1950s, stemming from Goldie's theorem and onward, including applications to group rings, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, PI rings, differential operators, and localization theory. The book is not restricted to Noetherian rings, but discusses wider classes of rings where the methods apply more generally. In the current edition, some errors were corrected, a number of arguments have been expanded, and the references were brought up to date. This reprinted edition will continue to be a valuable and stimulating work for readers interested in ring theory and its applications to other areas of mathematics.
Book Synopsis Commutative Ring Theory by : H. Matsumura
Download or read book Commutative Ring Theory written by H. Matsumura and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989-05-25 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to being an interesting and profound subject in its own right, commutative ring theory is important as a foundation for algebraic geometry and complex analytical geometry. Matsumura covers the basic material, including dimension theory, depth, Cohen-Macaulay rings, Gorenstein rings, Krull rings and valuation rings. More advanced topics such as Ratliff's theorems on chains of prime ideals are also explored. The work is essentially self-contained, the only prerequisite being a sound knowledge of modern algebra, yet the reader is taken to the frontiers of the subject. Exercises are provided at the end of each section and solutions or hints to some of them are given at the end of the book.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir completes the series of papers beginning with [KL1,KL2], showing that, for a commutative noetherian ring $\Lambda$, either the category of $\Lambda$-modules of finite length has wild representation type or else we can describe the category of finitely generated $\Lambda$-modules, including their direct-sum relations and local-global relations. (There is a possible exception to our results, involving characteristic 2.)

This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commutative Ring Theory emerged as a distinct field of research in math ematics only at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is rooted in nine teenth century major works in Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry for which it provided a useful tool for proving results. From this humble origin, it flourished into a field of study in its own right of an astonishing richness and interest. Nowadays, one has to specialize in an area of this vast field in order to be able to master its wealth of results and come up with worthwhile contributions. One of the major areas of the field of Commutative Ring Theory is the study of non-Noetherian rings. The last ten years have seen a lively flurry of activity in this area, including: a large number of conferences and special sections at national and international meetings dedicated to presenting its results, an abundance of articles in scientific journals, and a substantial number of books capturing some of its topics. This rapid growth, and the occasion of the new Millennium, prompted us to embark on a project aimed at presenting an overview of the recent research in the area. With this in mind, we invited many of the most prominent researchers in Non-Noetherian Commutative Ring Theory to write expository articles representing the most recent topics of research in this area.
Book Synopsis Commutative Coherent Rings by : Sarah Glaz
Download or read book Commutative Coherent Rings written by Sarah Glaz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first extensive and systematic treatment of the theory of commutative coherent rings. It blends, and provides a link, between the two sometimes disjoint approaches available in the literature, the ring theoretic approach, and the homological algebra approach. The book covers most results in commutative coherent ring theory known to date, as well as a number of results never published before. Starting with elementary results, the book advances to topics such as: uniform coherence, regular rings, rings of small homological dimensions, polynomial and power series rings, group rings and symmetric algebra over coherent rings. The subject of coherence is brought to the frontiers of research, exposing the open problems in the field. Most topics are treated in their fully generality, deriving the results on coherent rings as conclusions of the general theory. Thus, the book develops many of the tools of modern research in commutative algebra with a variety of examples and counterexamples. Although the book is essentially self-contained, basic knowledge of commutative and homological algebra is recommended. It addresses graduate students and researchers.

This book was released on 2004-07-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to noncommutative noetherian rings is intended to be accessible to anyone with a basic background in abstract algebra. It can be used as a second-year graduate text, or as a self-contained reference. Extensive explanatory discussion is given, and exercises are integrated throughout. This edition incorporates substantial revisions, particularly in the first third of the book, where the presentation has been changed to increase accessibility and topicality. New material includes the basic types of quantum groups, which then serve as test cases for the theory developed.
Book Synopsis Commutative Algebra by : Marco Fontana
Download or read book Commutative Algebra written by Marco Fontana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-29 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Commutative algebra is a rapidly growing subject that is developing in many different directions. This volume presents several of the most recent results from various areas related to both Noetherian and non-Noetherian commutative algebra. This volume contains a collection of invited survey articles by some of the leading experts in the field. The authors of these chapters have been carefully selected for their important contributions to an area of commutative-algebraic research. Some topics presented in the volume include: generalizations of cyclic modules, zero divisor graphs, class semigroups, forcing algebras, syzygy bundles, tight closure, Gorenstein dimensions, tensor products of algebras over fields, as well as many others. This book is intended for researchers and graduate students interested in studying the many topics related to commutative algebra.

Download or read book Introduction To Commutative Algebra written by Michael F. Atiyah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2018. This book grew out of a course of lectures given to third year undergraduates at Oxford University and it has the modest aim of producing a rapid introduction to the subject. It is designed to be read by students who have had a first elementary course in general algebra. On the other hand, it is not intended as a substitute for the more voluminous tracts such as Zariski-Samuel or Bourbaki. We have concentrated on certain central topics, and large areas, such as field theory, are not touched. In content we cover rather more ground than Northcott and our treatment is substantially different in that, following the modern trend, we put more emphasis on modules and localization.
